You can drop off the solar sail whenever you like. Getting on it is difficult though. -

If you are planing to go full 6502 assembly, it is best to start with the tutorials by Spiceware and Andrew Davie. https://www.randomterrain.com/atari-2600-memories-tutorial-andrew-davie-01.html Getting a complicated display on screen (display kernel) might be a very difficult. I found it difficult and switched to bBasic and the DPC+ kernel. The DPC+ kernel allows for one sprite and up to 9 virtual sprite, each that can change color each scanline, a playfield that can have a maximum resolution of 32x44 “pixels,” and it handles the display kernel for you (you only need call drawscreen), and has 7 banks with 4K ROM available (huge compared to a stock 4K non-bankswitched cartridge. I found these code snippets helpful, as well as the bBasic commands document on RandomTerrain https://www.randomterrain.com/atari-2600-memories-batari-basic-commands.html In either case, work on getting a stable display working. Slowly add elements, and make sure everyone still works in Stella after every addition (turn on Developer mode to catch common mistakes).

“Raising awareness” is 501(c)(4) is lawyer speak that allows you to spend non-profit social-welfare funds to promote the non-profit itself. There are many non-profit “charitable” organizations whose sole purpose is to raise awareness of their organization, just to stay in business. These charities regularly spend large percentages of their yearly operating expenses (70%-85%) on keeping their charity alive rather than going to whatever their cause is.

It is also important to note that you are completely safe while in the beam or sliding down the beam. If you pay attention to the levels above, you can always drop down to the lower level just as you cross the middle (to reset the elevators) so that you can adjust the timing to safely move up. -

Closest thing to Xevious until recently. 27:00 mark. -
Games based on movie licenses are notoriously bad, but a lot of the games on this list aren't half bad. Lucasarts always did wonderful flight simulators based on the SW universe. I wonder what was the start of that bad reputation? LJN games in the NES era? Horrible C64 or other 8bit games?

CapitanClassic, the picture is upside down not because I made a mistake when taking the picture, but because I found it appropriate as Espial is an upside down vertical shooter. 😉 36025 45300 - Rescue Terra I 1725 4582- Condor Attack 15890 - Espial -
Is this just an excuse to watch the Porky’s shower scene? 😃

Since a lot (all) of those read the B/W and Difficulty Switches during the main game loop, what happens if someone sets the values in the menu but changes them mid-game? Does it act as a toggle, or does it instantly read the current position and overwrite the menu setting.

Adventure did very well. It is usually listed as selling over 1 million copies, although I don’t know if accurate sales figures exist. (For reference, the best selling VCS game is Pac-Man at 7 million copies). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_Atari_2600_video_games As for why more ports don’t exist, it is probably that Adventure has a unique graphical representation that was required by the VCS hardware. If you ported the game and kept the similar graphical limitations it would look pretty unimpressive. If you enhanced the graphics, would you know that the game was Adventure? https://www.giantbomb.com/adventure/3030-8851/similar-games/

It was ported to the Atari 800 and released under the APX (Atari Program Exchange) that Atari used to publish independent developer’s games for Atari home computers https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galahad_and_the_Holy_Grail

I doubt many homebrew authors register their creative works with the Copyright Office, but they are copyrighted the moment they are created. The benefits of registration are additional statutory damages and attorney’s fees. https://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ04.pdf What would be interesting to me is what would happen if a homebrew author sued a company for copyright infringement, but the homebrew was a derivative work. (I doubt this has ever happened, or would eve happen since the homebrew market is not very lucrative) Use of the Copyright Symbol In copyright law, creative works that are copyrighted are given copyright protection. Permissions to use the copyrighted work belong to the owner. Other people cannot reproduce or sell the copyrighted work without permission of the owner. The copyright symbol © is used to indicate clearly that the work is protected by copyright. It often appears in a phrase like “Copyright © 2019 The New York Times Company”. This copyright notice immediately identifies the copyright owner and the year of first publication. Why is this important? Let’s say copyright infringement occurs, and the copyright owner takes the infringer to court. If the work had a clear notice, including the copyright symbol ©, the court will dismiss the defendant’s claim that he or she didn’t realize the work was protected. “The copyright symbol was right there – of course it was copyrighted!” In the United States, before March 1, 1989, the copyright notice was actually required to copyright a work! After 1989, the United States joined the Berne Convention, which removed this requirement. Nowadays, simply creating a work automatically copyrights it, which is why you don’t see many online publishers like blgos show the copyright symbol in their text.

GONE: VHS Video Cassette Stickers and More

I don’t think we even used them back in the day (at least the letters/numbers). Eventually we just wrote over the same label multiple times with pencil first, then pen, then permanent marker. Eventually the label became an unreadable mess. Now I will never be able to find my Disney Sunday special, “The Scarlet Pimpernel.” It was fun to see these again. -
I think these three are the best. They can either be read as “Bitchess”, as in this cart bitches at you, or as “BitChess,” as this cart is an 8-bit chess program. i personally prefer the last/scanlines. Not sure if a similar font has been used in a VCS game before. The first one is the least readable , but has an interesting futuristic style. The middle is reminiscent of some computer font I have seen before but just cannot place it. edit: Data 70 for 2nd example? https://www.linotype.com/314/data-70-family.html

I just bought a used Atari 2600 system. It only came with one game, so I cannot troubleshoot the game itself being defective. I also cannot seem to find a relevant thread that has the same issues. I have cleaned all the contacts and switching the power on normally results in a diagonal white line that scrolls across the screen. Every once and a while I get colored bars (assuming something altered PF0-PF2 or the player sprites.) Sometimes I get a blank black screen, so it is sending a signal to the TV. Very rarely do I get a screen that could almost look like Combat playfield (but it definitely isn’t). Also, should Combat be missing a trace on the front (Pin 8/Pin 5? Or maybe the backside is pins 1-12, so pin17/pin20). What is the next thing to troubleshoot with these symptoms? Do I have a bad TIA or RIOT? Do I need to do a recap sooner rather than later to prevent any exploding capacitors?

Does it take a rocket scientist to use CDFJ, or will mere mortals be able to use it to create Atari VCS games? You said in a previous interview that Medieval Mayhem was your first VCS homebrew. Had you created games on other systems or hacked/ported games previously? What is your background in programming? (Did you start long ago with Basic on any old 8-bit micros, or go straight into 6502 assembly? What is the next big game you are working on? You previously mentioned converting some of your older games from DPC+ to CDFJ. Are those games on Melody boards, and if so. does Albert do free updates? (Minus buyer pays the shipping?) Are you doing any more presentations (maybe not with Covid-19), and will you be updating your presentation for making Atari games with the Collect 3 tutorial. Do you think new developers should start with assembly and Collect 2K, or CDFJ/C++ and Collect 3?

Season 10 ~ Week 13 ~ Paper Medal Pick!
CapitanClassic replied to Vocelli's topic in 2600 High Score Club
I had the pleasure to play against you during my first High Score Club, new Season 3. You are an excellent competitor, dominating the aforementioned Stampede, and also have impressive Robot Tank, Strategy X, and Dolphin scores. I still have the spreadsheet from HSC:S3 and you continually placed in the top half each week (finishing in the top 8 for the season). Your participation in the HSC will be missed. 😢👾🐃🐂🦈 -
