Can you use the Atari 2600 converter on the Sears model? I remember that it required modifications on the model 1 units. The Intellivision II was designed to use the system changer. And does the Sylvania unit work with the system changer?

I'm in Dallas, so if you really, really want to drive for 3 hours just to pick up a power supply, let me know. I'll even throw in some duplicate carts.
-
Plus, the Intellivision II can't play Coleco games. Not exactly a big loss, not being able to play Intellivision Donkey Kong........
-
Probably not. It usually screws up for me with a cartridge, especially a cartridge with dirty contacts. If it's not because of the cartridge, then you really have a screwed up machine. Sorry, i'm stumped.
-
Actually, the cartridge port might be worn out. That's a common thing amongst used TI units. Clean the cartridge and cart slot. And put the cartridge in gently. If it's garbled, wiggle the cart around to try to get a better connection. I've had three or four TIs and they all have worn out cart slots, some more than others. Just another quirk of the TI.

Recommendations for picking up cheap GameCube titles?
SteveW replied to The Eidolon's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I've returned a couple of things to Fry's Electronics, i've never had any problems. I guess i'm lucky. There's three Fry's stores in the Dallas area. -
New name and look for "Pitfall Harry" (the game)
SteveW replied to Rhindle The Red's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure never felt like Pitfall to me either. I bought a copy for the Jaguar with high hopes, and after one day lost interest in it. I really wanted to play it long enough to unlock the original game, but couldn't muster enough enthusiasm to keep playing. Oh well. -

It's still too cartoonish. I'd like a game that wasn't so kid-oriented. Maybe that's why they decided to change the game? No make it a little less childish? -
Recommendations for picking up cheap GameCube titles?
SteveW replied to The Eidolon's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I've never seen good deals in pawn shops. You can find used games much cheaper at GameStop. I like Fry's Electronics. It's a small chain, not in a lot of cities, but they have great prices. They always have good prices. And try out the console games section of CompUSA, too. I've picked up several cheap games for the GC there. I've become a serious comparison shopper when it comes to GameCube games. I've only paid $50 for a GC game once. I've hunted down the best prices for everything else. -
I've only played the game for about five minutes, so I can't help. I found a website not too long ago of a group of guys who practically worship the original arcade game. They gather together and play gigantic tournaments. I wonder if they play the Lynx version too?
-
I was always disappointed with BattleWheels, but then i've only played it alone. I have three Lynx units and multiple copies of a few games, but not that one. I always heard fantastic things about the game, but alone it gets repetitive. Like WarBirds on a one-dimensional plane. At least with WarBirds, you can dive and climb, and hide in the clouds. Basically what i'm saying is that WarBirds is my favorite Lynx game, and in my mind it'll never be dethroned.

I bought an Alligator People years ago....... then I found out that the game I bought wasn't Alligator People, but Planet Of The Apes......

It's the best Star Raiders type game available on the VCS. It's got a nice amount of challenge, instead of just repetitively shooting ships that move at the same speed and angle. The ships in Planet Patrol dodged and weaved! And it had a nice starfield in the background, too. All around, a great game! Every once in a while, I could fry my old 6-switcher when I was playing Planet Patrol, and it made the game twice as hard. The enemy ships would be invisible until they were nearly on top of you. And your ship would take a lot more damage. I don't have my 6-switcher anymore, unfortunately, so I can't fry the game anymore.

How many of you use only 1970's - 80's era controllers?
SteveW replied to Adrian M's topic in Atari 2600
I tried using a Sega Genesis pad on my Atari 7800. It just felt....... wrong. I got used to playing 2600/7800 games with the control stick in my right hand and firing with my left thumb. Trying to do it any other way just felt unnatural. I guess it's good that I didn't get used to the Genny pad on my 7800, i've heard it can cause damage over time to it's control circuits. -
The first time I ever got nauseated from a game was some Space Harrier rip-off on the NES. The fast moving grid underneath my character really had me ill after a short while. I've only noticed it with a few games since. I just stop playing once the symptoms start affecting me.

Hey Mendon, just buy IS3 for the PlayStation from Telegames. It's only $14.99 on their web site. You don't need to go through eBay.
-
Crud. I wish I knew about some of those. I wouldn't buy anything off eBay, but i'd get the guy's phone number, meet him, and pay him cash for some games, because he lives 5 minutes away from me!
-
If he truly has "1000's of games", didn't it occur to him to actually photograph them? Maybe that's why he thinks that bundle is worth that much. Were there thousands of games even available on the Atari 8-bit line? Hey Susuwatari, nice avatar! Looks kind of familiar.......
-
I don't have anywhere close to a full collection, but I have the games that interest me. That's enough for me. Plus, I have my Intellicart, so I don't really need to hunt down any other games.

are you a monogamous collector?
SteveW replied to tyranthraxus's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Most of the time, I just stuck to Atari consoles. I used to pass up a lot of stuff I didn't have any interest in, like Colecovision, Odyssey2 , NES, SMS, and so on. Now I kick myself for not buying up all those games that Toys 'R Us had marked down to a couple bucks each in their videogame clearance racks in the late '80s, like their Vectrex games and Colecovision stuff. Nowadays, i'd kill to find those games and systems in the wild. But you can't find that kind of stuff in the wild anymore, because speculators buy up all this stuff when they find it and sell it for ridiculous amounts on eBay. It makes it hard for a true gamer to play these games. -
Even though I always wanted one since they had come out, I didn't get an Intellivision until around 1988, when I bought my Intellivision II from a co-worker. And more importantly, I got the mail order form from INTV. I ordered some replacement controllers and games. I just kept buying more and more games. I've built up a nice collection. But most of my collection was bought in the late '80s while the games were still available in stores. I think one of the things that knocks down the Intellivision's collectibility is that it was more widely available than a console like the Atari 5200, but has a much more limited library than the Atari 2600. It's not all that hard to find Inty games in the wild. A lot of collectors have probably already filled their collections by now, 20-something years later. And the fact that most Intellivisons don't have replaceable controllers, and they probably don't work all that well might contribute to the lack of people buying games.

I'm with you in your hatred of sports games. If you want to play football, go grab a ball, head out to a park with some friends, and play. It's a lot better for you to get out in sunshine and fresh air and get a little exersize than sitting on a couch in a dark room vegetating for hours and hours. I like games that let me do things that I couldn't normally do in real life. After driving through Dallas traffic, I used to play Carmageddon so I could smash cars up. It's all about escaping reality. Or after a bad night's work dealing with unreasonable people, I'd fire up Unreal Tournament and splatter some bots. I can't do it in real life, but I can do it in a game. But I can really grab a baseball bat and hit a ball. Or play street hockey, or football. So I don't see the point in sports titles when the real thing is easy to do. And not illegal, like smashing police cars with tanks and shooting people with rocket launchers.

I saw in a GameStop today that their N-Gage systems have been knocked down to $199 instead of what they were when they came out a couple of months ago, $299. That's not a sign of a healthy videogame system. It's probably only got a year or so left before it disappears for good. Unless they remodel the thing to look and work a little less idiotically. Most people don't want to look stupid talking sideways into a silver taco. Nokia should spend more than a half-hour designing a new version that you don't have to partially dismantle just to change a game. Or maybe put one of IBM's 1Gb MicroDrives into it to store MP3s and keep games on without taking the damn batteries out first.

Xbox Mame Controller and USB Atari Joystick? WOW!
SteveW replied to Mock's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I haven't gotten my Atari USB stick in yet. When it comes in, i'll have to use a program called USB Overdrive to configure it to the arrow keys/space bar. I've already got it installed, now i'm just waiting for delivery........ -
Robotech Collectors edition...
SteveW replied to Nintendo Penguin's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I bought it just for the extras. I didn't care for the game soundtrack, it sounded too synthetic. I was amazed how they managed to cram an XL T-shirt into a small disc. And the label on the back of the disc wasn't true, the wrinkles didn't come out after washing. That collector's edition won't be worth anything more than what you've paid for it. Those things used to be something like $80-90, but they've dropped slowly. A local Fry's Electronics had shelfloads of the regular game marked down to $9.99. There's too many copies of the regular game and collector's editions out there for them to be worth anything in the future.
