The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
Zookeeper replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Estate sale awhile back. Grabbed some boxed GB games for several bucks each. Penguin Wars, Hatris, Tailspin, and I can't recall the other and don't feel like going in there to refresh my memory. Not the usual common stuff. -
Saw this at a Walmart today. If the price goes down, I might pick it up as a fun decorative item. I think there was an '01' on the front of the package; not sure what the meaning was if any. First in a series perhaps? Or maybe I'm just imagining things; I should've taken it down to take a closer look.

Thrift Store has a Video Game Sale, Guess What Happens...

C'mon crash, hurry up and get here! -
What series do you want to see go All Star?
Zookeeper replied to KWKBOX's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Ok, it's not Nintendo, but Technosoft with Thunderforce and Herzog games. -
NX: If this is it, I'm actually happy.

I hope they go all-out on the Virtual Console or whatever they'll call it this time. And not do the 'pay extra to play a game you already bought on a different controller' stuff. -
It seems the bubble has finally arrived to the Lynx...
Zookeeper replied to Damon Plus's topic in Atari Lynx
I think there's a law of economics that every collecting hobby must eventually be ruined by people. -
Always done well with Best. Never used their repair service, but just placing orders has been fine.

edit- sorry, didn't notice the date of posts. Do you have a Telstar cart #4 (can't recall what games are on it)? That was a mail away and the toughest one to get ahold of. There was also a send-away (I think) AC adaptor. Or am I thinking of Select-a-Game on the latter?
-
Looks fun, I'll see if I can grab one for Christmas. It'd be cool if someday they could do some fancier online mini-NES that can download stuff from Virtual Console or something of the sort.

Do You Think A Price Crash Is Coming?
Zookeeper replied to Skippy B. Coyote's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Good question. The people who grew up with the 2600 or NES are in their 40s (or less), and there's plenty of time for them to remember their childhood before they die off. Are plenty of new people coming in to the hobby? That would make a difference in keeping prices silly. Insane stuff like those Cosmos prototypes may never collapse. You hear about stamp collecting dying off, but I would assume there's still stamps that are quite expensive. Have prices fallen on the whole in that hobby? Not sure; just thinking. Some high-grade vintage baseball cards are certainly going crazy right now. Then again, it could be apples and oranges and video game prices could behave differently. -
Haven't been buying much lately; don't have much money to throw around anyhow. Working on sports cards and semi-waiting on prices to return to sanity. If they ever do. If the money starts coming in and/or we magically return to pre-hype prices I guess I'd be more active. Did pick up some nice boxed GB games at an estate sale fairly recently.

At this point I guess I should bank on a crash, hoping things become sane again someday. Little point in going after the crazy expensive stuff, as I don't have much money anyhow. And if it doesn't happen, I guess there's nothing I can do.

I wonder if there will be a flipping/retail arbitrage bubble in general. Like said above, everybody's squeezing everyone else out, and these dumb 'Your game may be worth such-and-such dollars' stories aren't helping things. $1000 or something for a Sonic Master System because it has a barcode stuck on can't be sustainable. Or I hope...
-
Mostly crummy games at thrift stores it seems. I guess everyone's wise and dumps the good stuff online. I suppose this may be a mean thing to say, but I half wish the bubble would go pfft so I can just collect and enjoy myself. Seems like this happens to most collecting hobbies; everybody smells money, floods in and runs up the prices.

I recall seeing a Coke (or maybe it was Pepsi) machine with a built-in game many years ago. Haven't seen anything like that since, but apparently it's been done before.
