  1. I picked up issue #41 yesterday....no sign of #42 yet BTW you can get a DVD that contains the 30 first issues for 20 pounds (UK)...I'll have to check to see how much it would be to ship to North America. Heres the link to the DVD: http://www.imagineshop.co.uk/item_show.php...mp;action=emags
  2. Yeah this one is a faster game...at first I foolishly dismissed it as a cheap Q*Bert knockoff but it's OK. My BOING! was found in a rustic old factory flea market for $1 back in the 90's.
  3. Nice Name! Thanks jboypacman for the heads up. I just found about another doc called "High Score: The Movie". Come to think of it I might look around the net and see if there is a website dedicated to video game documentaries, or a list somewhere. I have the feeling that movies like King of Kong only scratch the surface.....(and then there's all the Pinball movies )
  4. Did this documentary receive a nationwide release or is one planned? By the look of their website it only premiered at a few film fests. Has it been released on DVD yet? http://www.chasingghoststhemovie.com/ Perhaps someone who has seen both this one and The King of Kong can comment on the similaries/differences between the two documentaries?
  5. I think that in the NES or 16 bit era, people frequently passed whole Atari systems and games to someone who still played them rather than throwing them out, so it wasn't uncommon for someone to have multiple copies of games. 2600 games were like VHS tapes today, or the 8 track tapes of earlier days, people couldn't wait to get rid of them.......
  6. The three Pac-man games are what "sumguy" left as a calling card after he lifted all the games like Stronghold, X-man, Boing, etc from the box ......j/k
  7. I found a few minor things today at a random garage sale: NES: Adventure Island II, Dr Mario, Thunder & Lightning $2 ea GBA: Konami Arcade Advanced, ATV Quad Power Racing $3 ea the only one I really needed was Thunder & Lightning, the others are trade fodder.....
  8. So now that you are hooked how many days will you go without sleep?
  9. Does this game just start to recycle the stages as the game goes on or does it end at a certain point? I think I could only get through about 3 or 4 levels at the hardest difficulty, mind you I haven't played it in years so my recollection isn't that clear.......
  10. I'm assuming that this is a programming bug? 10 to 20 minutes is an eternity in programming time!
  11. I get games at garage sales all the time. However, I rarely hear the people say they are ebaying games. I constantly hear people say that they are "holding on to the old stuff" or still playing them. Five years ago people would never admit to this.......... I guess he didnt care about it. He grew up to be a big trouble maker and was in and out of jail often. I even hate saying he was a "friend" of mine at one time. Well at least you got back in touch with him long enough to get a nice find
  12. I'll concur with Zanac too.... IIRC, Zanac also had a sort of "random enemy pattern" feature to the game, which is VERY SELDOM used in shoot'em-up's anymore
  13. Well you obviously have what it takes to be the next world champ But seriously, congrats on the CV defender scores! Nice going! I am a major fan of the Defender genre. That said, when I need my "defender fix" I choose Stargate on MAME. I can't say enough about this game, I consider it the "high water mark" for the classic shoot-em ups. It was so advanced for it's time, what with the incredible menu system that allowed operators to tweak the game to match the skill level of the players. If you like CV Defender I STRONGLY recommend that you check out Stargate (also known as Defender II) on MAME.
  14. You are not alone, there's many people that merely "lurk" here and never become active posters. On average, I would say that less than 1 in 5 collectors I meet while looking for games "in the wild" are active on any of the message boards......they certainly know about eBay though I'm all for more people coming on board...It's much more fun to be part of something that's growing, not shrinking
  15. If Pac-Land had not been in the lot the whole thing would have the appearance of being "picked over"by earlier collectors. Any TGX-16 stuff is a great find these days, so sure $50 is OK.....congrats on becoming a TurboGrafx owner
  16. Here's what I got this morning, $10 for the 4 TGX-16 games, the PC games were a buck each. The game pictured in the lower left corner is Fantasy Zone
  17. The Game Gear is a very affordable system to collect around here. The games are usually $2-$3 used, rarely more than $5. I have a number of extra games for this system. I have noticed that the same games routinely pop up, but last week I was able to pick up these three I didn't have yet for $3 each. Note: I didn't know a Shinobi II existed....I was used to Revenge of Shinobi & Shinobi III of the Genny, but I'm unfamiliar with II.......
  18. Nice playing! Yeah I too have found the game really easy. It seems like it ends up becoming a tedious marathon session where if you die it's because of carelessness or a stupid mistake, rather than a lapse in strategy. BTW, how many hours in total did it take you to get to your score?
  19. I'm not sure this is the case...I thought the sound effect on the original LP was from one of those plastic toy space guns from that era....I think there's a note about this in the album sleeve or something.....
  20. Yeah, I can't figure why they just didn't re-issue the original. I have it on vinyl and it's fun. I remember playing it years back and my GF remarked that the song "Hyperspace" sounded like one of her aerobics work out songs
  21. 2600 lives, Nice list of picks A very nice game......but couldn't they have varied the enemies a bit more? I still find the CV Donkey Kong to be very pale in comparison to the coin-op. The conveyor level isn't there, neither are the springs or barrel level fireballs, as well as the between level animation. Also the game is just too predictable and easy, which CANNOT be said of the coin-op. (I wonder what Billy Mitchell would think of this version ) All things considered though, CV Donkey Kong was still ahead of most other home stuff at the time of release.....
  22. Well not strictly a video game history item, I'd have had the PC fail and the Amiga take the lead in North America.....
  23. I found The Heist to be a bit tedious.....
