Exactly!!  Me & my dad used to play Intellivision Baseball, Hockey & Football all the time.  There isn't a single modern sports game on any system that he'll play with me anymore because the controllers are all too complex (yes... including the Switch!  I tried.)   :)

We are taking the old approach to all of our sports games.  The more simple and fun... the better!

We still have huge Intellivision NHL Hockey battles to this day.  Don't care at all about the graphics.  Epic gameplay and of course... that TRIPPING sound!!   :)

Yes! This is what it's all about! I have similar experiences.

  2. I'll add to the conversation and list some games not mentioned I think should be on the Amico:

Space Battle - I'm sure this could be re-imagined and improved upon.  This is fun game as is!

Tron - If Tommy can get the license from Disney, I would love to see a port of the arcade game that has not appeared on any home console (as far as I know - and speaking of firsts)!

Beamrider - IMO this was the best Activision game on the Intellivision.  If Tommy can get the license from Activision, this would be a blast (pun intended)!

Space Spartans - This was another awesome game for the Intellivision.  Maybe they can do a re-imagined version?

Sports Games - This was Intellivision's bread & butter back in the day.  Release them with a serious overhaul in computer AI for one player games and these could make the system's one player options even better!

Minotaur - AKA Treasure of Tarmin.  This could also be a re-imagined game.  It would make sense as they plan doing Crown of Kings.

Burnin' Rubber - AKA Bump N Jump.  Fun arcade game that could be re-imagined for co-op play? May need a license to put this on?

This is just my list of older games.  Anyone have others in mind?

What I don't understand is why you guys are so focused on a child friendly angle that seems more extreme than Nintendo was back in the 90s.  I mean its one thing to leave out M rated games, but T rated games too?  That is so limiting.  This sounds like something Ned Flanders would approve of rather than something the general gamer would be into. Let's be real here, the Intellivision brand is only relevant to Men/Women in their 40's/50's. Go ask kids, teens or even a lot of people in their early 20's if they ever heard of a INTV and I bet they would just at you with shrugged shoulders.

The majority of people who are interested in this are the same people who frequent forums like this one, which in all honestly is very niche. What is the killer app that is going to get a new demographic interested in this device?  Earthworm Jim is a nice franchise and all, but that game never moved hardware, its not even close to the level of a Sonic, Mario, GTA, or Halo level IP in terms of brand power.

You might say, :"Well we will offer games at much more consumer level friendly prices".  Well that already exists via Steam sales or any mobile device which already has a huge install base.

No disrespect to the people behind this project, but it absolutelty makes zero sense to me.  You are trying to seek out this market that you think hasn't already been taken care of at this point. Kids play on their tablets and Nintendo devices and love them. Why do you think they will drop them in favor of the Amico that is not likely going to offer them something better than what they already have.

Going back to that Ned Flanders comment, I honestly believe the only true success you might have is with super religious families. That is about the only market I can think of that the big three aren't prioritizing.

If you read some of the earlier posts in the beginning of this thread, you will see Intellivision is not trying to compete with Ninendo or any of the other major systems.  They are plowing a path of their own.  Also, the fact that you equivalate a rated E system to "religious families" is completely laughable.  Video games were not always violent like the ones being made today.  I think it's a breath of fresh air to see a system that doesn't make only rated "M" games.  They get repetitive after a while.  This is exactly what the video game market needs, something that stands out from the rest.

For the record, their system isn't going to be running "killer apps", it's going to be playing GAMES! 😉

With no disrespect to the Intellivision team, this phrase has been a pet peeve of mine (in my 25 years of professional video game experience :) )... only small teams use that metric. It means "we're a small team of veterans." That's not a bad thing, but it sounds silly in any other context. For example, just to illustrate the absurdity of the statement, when I was with Foundation 9, I liked to say the company had over 10,000 years of video game experience. Imagine Microsoft or Google using this metric: "...with over 800,000 years of computer experience..." or something to that effect.

I see what you mean. My pet peeve is when someone is talking about video games from the 1980's and they are referred to as "killer apps." They are games people, not applications! :dunce:

  5. Surely this must be a joke. $18 for a cardboard box just to put overlays in?! They would be better off stored in sports card sheets. If overlays are loose in a box, there is a greater chance of damage to the edges. Someone must be smoking something here!

  6. Thank you Willie for posting the videos of your ABC's of Atari 2600! I've missed some so I added them to my YouTube watch list to check out when I have the time. I will also check out your AtariCade videos too. I can't seem to find the Space Invaders episode you mentioned. Can you please repost the link as I would really like to see it. Thanks!
