  1. The portable games are just one way to put a group of games on the SD card. You can also download them yourself and edit them if you don't want to scroll through hundreds of games. I've only put about 60 games on my SD card, but those are the ones I love to play. I've got no time for filler, LOL!
  2. If you are trying to play games included on the console, then you are doing nothing wrong. It could be that the item is defective. If you are trying to play games off the SD card, there could be an issue with the card or roms you loaded. If it is the first one, then take the unit back and exchange it for another one. Is this the Flashback 9 or the Flashback 9 Gold edition?
  3. Gamestop is the only one I know of that has the FB9 Gold in their stores.
  4. Ice Hockey Real Sports Football Pele's Soccer KO Cruiser
  5. In no particular order: Beamrider Defender II Asteroids Space Raid
  6. At this point it doesn't matter because with the firmware upgrade, you can add more games including the missing ones. The main advantage of the gold is the cordless joysticks, which are incredible.
  7. I haven't played that one yet. I'll have to check it out and see if I have the same issue.
  8. That's what I was going to do, but when word got out that the firmware made the SD card slot able to load roms, I had to jump on that and glad I did! When the paddles finally get released, there will be a mad dash to get them. I used to be critical of the paddle games working properly, but since they represent about 5% of the games I actually play, I'm over it. The fact that it plays 95% of the games I love, including homebrew, makes this a no-brainer buy for me.
  9. You have got to be kidding?! That old menu is ugly and very generic. I'm so glad they went with an updated menu that shows multiple boxes on the screen at once instead of the text cartridges. That and the fact that its now in HD makes the composite obsolete. I'm actually surprised they are still churning out those things!
  10. I was ecstatic when I saw that your game Space Raid was on there! I was going to put it on the card anyway. It's still one of my all time favorite homebrew games!
  11. Hey everyone, I wanted to give a quick review of the FB9 Gold here for those who are still on the fence about getting one. I went with the Gold because of the cordless joysticks. These are not the same as the older cordless versions that used a "line of sight" to operate. These new joysticks (since the FB8) are much more responsive. I use a Samsung 4K HD TV and notice no lag whatsoever. After pairing the joysticks up, I loaded the firmware through the SD card slot. A few minutes later and I was ready to load some games and play! All of the games I loaded worked, but here are some highlights based on the incompatibility with previous products (FB portable & Retron 77): Berzerk with voice enhancement Defender 2 Donkey Kong VCS (required an older version like the portable) Galaxian Juno 1st KO Cruiser Omega Race DC Pac Man 8k Rally X Robot Tank Star Wars (all games) I had no sound or screen issues. Everything worked as expected and then some thanks to the games above. I have not tried things like Scramble or Super Cobra Arcade since the FB9 Gold uses Stella 3.9 and those only run on Stella 5 and up. Overall I'm glad I waited it out and didn't buy a Retron 77 because of all the reports of incompatibility in this thread: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/280100-retron77-compatibility-list/ For future updates, I hope to see working paddles with no lag and a more recent version of Stella utilized. Even without those, this year's FB9 Gold is well worth it. GAME ON!
  12. There's a few games the FB9 Gold will play that the portable won't: Beamrider* Bezerk* Commando Raid* Defender 2* Enduro* Galaxian Juno 1st* Rally X* Robot Tank Spy Hunter* *These games required a hack of the original to work on the portable (1st edition). I have both portable & FB9 Gold and see the compatibility on the FB9 Gold as better than both the portable and that inconsistent R77!
  13. No sound issues with the FB9 Gold and I'm running it on a Samsung 4K HD TV!
  14. Paddle Games won't work until AtGames releases their new line of paddles. Star Wars games work!
  15. Just got the FB9 Gold and did the SD card firmware upgrade. This thing plays all the games that I had on my SD card with the exception of DK VCS, although I will probably get an older version to work. Can anyone tell me how to change the aspect ratio from the default 4:3 to the 16:9 that I believe the FB8 Gold played out of the box? PS: For those curious, it played the following games right away: Berzerk with voice Galaxian Defender 2 Ikari Warriors Juno 1st PacMan 8K Robot Tank I've got more to test, but so far it's exceeded my expectations!
  16. Yes, it's been available for over a month now... http://atariage.com/forums/topic/284357-atari-flashback-9-firmware-for-adding-games-to-sd-card/page-1
  17. I'm not touching the R77 at all. That thing is a mess with playing cartridges some times and not others as well as joysticks breaking or not working. No thanks, I'll stick to the flashbacks!
  18. All I care about is being able to play more games than on the portable and so far it sounds like this is possible. Hopefully I'll track one down soon.
  19. I've never heard of the Boom! edition. What is it? Does it affect the 9 and 9 Gold?
  20. Thanks for the feedback. Are you using the FB9 or FB9 Gold?
  21. So what does everyone think of their flashback 9's? It's been quiet lately and was wondering if the ROM compatibility is better than the portable?

  24. Was this a Flashback 9 or Flashback 9 Gold unit?
