  1. I was wondering if anyone out there has built an Atari system using the retropie? Is there a resource you can use online that gives you exactly what you need to load onto the retropie so all you need to do is add your own ROMs? I am not tech savy and would need a step by step procedure of putting this together. As a side note, if any of you have put one together and used an Atari 2600 or a flashback as a shell, please feel free to post your pictures here!

Lastly, has anyone had any difficulties in getting their Atari retropie to show up on your TV at full screen? What did you do to fix that?

    Thanks for your help!

  2. Plug N Plays don't need HDMI Output

Depends on what kind of a TV you are playing it on. If it's a flat screen the RCA hook up makes the graphics look terrible. HDMI is far better with a plug n play hook up. In fact, I've got an Intellivision Flashback modded for HDMI and it looks way better than an original Intellivision ever did, so I would want that for an Atari as well!

Kinda ...but it looks as though they future-proofed this a little bit by using HDMI instead of AV cables (yay) and their Wii/Wii U controller cable standard hookup instead of something entirely new.

This is going to sell like gangbusters. AtGames is lucky they have some portable Flashback systems in the pipe this year to differentiate their stuff from this (of course, Nintendo did portable first, with their handhelds). Nintendo's going to create a lot of buzz, maybe AtGames can ride on some of the coattails with its Atari and Sega offerings.

I don't "need" this but I kinda-sorta want it, even though I have most of my favorites from the game list in other places.

You've heard of the console wars back in the 80's, well now we have the flashback wars! :)

I agree that it should help AtGames to a degree because it helps to further validate the category and should have at least some halo effect. Where it will really help is that if this sells like we expect - in the millions with trouble keeping it in stock - which will validate to retailers the higher $60 price tier and allow other companies like AtGames to release products at that same price point. There's a LOT AtGames could do with an extra $20+ to play with. That's why competition in more niche areas, particularly from companies with deep, deep pockets, can sometimes be a positive.

I also wonder if this will encourage ATGames to go with HDMI for their Atari products if the NES sells well?

  5. That's a good point. Cmart will HAVE TO be on the hockey episode (you're supposed to be too, remember!)...

Rick probably doesn't even know his NHL home team is 2 wins away from a Stanley Cup, so I don't think he'll have much to say... ;-p

I plan on being on that show for sure. I have many fond memories playing slap shot even though you got an interview with Ken on this, it would be great to get him to discuss it in more detail.

There was a Flashback system that actually had paddles included? I didn't bother past FB2.0+, so this is news. Were they digital controllers?...is so, how did they work with a 'real' Atari? Interesting.

They were replica paddles just like the joysticks. They fell a little tighter, but the sensitivity is on par with the originals. They are a good replacement if you can find them.
