Could Road Rash (3DO) be ported to the Jaguar?
NeoGeoNinja replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Atari Jaguar
Well, if relating to the most obvious difference... All the player and CPU vehicles in NFS are Polygons vs RR's use of sprites (etc) for player and CPU based opponents/traffic/pedestrians etc. Perhaps we mean that? -
Dreamers' corner: Did Jaguar show full potential, or not?
NeoGeoNinja replied to Atlantis's topic in Atari Jaguar
This genre we're discussing. It's just called 2.5D, isn't it? Like Strider 2 and Klonoa on PS1? It's a shmup, but R-Type Delta was also 2.5D. Probably plenty of examples tbh, but can't think of many off hand right this moment. Anyway, best game to utlilise VladR's up and coming 2.5D game engine... Atomic Runner Chelnov 3D - C to fire left, B to jump, A to fire right. Continuously scrolling 3D so the background can just be loaded into memory and then dumped thereafter, like NFS/RRash. Literally, just a fun suggestion -
Clear cart shells now available for Songbird games
NeoGeoNinja replied to Songbird's topic in Atari Jaguar
FWI... not W... I actually prefer the older Protector label with the stuck on "SE". I'll be honest, the OCD in me finds the lack of rounded top edges on the label to be of... 'concern'. For some reason, out of all the carts available, I really dig SkyHammer in a clear cart the most. I think, because the game is Neo-Futuristic, as a game, it suits the clear cart more than the others. I already own the likes of Protector SE and SkyHammer (bought inadvertently from yourself Carl, via Nick at 16/32 at Blackpool's REPLAY in 2010) so have no need to replace them. However, should you ever elect to sell the carts and labels as 'clear cart upgrade packs' down the line, I'd definitely be interested. Self-defeating perhaps, as you're most probably (secretly?) relying on the insecure minded Jag obsessive on buying these as clear cart duplicates in addition to their existing versions in a black cart! Logically, something I cannot allow myself to do They do look nice though... -
Dreamers' corner: Did Jaguar show full potential, or not?
NeoGeoNinja replied to Atlantis's topic in Atari Jaguar
I've been trying to tell people this for years. More so... ...That 'gaming' has been an integral part of my daily life style for decades. To me, it is as natural to sit down and play Gunstar Heroes on the Megadrive or Resident Evil 4 on the GCN (etc, ad infinitum) as it is for others to sit and watch Television, a film or a book. And so on. As time moves forward, I believe eventually, it will become even more greatly accepted and seen as a standard form of front room entertainment alongside Movies and TV shows and so on. -
Dreamers' corner: Did Jaguar show full potential, or not?
NeoGeoNinja replied to Atlantis's topic in Atari Jaguar
My favourite game on the 3DO. 'Tis an excellent game and one that didn't fair too well in the porting process to PS1 & SAT. I used to love (the gimmick as to) how you could fly out of Earth's atmosphere in partially into space. It was very cool at the time. Not to mention, deformable terrain using weapons and having to physically dock into the mothership. Pretty advanced game at the time... -

Great post. Off too work so a quick and dirty reply to follow... The only high profile space shooters on PS1, from memory, were the Colony Wars series, by extension, Blast Radius and also Darklight Conflict. There's probably more, but no tin front of my PS1 games right now (I like those sorts of games). TOCA didn't come out on Saturn, but I KNOW you mean SEGA Touring Car PS1, pretty much, has the same amount of 2D shmups as the Saturn. But not a lot of people know this. We had an Arcade Perfect version of Outrun, in Japan, for the Saturn - with a 30fps & 60fps mode. Don't forget Rayman in the 2D dept. Also, Dragon (love it or loathe it) is much superior, graphically, to the SNES & MD versions. I know, because I own all 3 via RGB Gotta go... -
It's always worked for Apple...

Yeah. I actually thought they were still available from new actually (Ver3, or whatever they're called). Guess not. Still, not like production items have stopped themselves from being sold for ridiculous money to the ignorant masses on eBay, eh?!

Well, I implore you to directly compare Super Street Fighter 2 on SNES against Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo on 3DO. Although the parallax is lost on 3DO, the rest of the game is, I'd say, Arcade Perfect. At the time, it was a MASSIVE leap in the quality of SF2 at home. Having said that, the PCE port of SF2 CE was superior to the SNES/MD counterparts, but even so, SSF2T/X on 3DO was immense at the time. The animation and gameplay just destroyed the other versions. And I mean 'destroyed'. It's not until you actually sit down and play the 16-bit ports that you realise how cut down they were. Of course, at the time, the ports were so amazing, you didn't really notice at that age (i.e. pre-high school age, personally). Similarly, SShodown on 3DO killed the SNES port too. Even the MD port was better than the SNES, which was unusual. Although not as good as Capcom's Street Fighter port, CD's port of SS1 for 3DO was still really good. Just not as good as the Neo Geo or CD versions overall, but the best available thereafter.

Here's a general list of 3DO 2D titles that I can think of when looking over a general list of releases: Another World Ballz BattleChess Bust a Move Cannon Fodder Captain Quazar Casper Crayon Shin Chan Dino Park Tycoon Eye of Typhoon FIFA Flashback Gex The Horde Icebreaker The Incredible Machine Johnny Bazookatone Lemmings Lucienne's Quest Panzer General Phoenix 3 Primal Rage Rise of the Robots (Ugh!) Royal Pro Wrestling (!!!) SailorMoon Samurai Shodown Shadow: War of Succession (Ugh!!) Soccer Kid Star Control 2 Striker Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Syndicate Theme Park Trip'D Way of the Warrior (3D elements) Yu Yu Hakusho - No doubt there's more, but this is a basic overview - regardless of a couple of them being stinkers (ROTR, Shadow)

NEW Jaguar Cartridge available NOW! Including Ltd Edition
NeoGeoNinja replied to Gaztee's topic in Atari Jaguar
I thought as much. They're really nice, but the Jaguar artwork has character all of it's own too. But yeah... the DC artworks are super nice. I'll pick up the DC version from Hucast at some point. -

Based on the Dreamcast releases? Looks really nice/professional. I have to admit, although the current box art is bad, I actually like it in a so bad it's good way. -

The Official Jaguar Mantra of the modern era. *** Sig'd *** -
Problem is, if you 'draw the line' after the Telegames releases, you're going to miss out on Protector SE. Big mistake. But hey, at least Checkered Flag & Fight For Life will make the cut...

But... What if there were only 3x copies in the first run...? Just, what if...? Just...

Could Road Rash (3DO) be ported to the Jaguar?
NeoGeoNinja replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Atari Jaguar
Ironically, Total Eclipse falls into the same category as StarFox, Road Rash & NFS - the latter two, of which, used streaming techniques to achieve these graphical feats competently. By contrast, Battlemorph was a fully 3D title... -
Could Road Rash (3DO) be ported to the Jaguar?
NeoGeoNinja replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Atari Jaguar
Dr Typo needs to do a 'Tube : Ultra' and get the talents of OMF & Gaztee to bring the game out as an Official Cart release, just like Orion has done collaboratively, most recently. I'd buy that for a dollar "x" multiple "÷" conversion rate to £'s "+" shipping. Game deserves an 'official' release imo. -

NeoGeoNinja replied to Lost Dragon's topic in Atari Jaguar
Yeah. This is my understanding of this too. Mega Turrican was first on MD, then ported as T3 for Amiga. Shame 'Turrican' for MD was complete balls though. @Lost Dragon: Did you ever get around to Super Turrican 2? It was weird. Just didn't 'feel' like a Turrican game. Willing to bet it didn't start life as one. Being Factor 5, I'm almost willing to bet it started life as a Star Wars title for SNES and then, instead, released using the Turrican license. I can't prove it, but Super Turrican 2 has a very 'Super Star Wars' type vibe to it - even if Lucasarts handled all the SNES titles before Factor 5 did Rogue Squadron series. Shame about Factor 5 btw. They were a very talented little outfit. Oh... NGDEVTEAM really NEED to make a Gunlord 2 btw! -

NeoGeoNinja replied to Lost Dragon's topic in Atari Jaguar
Presumably, Turrican would have been based on MEGA Turrican - the best Turrican, to date, ever. I had Super Turrican and Super Turrican 2 for SNES, but they just weren't as good... -
I've said it elsewhere on this forum, some time before: Taken in 2015, at 'face value', there are PLENTY of fun Jaguar gaming experiences to be had on varying levels - if it's for the insane challenge of Zero 5... the cheesy 90's stench of Mortal Kombat-alike 'Kasumi Ninja'... the impressive scale of Iron Soldier... or the crazy individuality of AOTMPenguins... etc etc, there really is plenty to be happy with on the Jaguar. For me, there's LITTLE on the system NOT worth bothering with. Yes - when compared back in 94 - 96 against Saturn & PS1, the Jaguar paled when directly compared and, that STILL holds relevance, historically speaking. However, those historic facts do little to affect my thorough enjoyment of the Jaguar and my Jag games today! If anything, time itself has actually been kinder to the Jag, helping fade away the scars and just leave what's important: solid, fun, gaming. As is true with ANY other console, just avoid the stinkers and embroil yourself with the good stuff. Plenty of fun, unique gaming experiences to be had here...

Is it possible to actually become good at Checkered Flag?
NeoGeoNinja replied to sirlynxalot's topic in Atari Jaguar
Now then (take note... Gunstar!), and I've gone on record saying this elsewhere on AA before now; Club Drive can be engaging fun in 2P mode. I introduced a friend to 2P Powerball months ago, and we spent a good hour or two playing it. Tag is also decent but, for me, the most fun is with the Powerball mode. The desperation to be first to the Powerball, apparently, can be quite intense. That moment when you both dash madly to get the ball ahead; and there can be only one! As soon as it's collected, the map displays the next Powerball directly BEHIND you both?! You both reverse towards the flashing icon rabidly but... what's this? The flashing icon (i.e. Powerball) is actually up that narrow ramp and on the table surface DIRECTLY above you both?! Anyone who's played Powerball properly KNOWS that scenario FYI... no such 'real' fun to be had with Checkered Flag -
LOL. Here he is, everyone's favourite Xenophobic ex-Jag owner...

Pretty circular argument...

Hopefully, somewhere... someone here owns this ^
