  1. I picked up the following stuff over the last week from some second hand stores and yard sales. About half the stuff I still need, the rest is extras including the NES Action 52 and the Atari 2600 games.
  2. ditto here! I still like the original games, and try to get them if possible, but Multicarts (and emulation as well) are a great way to enjoy the games without sacrificing valuable gaming time and money in the quest for the ultra-rares. I think this question really goes back to the age old question of "Are you mostly a collector, a gamer, or both...."
  3. Nice find A.J. Couple of things, I'm amazed that a ColecoVision actually made it to the floor of the thrift, and I'm impressed that you were able to "go back and get it". I my area it would have lasted about 10 minutes.
  4. I'll have to throw in a link to a movie database and a torrent link to the movie "Vinyl". This is from a thread here a few months ago. The "Vinyl" documentary is a must see, it gives a glimpse into the world of the hardcore record collector. On it many of the collectors voice their preference for records over CD's http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120454/ http://www.mininova.org/tor/573339
  5. Can anyone recommend any good freeware shmups (shoot'em-ups) or a good website that lists them? Thanks.
  6. Here's a link from the official site that shows the screening locations. I don't know if this is a complete list though http://billyvssteve.com/tickets/ I'm hoping that a web release or something for this happens since it seems like the distribution is somewhat limited
  7. I was hoping to see it in the Toronto area, but this one doesn't seem to have a Canadian release (If I'm wrong please correct me ) I did see this rather odd video snippet on the Rotten Tomatoes site, It's different from the other two trailers floating around. Check it out: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/king_of_ko...erType=playlist
  8. Here's my latest SNES finds. If anyone needs a Super Punchout, Art of Fighting, Eye of the Beholder, or Contra III, just shoot me a PM......
  9. Here's the SV-328 system that I got about 7 years ago at a flea market. One thing I noticed about this system when I brought it out for this photo is how many weird proprietary parts there are. There are special connectors for the tape drive, A/V out, and P/S (16 VAC & 8 VAC out). At least it takes standard Atari 2600 joysticks. I have a few very basic cassette games for it, and it does have a cartridge port. I'll have to check online to see if there are any options for doing a tape file or some other way of getting abandonware for this system. Check out the leaflet that was an addition to the owners manual and the bit about "...You are the most important component of your new computer system". Heh! User empowerment
  10. Wow some nice finds! Rather than hear people mention eBay when I ask if they have any games, I overwhelmingly hear "yes, but we are keeping them". I've noticed that people are less likely to clear out there old games then say back in the PSX era..... That said the competition for the remaining games is very high.... Oh yeah, no games yesterday, but I picked up some DVD's for cheap this weekend, here's a pic below, if anyone wants any just PM me....
  11. I didn't know that TG recorded scores for consoles....I had thought they were coin-op only
  12. Are these movies online anywhere? I only viewed the trailers on youtube?
  13. Hi, I've got an X-arcade controller (the one pictured below) that I'd like to hook up to my HP Pavilion Laptop for testing, etc. The X-arcade controller has the standard PS/2 connector(PC connector NOT playstation 2). My laptop lacks a PS/2 connector as everything is through a USB port. I have a PS/2 to USB adapter, but the X-Arcade controller is not recognized by my Vista operating system. Will I need to go out and buy an adapter, or is there a work-around? Thanks.
  14. Haha! That reminds me of the time I was playing Gorf in the arcades and got wasted trying to reach the level of Space General or something. Just as the machine was saying the "Gorfians conquer another galaxy" line I kneed it in the coin box causing the voice to go funny and stutter!......
  15. Boxed is a nice bonus, especially if it's the deluxe boxes like the Psygnosis stuff for the Amiga. But to me they aren't necessary since I'm really after the game play not the extras. That reminds me, I think to save up space and keep things tidy, I may remove the inserts and instruction manuals from my Sega games and store them in a binder, and put the bare black plastic boxes in bulk storage.
  16. Yeah they are complete games. The Sonic game has a title screen that says Sonic 3D Blast 5 and is referred to on the menu select as just Sonic5. The game is a 2D side scroller very close to Sonic the Hedgehog on the Genesis.
  17. Here's a batch of games I picked up over the weekend.A few are from a garage sale, the remainder from a used game store: The NES games , ATV Offroad Fury II, Carmen Sandiego, and my loose doubles of Boogerman, Syd of Valis, and Atomic Robo Kid are trade fodder. @RaRoss: That's a cool find. Imagine how much other stuff probably went to that dump over the years........
  18. Heh! Oh yeah, "Bare Knuckles" is actually Streets of Rage.......
  19. This last Friday I picked up the below Genesis 10 in 1 ($5), and a pirate 25 in 1 Gameboy cart ($10), both from a used game store. I'm wondering if anyone else sees these around at all? I'm used to seeing lots of NES pirate multicarts, but not usually for other platforms. Does anyone know anything about these (i.e. were they mail order only, or offshore imports?). Thanks.
  20. Great topic Yes, I collected before classic gaming had caught on like it has now. Everything you mention above rings true, especially the bit about people considering older systems junk. Around here its only been the last several years that we've seen a big spike in the cost of classic stuff like the SNES games. I almost think of the cost of these games in the used gaming stores as almost a J-curve. I say "J-curve" because you had the period of time in the mid 90's where they were still being sold retail and in demand somewhat, then people moved on to the N64 and PSX and the price dropped off dramatically. I'd say that likely the period around 2000-2003 was when the prices on even boxed SNES stuff was dirt cheap, and then the prices started to rise because they were being viewed as "collectible". So now we have many SNES games above $30 (some select ones MUCH higher). All things considered though, I think it is a great time to be collecting, as there has never been so many alternatives. You go into a used game store and it's like walking into a candy store, what with all the games on display (especially the Gameboy/GBA/DS stuff!). Add to this the incredible emulators out there like MAME, and all the classic compilations, and you'd literally have to lock yourself away for a few years to play everything........
  21. I'm guessing that these are rare and/or expensive imports? is there a North American source for these?
  22. You're confusing two different games. Coleco did advertise a game called Dracula, but this was a completely different game than the Imagic Intellivision game. Coleco never even started work on Dracula from what I've been told, the screenshots were just mock-ups (they really did look too nice for the Colecovision back then). Imagic also never released Dracula on any system other than the Intellivision. Tempest BTW, Intellivision Dracula isn't too hard to find. I have several myself kicking around (including at least one complete one). IIRC, Dracula was never released for the CV.......(likely cut short like everything else due to the "crash")
  23. Well there's always the Taito coin-op Fire Trap (also ported to the C64, and I'm sure other systems). http://www.coinop.org/g.aspx/100269/Fire_Trap.html
  24. Well considering the shape that the Vectrex was in that I detailed in this thread (and that was with all of the loose dust blown off) , I wouldn't worry too much about a little "krunk" http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=110088
