Ouch. -
Heya, Love my Harmony cart. Only used it a few times. I recently got back from a week long vacation fired up my 2600 and my harmony cart now only shows a black screen. Before I left for vacation I had played some games from it fine. Left it plugged in the entire time I was gone. Came back. Black screen. I tried a regular game in the same Atari. Pitfall II works just fine. I tried cleaning the harmony cart as described in the manual. It was a little dirty. But cleaning the contacts has not helped. I also tried reflashing it on my pc via the micro usb. (1.05) My pc detects it and connects to it just fine. reflashing however did not get me past the black screen. I verified the SD card I am using still seems good (my pc can read/write to it just fine.) I am trying another sd card right now. Anything else I can try?

I don't pay too much attention to clear rate. Without being able to see play through it's pretty useless. A lot of my levels have low completion rates but I know they are not hard by any means. My only level that has a clear rate over 90% is one where I put the flag pole right next to the start point. -

Ya know... If the auto tune the news guys got their hands on this... The RVGS folks could probably raise their 2 million with the resultant iTunes single. That said, I honestly feel bad now for John. Videos like the one above are an introverts worst nightmare. -

I know doing that bit on the show was borderline trolling. (For folks that don't want to watch the whole thing it's at 12:50 in my video) But I thought they seriously needed to see how ridiculous their prototype demonstration video looks to those of us outside of their project. Anyone can stuff boards under a case and wave a window on a screen with a mouse. Took me all of 5 minutes to slap together pre-show. Show me a ColecoVision game or Gunlord running from a cart and maybe I'll say "shut up and take my money." -

Really wasn't happy with how blah my Blaster Master level was. So I took a page from snakeboy's playbook and kept it faithful while making it my own. I'm much happier with the new version. 9381-0000-0083-20B8 -

I gotcha. It was more of a nit pick than a criticism. I thought you captured the Donkey Kong theme very well while making it your own at the same time. -

For those coming in late and having trouble keeping up with this forum thread I have a second video summing up the latest developments and attempting to show the RVGS folks the communities point of view without coming off as trolling or beating a dead horse. -

Something else I wondered about was whether or not their platform would support flash carts like the Harmony and Everdrives. As a developer it'd seem like a very desirable feature and feasible if you were reading the carts like the original systems and executing the code using specialized FPGA cores. But if they went the arm/emulation route it'd be more like the Retron 5 right? Dump contents and emulate. So no flash card support. -

True leaders make public apologies when there was public defamation. You don't make right in private (exclusively) that which was a public wrong. At least that's the way I've always rolled. I know this is the age of "never apologize. Never show signs of weakness." But I think it's also what's making this the age of "Be bold and don't worry about the consequences. No one can hold you accountable." It's partly about respect and partly about being appropriately humble. -
We all make mistakes. But not all of us own up to it. Don't beat yourself up too much. Just learn from it play some Atari and move forward.

Very big of you bro! Seriously! +10 respect.

It wasn't clear to me at the time of purchase that this was the case. The seller told me it worked like the Wii. Before the WiiU arrived I knew nothing of Nintendo network ids. The content didn't work that way on the original Wii. I had no reason not to trust the seller as they were in good standing here on AA and had been an active member for over 5 years. Once the WiiU arrived and I created my own account, then I realized the problem and informed the seller. The seller never agreed with my assessment and basically treated me like I was an idiot. I'm over it now. But just thought I should warn others.

Fair question. One I think Mike is likely pondering himself. In that vein I'll answer. Things were said at and about the very community he hopes to market a future product to. Kevtris is not some random dude. He's a homebrewer and hardware hacker himself. I own a USB copy NES he designed! It's worked flawlessly the entire time I've had it. I played his ColecoVision game "Kevtris" just yesterday. Would love to have that on a cart. He's one of the very people these consoles are meant to inspire and empower. He voiced some concerns (in a pretty open, well articulated, and non trolling fashion) and they gave him the boot. Publicly. Pat is not some random YouTube commenter. He's been around and part of the online retro game scene for over a decade. If they aren't going to respect guys like that we'd be fools to believe they'll respect the rest of us. At this point they need to double down on humility. They need to earn our trust back. Best way to do that? Kill us with kindness and respect. Yes, even if they think we don't deserve it. The trolls will keep trolling but it will be easier to spot them among the rest of the people just wanting clarity. They should not be feeding the trolls or becoming trolls themselves. Not if they want to be viewed as a legitimate enterprise. -

Just made a short Blaster Master inspired level. 5FB7-0000-0082-0090 I'm not completely happy with it so gimme some feedback folks and I'll work it into v2. Also played some more levels from this topic. Your Donkey Kong levels are pretty good. My only (constructive) feedback is that I think the ass end of pipes should always be covered by something. Makes it look more legit. I'd recommend shortening those pipes by one block then moving them down and putting blocks or ground to cover the ass ends. That said, truly inspired level designs man! -

I didn't pretend to speak as anybody. I clearly stated I am not associated with them. Like you they probably don't feel any apology is necessary. The purpose of my post was to show them the apology myself and other community members feel is due and why. In effect I wrote the apology I want to hear and gave them license to use it if they choose. -

Since they are in listening mode now I thought I would help them out by writing their community apology for them. This is not an official statement from the RVGS team (but in my opinion something like it should be). Here's the statement I think needs to be publicly delivered as a first important step in making things right with the world again. If they wish to use it in whole or in part they may freely do so. --------- RVGS Copy-Paste BEGIN HERE ---------- Folks, a lot has happened in just one week. All we ever really wanted was to make a new old school console. Founded on the same core principles as a lot of the old systems you already love. We've since learned what seems like a simple idea is actually quite complicated. But it's not impossible. It requires careful planning, laser focus, and the proper mix of talented individuals. We honestly thought we had all that. Clearly, we didn't. While we take some time to reflect on the road that got us here I want to also make a few things right. I apologize to the retro community for overhyping this project early on. I was just trying to give it the momentum I thought it needed to push through to completion. I want to apologize to Kevtris. Your public forum comments caught us totally off guard. In hindsight we should have included you more and treated you more like a key partner and less like an interchangeable vendor. I want to apologize to Pat, Ian, and the other media outlets I criticized simply because they dared to point out our vision for the product didn't quite match up to the resources and information that we ourselves were willing to put forth to back up our claims. It was hard to hear after all the time and energy we've sank into the project to date. We've learned a lot. Mostly that we need a bit more humility and proof than "trust us" and possibilities. Especially if we're asking you the community to believe in our project enough to front load the cost and risk of making them a reality. I sincerely hope to address you all again in the future with happier news and a functional prototype that shows you our vision in action and sparks your own imagination to wonder at the other possibilities. --------- RVGS Copy-Paste END HERE ---------- -
