Intellivisionaries Episode 17 Is Up!
jointfilms.com replied to nurmix's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Thanks dude. really am curious about origins of jungle theme for the games. my neighbors had them both (the sister was a few years younger than us, so they were meant for her) and I remember playing them at least once. always thought the graphics were pretty good. As a matter of fact, I may have mentioned this when I did my guest interview on your show, when I got Coleco's Donkey Kong and was so disappointed with how it looked I remember thinking "man, why didn't they just use the gorilla from Math Fun and it would've looked so much cooler." -

Paul it's your old bud Steve Herold. I'm about 40 minutes from being done with this episode. Great job by ya'll as usual. But I have two questions that if you address in the last 40 minted excuse me…. In your interview with Kimo Yap, unless I didn't hear it, did you ask him if the whole jungle motif for the game was his idea or did it come from Mattel or Children's Television Workshop? Also, this might be more of a gripe, but after hearing you guys mention if you own LF 1 & 2 it's essentially pointless to own Math Fun and Word Fun because everything that's on MF and WF are on the LF games. So why were they all included on the Flashback? Seems like a waste of space that could've been used for 1 or 2 other games if all you're doing is doubling up on the math and word games. -
Yeah I wrote a few comics for their last few issues before it turned into a Maxim ripoff and then ceased to be a publication. I have a ton. I just joined that Cracked group (or at least I think, it was the only Cracked group I saw on FB.) The first issue I bought was in, I guess, 1977 and was the issue with King Kong on cover where Sylvester is on top of his head fighting planes. I even have the full set of Fleer trading cards. (we should pick this congo up on that FB group)

finally got my overlays today (2/14.) I ordered them first thing on Dec 1st when they were announced. I never heard back from Intellivision when I sent them emails about the status. I hate to say it but it took me having to file a dispute with PayPal to get any response from Intellivision like others have had to. I filed my dispute on Jan 31st and later that day I suddenly got an email with tracking # from Intellivision. Then I waited and waited and every time I checked the tracking # it just said that the label had been printed out but had not been shipped. So I added a note to my PayPal dispute that it still hadn't shipped even though they had printed a label. And suddenly the next day I check the tracking # and for the first time I see activity that the package actually had been shipped that afternoon (2/10.) It sucks that it had to come to this. But I don't doubt for one second that if I hadn't sent the dispute to PayPal I'd still be waiting with no tracking# etc. Intellivision weren't ready for the demand. I only ordered one set but I'm sure some of the collectors out there ordered a handful of sets. I'm glad they made these available and I'm hoping the next time they decide to do something like this they'll have their system better in order. Far too many people have been left hanging.

I've sent three emails (maybe once a week) and have yet to hear back anything from Intellivision. I ordered mine Dec 1st. I've never received an email saying mine had shipped or any tracking number. It's frustrating, I guess, because: A) they don't seem to be responding to any email complaints/inquiries. B) people who ordered their set in last week or so are already getting them (I recall seeing on FB someone ordered on Jan 1 and received Jan 9.) I can wait but it'd be nice to just get some kind of response from them saying they shipped or are about to. I'll be honest I'm not a collector like a lot of people on this site. But Intellivision would have to be nuts to not think some of you collectors would be ordering like 10 sets of the overlays, etc (especially at that initial price) and the demand would be high. It seems to me they underestimated their fan base and weren't ready to handle this.

all this stuff i cool to look at. really brings me back.

what I don't understand about the whole licensing and home-brew issue is that the ColecoVision Flashback has Imagic games on it and either it or the Atari one has home-brew games on it. So why not the Intellivision having a few Imagic titles or home-brews? I for one would've loved having Christmas Carol on the Flashback. But hey beggars can't be choosers right? We're lucky to have it at all. I'm sure if a 2nd one is released we'll get a whole slew of games we're hoping for.

a clear blue cart for the Tron games would've been cool like the joystick in that first arcade game.

I joined this and the Intellivision Club. My memories of the Imagic Numb Thumb Club were the magazine was nice glossy mag (although I think I only remember ever getting two issues before I guess it folded.) Also the Membership card was a legit plastic credit card-like card. Felt cool having that in my velcro wallet when I was 11 or 12. Also you received your choice of a free poster. The posters were the box art of their games. I got Beauty and the Beast and remember having it hanging on my wall for a few years. I could've sworn I still had the membership card somewhere but right before I did an interview with Paul for The Intellivisionaries podcast I dug around trying to find it but wasn't able to. I still think it's buried somewhere…..

Intellivisionaries Episode 13 is now live!
jointfilms.com replied to IntyPod Burgertime's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
what's my point? really? Ok, let's go over this: you're listening to a long podcast. The hosts start talking about something that doesn't interest you. You fast forward through that until they stop talking about it. Then you continue listening to the part that does interest you. Problem solved. You're welcome in advance. -

Breaking news: Intellivision flashback coming to retail

My two nieces are visiting. I let them try the Intellivision Flashback. They're 10 and 7 years old. Figured they'd enjoy Shark Shark. Not so much. Snafu. Nah. What did they have a blast playing? Baseball. The older one won 25-18. Played all 9 innings and wanted to keep playing..... -

Yeah I definitely feel like the disc has more "give" from what I remember. But again I haven't touched an Intellivision in probably 30 years so there's no question my memory might be just off. Either way I was bound to need some time re-getting used to the controller (I never had any issues with it growing up.) My only problem I'm having getting back into the system is games like Space Armada and Astrosmash I feel like it's tough to really control your ship precisely. i.e. if you just wanna nudge your ship over to fire a target it's tough to do. I really don't remember it being this difficult. Anyway having a blast playing the Intellivision again. -

I thought same thing about the disc. Feels like its little too loose or something? Again I think the issue might be like you I haven't played this in 30 years and just need to get used to it again. I remember being pretty good at Space Hawk but today I was having a bitch trying to control the guy. -
The hunt for a new Flashback begins NOW
jointfilms.com replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
I found one on Saturday in Hazlet NJ. Someone here or on FB posted a photo a few weeks ago from that store and said they had them. I'm in town for the weekend so I made the drive over and sure enough there they were. Thought I'd have to beg at register for them to sell it to me but no problem. Cashier didn't say a word about it not for sale yet or anything. There were two more after I bought one. Can't get over how light it is. Funny playing it after 30 years. Some odd choices on which overlays are included. Not sure I needed the Buzz Bombers overlay. Hope they follow through with what they say in the manual and sell all of them online. And I haven't checked it yet but aren't Learning Fun I and Math Fun the same game? If so, what's reasoning for including both? Don't really get how they were able to get rights to Imagic and Atarisoft games for the a Coleco Flashback but not for Intellivision. They have all M Network stuff on Atari too. Really think they need to overhaul the Intellivision website. I could really use a nice way to flip through the manuals to remind how to play some of these games. The release of this seems like the perfect time for a huge reworking of their site. It seems so ancient. All in all, aside from the obvious MIA games, it's pretty cool. -

found the Intellivision Flashback on the shelves at a Toys R Us in Hazlet, NJ (someone posted either here or on FB a photo that the store had them.) Got mine, haven't had chance to play yet. They had 3 Intellivisions, 1 Colecovision, 1 Atari and 4 Segas. Really hoping they come through and sell the full overlay set online….. -

what happened to the Toys R Us pre-order page? I don't see the Intellivision Flashback listed there anymore. As a matter of fact, aside from ebay, I don't see it anywhere. Is it still set to be released Oct 1? I thought I saw some posts earlier that said it might be on sale Sept 22. Any news? -

Cool. Thanks Paul & Bill. That repurposed Plimpton ad on that website is pretty clever.
