  1. Useful controllers? Can they be used on a real intellivision?
  2. Alright guys for $20 I'll bite. Just went halfsies with MagnaFarce since if you buy 2 shipping is free. Came to $43 after tax for two of em. Not a bad deal at all. Based on the feedback here I'll probably just take it out to test it then put it back in the package.
  3. sorry for resurrecting an old thread. But I know you are still active here. Was there any further progress on save states? Does my current Encore perhaps already support this? I checked the manual but saw no mention of save states.
  4. Mega Force! Nailed it! Thank you!
  5. Glad this got necro'd. I just read through the whole post. Gonna grab the final version and check this out on my harmony! I Googled this and searched the forums but came back with nothing. Are you pulling our third leg?
  6. Not my turn I know but this one's been bugging me for a year because it was one of my favorites on my 2600 as a kid and I can't remember the name to go out and get it now. 1) Side scrolling shooter 2) Not Defender or Defender 2 3) The city at the end looks like a palace and if you destroy it the game ends
  7. Yes! And don't forget Tiger Woods (Masters), the Trauma Center games by Atlus, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Xenoblade, Resident Evil 4, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, and Bully: Scholarship Edition. Even if you just get a WiiU to go through the back catalog of Wii games it's worth it.
  8. *disclaimer, I'm working on my own review videos to be launched soon* The only reviews that urk me are ones where: * The person doesn't actually give a review they just randomly spout random stuff about the game * They use the same 30 seconds of game footage looped over and over for 5 minute video. * The person is clearly just doing it for the views vs doing it for the love of it. * The person thinks making a funny video means saying completely stupid, and factually inaccurate things, while swearing up a storm. I like video walkthroughs sometimes when I need to know how to find something. Like some of the harder to find blast shards in infamous for example. Screenshots don't always cut it. I also don't mind video reviews that are true reviews and genuinely entertaining. Play throughs are okay but I am sometimes worried it will spoil the game for me.
  9. This is really the the kicker for me too. Right now the only games that interest me at all are upgrades of games I already have on PS3.
  10. And it has arrived! 2600 home brew here I come!
  11. Is there a list somewhere off all the homebrews that have been publicly released? I'll try finding these 2 and that new pac man that's being worked on!
  12. Finally scrounged up the money for a Harmony Encore! Can't wait until it arrives so I can try out all the homebrew and attempt to make my own in batari basic.
  13. I never could beat Donkey Kong Jr. Math.
  14. I've read this thread from top to bottom and this comment here I can relate to 100%. I know I rag on modern game consoles a lot. For a lot of the reasons Keetah mentioned DRM, etc. But the reality is each generation has it's Diamonds and Reindeer Gems (no seriously, it's a thing. Google it). I actually enjoyed the recent Tomb Raider reboot a lot. Yeah it was go from A - B. But so were the originals (I have every single Tomb Raider game ever released and have beaten most of them). Yeah they went over the top with their cinematic camera style but I'll take that over how I have to fight the camera in all the originals or take blind leaps of faith because I can't see what's in front of me. To me there is also more replay value in the newest one because completing all challenges 100% takes exploring each area inside and out. I was quite surprised at how many entire sections of each area I completely missed during my first play through. I think what's changed with last gen (PS3 and 360) and present is the DLC... So now the game could suck or rock... and the DLC could suck or rock. As a consequence I love and hate the stuff. Games like Burnout Paradise made it affordable, worthwhile, and awesome. Games that have become old like Scott Pilgrim vs the World get a second life with the release of things like online cooperative multiplayer! Then there are games like DOA that are selling what amounts to $400 worth of "virtual panties" while the core game itself remained so broken they could only fix it by releasing a new game (DOA 5 Ultimate). And lets not leave out games like Destiny where many folks bought it for the game they think and hope it will become once enough DLC has been released for it. I don't have a PS4 or Xbone yet. But I do own a WiiU. I am loving the hell out of New Super Mario Bros U and catching up on my backlog of Wii titles. I also have a few WiiU games set aside for Christmas Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, and a couple more. My Retron 5 gets regular use for all my classic gaming needs. Even my 36 inch CRT TV is seeing nes Duck Hunt, psx Area 51, and Who Shot Johnny Rock CDi action. With all the retro gaming I've been doing lately I thought I was becoming a modern day gaming hater. Doing some more reflection I think I'm just looking for a well rounded gaming experience. There is much to appreciate in the old, the new, and the evolution from old to new. Last point. Tutorials that make me want to drive a nail though my skull are certainly more prevalent in current gen but you can find offenders as far back as PS2 (.Hack I am looking at you). I sat through at least half an hour if not 45 minutes worth of tutorial picking up the game from the beginning.
  15. San Jose! It's actually a place MagnaFarce pointed out to me. It's right down the road from where I live. Impossible for me to avoid the urge to stop in and see what's there! I'm there at least twice a week.
  16. If you need any help nursing them back to health let me know. I'm on a roll with repairing old systems this year.
  17. Great topic. Emulation all the way? Not me. For many of the reasons mentioned by stardust4ever and many of the others above. Some things I want to play I can only experience right now via emulation. Arcadia-2001 3DO Sega CD (via my XBox) Until I happen upon sane deals for the above in good working condition. Emulation is the best I got. Other things I can only experience at all through the real hardware. Phillips CDi (there are 2 emus but they are still quite primitive in what's actually supported) People give this system a lot of flak but I'm enjoying my experience with it so far. I'm also really enjoying hybrid approaches like what's offered by the Retron 5. I can play my Mega Man cartridge using my NES controller but have all the benefits of an emulator. For playing my games on the go I tend to go back and forth between my PSP with emus and a Retro Duo Portable V2 with real carts. It depends on how much stuff I want to carry around with me. I can tell you though. Being out in public gaming on a PSP no one notices or cares. Sit on a park bench playing Star Fox or Super Mario/Duck Hunt from the Cart on an RDP and people will come right up to you and start up a conversation. The hardware garners respect. A pile of roms running on commodity computers/cell phones... not so much.
  18. I checked back in. He doesn't have the power adapter for it. He offered to sell it to me for $10 but I declined. I'd rather not spend $14 on a power brick only to learn the console itself doesn't work. No 7800's have been on my local craigslist in the past several months. Ebay looks like my only option at the moment for something known to be working.
  19. Now playing. Dead or Alive Ultimate. By playing of course I mean I am waiting for my disc based game to finish downloading and installing it's 506mb update after which I will either be able to play or need to wait for another update to install... The suspense is like a game in itself!
  20. I never knew they existed until I saw them in a bag on the shelf. This thift store is awesome. I can usually pick up 29 cent game informer mags and $5 (working) xbox consoles. I bought a $13 36 inch CRT there several months ago specifically for light gun games. Was excited to see my NES zapper work perfectly but dissappointed my Konami and Nyko Justifiers didn't work too well. Both Cobra's needed calibration but now they are insanely accurate!
  21. It's ok Bill. I was just making a joke. I have no intention of waxing poetic about drm, pay-per-play, etc. Didn't you see Batman Dark Night Rises?
  22. *said as if talking through a mask* Download all system updates and purchase an online pass. Then, you have my permission to play...
  23. Lucked out at the local thrift store again: One is a standard Cobra PS1&2 & Sega Saturn compatible light gun. The other is the mother of all PS1&2 light guns. The Super Cobra. Auto reload, force feedback, guncon and justifier modes. This puppy works with EVERY PS1&2 light gun game ever released. Both are super accurate once calibrated. The guns even have their own game independent calibration capabilities and the lights on the side of the gun light up when you fire them. I got these together for... $8 total in like new condition.
