  1. I've gotta believe that "Track and Field" was a priority for the 7800 launch(by Warner) in '84. The Summer '84 Olympic Games was no normal Olympics. It was the first time in over 50 years that the Games were held on American soil. The hype was tremendous - like never seen before. In the track and field realm, Carl Lewis was a household name. The World wondered, if this young kid could tie Jesse Owns record, 4 gold medals, in a single Olympics. I could name many other, highly publicized, track athletes of the day, which helped build the hype surrounding the track and field competition. Many, you may remember... So what's my point? Atari Inc., who was a major sponsor of the Games, would undoubtedly see the opportunity in releasing "Track and Field" for their new, state-of-the-art "Prosystem". It could've been developed right up to the final hour of Warner's ownership, as no one at Atari had a clue about the sale until it happened. I figure there is(at least) a partially complete prototype out there somewhere.
  2. Thank you!! Your comment made me laugh til I cried! My first therapeutic laugh in a long, long time.
  3. "Track and Field" is listed as one of the original launch titles for the 7800 - - what happened? Was any code ever written? This would've been a rockin title for the 7800 - especially because of the '84 Olympics. I apologize in advance, if this topic was already covered. Thank you.
  4. Anyway, the first sentence of my first post, should read, "this poll should be in favor of Coleco, but it's not even close!" Forgive me for the string of posts I created - I am a night shift worker, currently running in 5 directions with little sleep!😴
  5. You are 100% correct. Activision games are the true gems. I poorly stated my point, which is; If any company could've pulled off near - accurate arcade ports, it was Coleco. When I was a kid, and went shopping for an Atari VCS game, my first choice was always a port of my favorite arcade game. After being disappointed repeatedly, I stuck mostly with Activision - and was never disappointed!
  6. This poll should be in favor of Coleco. Coleco had a tremendous reputation for quality. Unfortunately, they cheaped out and only used 4K ROM's. (Please correct me if I'm wrong). It's difficult to reproduce arcade titles with only 4k to work with - hence, only 2 levels in Donkey Kong. I wish Coleco would've done something crazy, like create their own expansion module for the VCS. Intellivision almost did this exact thing, but backed off after the failure of the Intellivoice for the Intellivision.
  7. 1. Pitfall! 2. Megamania 3. Keystone Kapers 4. Pitfall 2 5. River Raid 6. Starmaster 7. Kaboom! 8. Freeway 9. Fishing Derby 10. Dragster Another impossible survey!
  8. 1. Pitfall 2. Pac-man(I know, I'm nuts!) 3. Ms. Pac-man 4. Wizard of Wor 5. Millipede 6. Tunnel Runner 7. Megamania 8. Berzerk 9. Pole Position 10. Pitfall 2 11. Battlezone 12. Keystone Capers 13. Cosmic Ark 14. Centipede 15. Donkey Kong 16. Spacemaster X-7 17. Return of the Jedi 18. Dragon Fire 19. Circus Atari 20. Space Invaders I know you wanted 10 entries - here's 20 instead. This was ridiculously difficult!!
  9. Man, does this bring back warm fuzzy memories! Atari was at their peak in '81. Practically everyone I knew received a VCS that Christmas. Thanks for your post!
  10. If I had the mula(money), I would get all the old Atari commercials digitally restored, including the third party's, and make them available for viewing on the Atari Museum website. My favorite of all time: "The Return of Centipede". I can only imagine the response to the guy who pitched this one! It might of gone something like this: "So let me get this straight Vic...you propose a centipede, playing a saxophone, at "Club Centipede", with a scantily dressed woman, recently abducted (by said centipede), dancing seductively nearby. In addition, she has insect-like antenna's in her hair with a zombie like expression on her face...." Hmmm - sounds like a winner!! It doesn't get any better than this!
  11. Berzerk, Pole Position, Ms. Pac-man, Centipede, Millipede, and Battlezone. Throw in Cosmic Ark too - love this game. I will also admit, I play Atari Pac-man constantly! If you told me as a kid, that it would be my favorite as an adult, I would of repeated the whole pigs flying thing! I've recently revisited Haunted House...
  12. I am for Sears Tele-Games all the way! Doesn't matter if it is a 4 or 6 switch. I hope somebody can relate to my story! Christmas morning 1981 - I was slightly disappointed to receive a Sears TeleGames Video Arcade . The rest of the kids in the neighborhood received a "normal" Atari. None of them understood that my system was made by Atari too. Some parents even questioned me, after hearing from their kid, that I didn't get Atari - I got a TeleGames! Yea, I received the same blank stare from them too, when I tried to explain! I know, life was tough back then! Actually, my initial disappointment passed quickly, as I learned to appreciate the Sears styling - the shiny silver plate surrounding the 6 - switches, with "TELE-GAMES" in neon green, over the cartridge slot. Plus, the weird dark wood grain panel in the front touting "Video Arcade". I still own my original!(plus, a few more!)
  13. This is my first contribution to AA. I am quite upset, with what I've been informed of, in this thread. Before you call it quits Bob D. please know this: I enjoy your work tremendously! I can't begin to count the Saturday nights, I've stayed up late, enjoying the games you've brought to the 7800. I wish I could thank you in person for helping rekindle my Atari passion and dreams! Respectfully, Danny Vaughn Casselberry, FL
