  1. All these posts about regretting throwing away old game mags. Now I'm never gonna get rid of any of mine and build a fort out of them. For the longest time I used to think I lost my old Dreamcast and I beat myself up constantly for getting rid of it once I started getting into collecting. One day I go down to grandparent's basement and shuffle some boxes looking for old books and find it. I was one happy camper until I realized I only had RF cables for it. It was still in the original box with manual too. Now I don't throw anything just in case.
  2. I really want a nice 80 column PET like the 8032. I know I'd have little use for it but damn that thing is super pretty.
  3. Maybe a bad cable? Try swapping out for a different cable and see if that works.
  4. Yeah those look like 'fake' cherry switches. Quality might be iffy but that is an alright price.
  5. Can't beat Ms. Pacman arcade. I always love seeing the Ms. Pacman/Galaga cabinets at bowling alleys and such. I also like Pacman Championship DX. The intense speed of it makes it really fun. It feels like Pacman on drugs.
  6. The little space thing is kind of a issue for me. I am a very messy person and tiny carts like the Game Boy, GBA, and DS get lost very easily. I have to shove it all in a single box for all my handhelds to make sure I can keep track of it. Also, the "too many games" was kinda dumb and I apologize for that. I guess a better way to put what I was trying to say is, most of the games that are good for GBA and DS are RPGs and the like. Long games and even if I wanted to play them, I just don't have the time for them right now.
  7. I've been playing a ton of Super Street Fighter IV on my 3DS. The combos mapped to the touch screen really help me as I'm not too good at pulling off combos but still love Street Fighter. Mighty Switch Force is also a good retro style puzzle platformer on the e-shop. It is very fun. I highly recommend it.
  8. I feel that modern gamers are starting to wise up to the crap that is being given to them and are starting to demand better experiences. I think that's why we have been seeing the nostalgia train toted around so much these last couple years from Nintendo and the like. I definitely play on my NES more often than I turn on my PS3 or Xbox 360. I've had more fun playing Gyruss and Rad Racer than any of the newer releases that I pick up. The hand holding is a problem with modern games and it is so weird that it is a problem in the first place. That baby gloves stuff makes me feel like the game companies think we are all idiots who don't know what a game is or how to play it. It also can't be cheap to put in, and in a market where every company is whining about how they put so much money into a title but didn't break record sales, I just don't see why they would bother with the hand holding and tutorial stuff.
  9. Most Game Gear games are better emulated. Don't have the problem of the slightly terrible screen, terrible battery, etc. No slowdown either. Any game with slowdown on any system is so much better on emulators. Most old 8bit computer stuff is great emulated. Faster load times over floppy or cart.
  10. Sega Game Gear: Honestly only grabbed it because it was $5 at my local Goodwill. There isn't many, if any, good games for it. I'd rather get a Nomad if I need a portable Sega console. Atari 5200: I've heard so many complaints about the joysticks for the 5200 and it is a giant hulking mass of a console. Plus, why get a 5200 when you can get a Atari 800? Much better. Phillips CD-I: I think the only reason to ever own one of these would be to witness the horror that is Plumbers Don't Wear Ties firsthand. Gameboy Advance: There are a lot of cool games for it but they are buried under so much shovelware. I'd rather emulate it than pull the SP out and boot it up. DS: Same reason as the GBA. SNES: the collecting scene around it is so expensive. I have a few good games for it but would rather play my Genesis.
  11. I've had the same problem with my 2600 as well. When I plug a cart in and turn it on, the screen displays glitchy graphics, if it displays at all. It is pretty consistent with what stuff it displays and it varies from cart to cart. Also using VHF to coax. I have some vids of me playing around with the swtiches to make the screen do weird stuff somewhere on my phone. I could put them on Youtube if anyone would be interested. I'll dig the 2600 out and try fiddling with the TV controls and see if that works and report back here when I do.
  12. Sadly I haven't see much old stuff outside of the hobby circles. We did get a old Gateway computer with a original install of Windows NT that someone brought in that they had for home use.
  13. Maybe the drive is dying? If you have had it for a while it could be time for a replacement.
  14. That's one heck of a game room. Good work.
  15. I picked up an original Atari Pong unit today along with some Colecovision stuff. It did not include a power cable. What kind of voltage does it use? 9v? Thanks in advance.
  16. Maybe it's just the Commodore fan in me, but I've really fallen in love with the Amiga 500's look lately. I also love the look of the VIC 20 for some reason. The white case looks better than the C64's in my opinion.
