This same problem just happened to me. I have a Woody 4-switch VCS I bought from Osgeld a few years ago with the component EDIT: composite mod installed. It was working fine but had been stored for the past year or so. I just bought a Harmony and a Ranger controller after watching the RetroRGB stream, and pulled out the VCS to try them out. Surprisingly the picture was just black and white now. I thought maybe the video cable was bad, or the input on my CRT, but I verified it's the console at fault. Would anyone have an idea of what I could look for? Maybe a bad solder point or something? How can I verify if the B/W switch is working if the picture is always black and white? I noticed when I switch it, the picture does look like it's switching... something... and I noticed the sound changes slightly as well when I do this... might that indicate a possible problem?

What's the model number on the PS1? Thanks!

It looked a bit dirty from the top view, and there are some deep scratches on the back and bottom by the ports. I'm not sure if it's just the picture or what.

So weird. Is this just a case of those who have a limited, sought-after item holding onto it for scarcity's sake? Surely someone here has these who would want to post and/or resume production. There's clearly a demand for a second run.

I really wanted them...or at least wanted to want them. Especially the Rainbow Brite handheld. But the company's track record had me skeptical and thus ended up waiting to see how the final product turned out rather than to be sorry for spending so much on a piece of junk. I'm kinda kicking myself now, especially since it looks like there won't be any additional produced for the open market. A perfect opportunity would be a handheld Cabbage Patch Kids, but sadly that won't happen since Hasbro owns the CPK license.
