The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

If you get Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for PS3 or Xbox 360 that actually has a couple of the good exclusive ones (Golden Axe Warrior. Phantasy Star.) Most Master System games were not exclusive. For most of the library you could find the same game on game gear. Or a better version of the same game on Genesis. -

Yeah, usually I'm the guy that shows up at a yard sale promptly at starting time only to learn 30 minutes earlier a reseller has swooped in and bought all $500 worth of their wii/ps3/whatever stuff for $20. But today "Good fortune smiles upon thee..." The Savers here in CA is usually good for some 29 cent gaming magazines and the occasional $8 xbox (original). It's the same place I got those two Cobra light guns for $8. -

Speaking of a dollar each... Snagged these today at the local Savers for $1 each. All complete. As I was leaving another guy came into the store went straight for the shelf I'd just taken them from. As he left dejected he saw the whole lot in my arms and wailed "Nooooooooooooo!" We talked for a bit in the parking lot. I showed him what the titles were and assured him I was a fellow gamer/collector not a reseller. That seemed to soften the blow. After I got home I checked the going prices for these games complete on eBay (just curious, I only dabble in SMS collecting). $204. Couldn't price Zillion cause there isn't a complete one with a BIN price. Best of the bunch seems to be Galaxy Force. Can't wait to fire it up on my Retron 5. To date this and the free ColecoVision I got CIB are my best thrift pickups of all time. -

ColecoVision 1.2 - replacement PCB, added features
dashv replied to 5-11under's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
My dream is a board that simply lets me play a majority of my games again without performing surgery on my ColecoVision first. Seriously, I'd love a perfect uber upgrade that's %100 compatible some day. But before that, I just want to play Lady Bug, Donkey Kong, and Pitfall. I can live without a steering wheel. I can play my 2600 games in any one of my 3 Ataris. And I can live with RF or composite video. -

I have the loose (legit) discs for 3DO Night Trap in a custom DVD Case with Custom Artwork. I know the game is pretty easy to play. But the curious collector/gaming historian in me would like to print out the manual for me to paw through. I tried replacementdocs http://www.replacementdocs.com/download.php?list.29 and archive.org https://archive.org/details/3domanuals Neither have it. Anyone here got it that would be willing to hook a 3DO brother up with some scans?

You gave him a helluva deal. The eBay prices were crazy for a while but they seem to be coming back down to earth now.

Welcome!

Totally agree. I am a new 3DO owner but so far I'm loving it! Night Trap on the 3DO is an amazing game for its time. Sewer Shark is going to take few more plays for me to get the hang of. Had lots of fun playing through Demolition Man even with the bad fight stages. Looking forward to playing Twisted, the Need for Speed, GEX, and Daedalus encounter.

I bet for the low low price of $75 he does! If you don't like it then don't buy stuff from him in the free thread! -
Will 'Last Gen' Console Peripherals (& Games) Price Drop?
dashv replied to Metal Ghost's topic in Modern Console Discussion
In general though the consoles themselves and first party controllers pretty much held their value. Most stores sold off their hardware stock at retail prices with maybe $10 leeway. While PSP games plummeted in price the handheld itself held it's value until none were left on store shelves. I would expect the same to happen for the 360 and PS3 consoles. They'll sell off at retail price or really close to it and simply not be restocked. -
The agony of defeat, or something that feels a lot like it.
dashv replied to fujidude's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Far from alone I've done this before with code but I can top ya. Four years ago I taught my kid how to film and edit his own lego video. I even decided to record the whole editing session. At least I thought I was recording. The wonder and excitement in my sons face as he cut together video and added sound effect and music was awesome. Then I went to dump the footage... Aparently I had bumped record before I intended so my recording was not the unusable moments. It was the boring crap before and after because when I was hitting "record" it was really stopping. And when I was hitting "stop" it was recording. I really hate these cameras where stop and record are the same button. The reason I say this tops times I've deleted code is because I am capable of writing it over and typically it's better than my earlier versions. In this case I'll never capture that genuine awe, wonder, and excitement of him piecing together his first project and learning the tools ever again. :/ They say that "Pain is temporarily, film is forever." I'd like to add "Pain over lost film is also forever." Hang in there man. We've all done it. If you have the space save a second copy every 5 minutes. -

Not gonna lie. Only got it to display it. That and I am hoping they hit their numbers so we see a version 2.

Yeah, I went through the process last month. Didn't bother with online. Went straight for the 1-800 number. They did a console swap. Which I was hoping would not happen since I had a lot of stuff that was not replaceable (Obviously save games. But also other stuff like miis for pets that have passed away). But as I said the console they sent me back is like new and the one I sent in had definitely seen better days. They also activated the purchases I made on the old console so I could re-download them on the new console. According to the person I spoke to on the phone they still do repair and replacement for consoles going as far back as N64. That's quite impressive.

As a heads up Nintendo has the returns thing down to a science. Call the number on the bottom of the console. They give you a ticket # and where to mail it in. Within 2-3 weeks you have a like new console. Just recently did this with an out of warranty Wii I had that died (after 6 solid years of service). It was very painless. I'm sure it's even quicker/easier for a system still under warranty. While we are on the subject. Register your console and they extend your warranty even further. All this said. I also bought my WiiU a couple months ago from JohnnyBlaze here on VGCollect. It was supposed to be a Christmas present this year. But after I opened it up to test it. I lost all will power to wait for it until then. Instead we packed up all the extra games it came with and opened those on Christmas.

I agree. MK 1 on game boy is an abomination. Even if it is the only version of MK 1 released that let you play as Goro. MK II for game boy was surprisingly good for what it was!

This month I just gave up and got a Turbo Everdrive.

If your still looking for Arcadia games. I don't have a console but I do have 8 CIB games available for trade. I'm just looking to make back what I paid rescuing them from Goodwill.
