  1. There was no box ever made for this game by ICD, who published Aircars with only a white box and glossy manual. On the above pic you can clearly see that the box says "this is a reproduction" so it's not even the original prototype cartridge.

Hah! Missed that, it would definitely help if I actually read things every once in a while. :P Thanks for pointing that out.

That version of Aircars is actually an earlier build than the retail release. IIRC it has a bigger/different dashboard, and only has the tilted steering option (retail has a level and tilted steering option). I forget if there are any other differences.

Thanks for the info! I got the KA version in 2010, and wasn't sure what the difference might be between the two. Seems like their might be some differences with the networking capabilities between versions.

Looks like there might have been a bit more info on JSII, according to linked thread above, but...

  2. Great work, and thanks for the awesome release! I have one small question though...

    (from the first post)

The cartridge supports BJL file loading (BJL cable required) and Jagtopia CD bypass via button presses at boot for quick and simple access to these extras.

I think I am missing something obvious here or because I am just a noob. I am trying to run the BJL loader or Jagtopia with no results so far. At first I assume that "button presses", from the first post in this thread, means that I can press any button and it will detect and load for either function, but still no results.
I did some research on Jagtopia, but it seems that this has only been availiable in CD and Binary versions, and is supposed load automatically when you turn the system on, doesn't work in this situation because Downfall seems to load first. And for the BJL, the only instructions I have been able to find for that are the instructions for Protector SE. Holding 4+8, at boot, is supposed to start that. That doesn't seem to work in this situation.
Again, I am sure I missing something simple. Could someone please clarify how to use the BJL and Jagtopia functions on the Downfall+ cartridge version. Thanks in advance.

  3. Put me down for $20 US to help buy a CD unit. Would love to see this on the Jag, but I understand that porting it will be no small task, and no small commitment from _Orion. Maybe a Kickstarter would be a good way to raise a bit more money, making the process of porting the game an appealing endeavor?

It's still very early release so expect bugs :D

    Graphics Convertor Link

This tool looks nice. 90% of the time I am converting to 16-bit, and it would be nice not having to worry about -cry option and what not.

I was running into the same issue in finding a decent way of editing graphics for the Jaguar, and because I am using linux, I wanted to find a way to do it in linux. The process I use has a few more steps, but it guarantees a file that will work, and it should work fine in Windows as well.

I use Gimp (opensource image editor) in combination with a plugin called 16-bit Dither Script, then I pump it through the image converter provided at the Remover's website. (there is a already built version for windows half way down the page). You can download Gimp Here and the 16-bit Dither Plugin Here.

As for the process, I just build my graphics in whatever way I wish, in gimp or some other program, bring it into gimp, flatten the image, then use the 16-bit Dither Script (located under Image>Mode>Dither to RGB565), save this out to a .png/.gif/.jpg/.tga, and then use the Remover's image converter program, with the options -rgb and --binary, to get a binary file of the image that can be compiled with my programs.

It's a bit involved, but I know exactly what I am going to get. The Dither script does do a slight dither to the graphics, but it isn't over the top, and should work for most cases.
