  1. Hi Mathy, Thanks for the info. I'll try contacting Video 61 as well. I wish I knew more about this interface, etc.. Anyone suggest a inexpensive E PROM reader/programmer? the E PROM hip on this interface is a 2722A-20. I'll provide some internal shots of the interface. -Spicy
  2. I used to have a Supra Interface, but never used it and gave it away years ago. However, I still have the docs, so I'll look through those and see if there is anything that might be of help. Since the boot partition info is probably different, at best, you might be able to use a BB or MIO to get the *raw* data off, assuming the drive is still OK. That would be ugly. Your best shot is to get this system running. IIRC, you have to plug in a ribbon cable connector to the PBI on an XL. Are the contacts on the PBI card-edge connector *scrupulously* clean? Check all your connections. Power supply good? If this worked when you stored it, then it *should* work now. No guarantees, but the odds are this is a "cable or crud" issue. Clean and check things. Do you still have the SDX cart? Does it work ok by itself? If you boot with a SD 3.2 or 3.3 floppy (properly configured) can it recognize the drives? Did you possibly use another Dos such as MyDos to set this up? Any error messages -- 130, 160, etc.? -Larry Hi Larry, I've gone over the connectors with a pencil eraser, and alcohol and lint free swabs. The power supply might be in question. I did measure the 5 volt line and it seemed low. like 4.78V. I'll see if I can find another PS. I remeber using SpartaDOS X with the setup. All sparta does is do all it's farting noises, says r-time8 cart not present, and ramdisk setup. I tried running the FORMAT command, and it doesn't see the drives. If it was to boot up correctly, the 1st partition is a 720 Sector *fake floppy" (D1:) and I had a autoexec batch file on there to setup paths, etc. I get nothing out of that either. I'm wondering if the E PROM chip is flaky. It has been covered with a plastic housing, but the E PROM itself doesn't have a sticker over the window. I contacted DanWinslow to see if I could borrow his interface, and he said he'd let me. So I'll wait for it to show up, and try his. Thanks. -Spicy
  3. bump... And to all you BB or MIO guys. Would I be able to read the data from my HDD (if it works) with a MIO or BB? Thanks! -Spicy
  4. Hey all, I have a question about data recovery for the 8-bits. I have a Supra/k-Products HDD interface w/10 Meg HDD. Well it was in storage for a long time, but before it was stored away, it worked. I never did do a backup, even though I had a APE system running as well (Stupid me). Anyway, is it possible to recover the data from the drive, it was split into three partitions, a 720 Sector boot partition, and then 2 more partitions of equal size. The interface I think works, but not sure, and the HDD, well it spins up, but nothing else. When I turn on the Atari, it's sending some signal to the HDD to do something (I can hear the heads inside move), but still nothing. Could this drive be hooked up to a MIO or blackbox to get to the data? I think I used SpartaDOS X at the time. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! -Spicy
  5. I picked up a used MyIDE+1Mb Flash cart. Though it didn't work, I sent it off to Steven Tucker for repair. Pretty soon I'll have two of these puppies.
  6. It could be as simple as the drive # switches are set incorrectly. A little more advanced would be a chip that is used for the SIO transfer, I think it's called a RCA 3080 chip (don't quote me on that) these are available through Best Electronics for a few bucks. -Spicy
  7. Say I wanted to paint my cases.... What colors do you reccomend for the beige, brown, and gray plastics? like a krylon #xxxx or some other brand... cuz I just started pulling my stuff from storage, and it's all looking yellow, not from smoking either. Thanks! -Spicy
  8. Thanks for the info. I'd like to use it mainly for APE/Prosystem stuff. having it for internet, etc on the side would be nice. but it's mostly going to be used for serving. I'm keeping my eye out for a decent machine, but I don't like using places like eBay for these. i've tried the local paper, craigslist, and word of mouth, but nothing good. Well I can live w/the old machine for now. The laptop will be something in the future.. Thanks again. -Spicy
  9. Hey all, I am looking for a decent laptop to replace a desktop PC I am using for a APE/Prosystem setup. Since space is tight at the new apt, and I don't want to make the missus mad by taking over the 2nd bedroom. Any adivice or selling or giving away on a low end (PII, PIII, K6, K6-2) laptop? Doesn't need a battery, AC adapter would be helpful. PCMCIA slots at least 2, or built in LAN. at least one Serial Port. Memory 128 MB, HDD any size, since files will be coming off of a NAS. What do you folks use, and how well does it work? If you know of or have something, please sent a message. Thanks. -Spicy
  10. http://digg.com/design/Atari_Artwork http://www.safestuff.com/atariart.htm Interesting find. Enjoy. -SChronos
  11. What is the software that he is playing with on the screen on the 800? I've never seen that before.
  12. This is GREAT! Just wish I didn't have to get the .NET stuff to make the software run. What other features will you be adding to this? I'd like to see sort of a *ahem* cheat *ahem* system or editor. I always wanted to write or get a program that would display the map, show you where all the goodies are, and be able to print it out, etc.. Thanks for all your hard work. -SChronos
  13. Hi all. Well I had to throw out the Antic Magazines, wife wouldn't let me keep them. I am so sorry, I also lost internet last friday, and today is the 1st time I was able to get back on. I still have the hardware and when I get settled into the new place, i'll put up some of the items I have that I won't have room for. So please be patient and I'll make some good deals on what I have. Thanks all. -Marshall
  14. alright, I'll bring them up to the room, and make a list of what issues I have. as for shipping them, that would get expensive. I would like to try and give these away locally. thanks again. -Marshall
  15. Hi all, Wife and I are moving and I need to give up some posessions. I have a small collection of Antic Magazines that are in pretty good shape. they've been stored for several years now. The deal is, they're free to anyone who wants them. I live in the 60033 zip code area. Harvard, IL. please e-mail or leave a message if you would like these. After Saturday night August 12th, they are going into the dumpster. I might part with some hardware as well for free, I think I have a 130XE, 65XE and some 1050 drives I can give up as well. if no one want's them i'll take them with me. those are not going into the dumpster. Thanks all. -Marshall
  16. The TGIF here in Rockford, IL (off of Perryville Rd) has a 5200 stuck to the wall, with a cart in it and a 5200 controller. I didn't see the name on the cart. There is also a IBM thinkpad and I think a Timex sinclair on the same wall. all surrounded by Star Wars posters. -SC
  17. Well it is a very old interface. I haven't had any problems with it. It does require external power from a molex connector. so the power supply to power the HDD, powers the interface as well. -Spicy
  18. Hi! I have one as well. Bob Klaas is the owner of K-Products and I contacted him a few years ago, due to I had one, but lost the interface in a move, but still had the HDD. My setup is a 20 Meg SCSI HDD, in three paritions. The interface has a ROM that contains the Parition information. To change it, you need to get the new information about the new drive, and how you want to split it up, then re-burn the ROM. THe interface is pretty good, it also contains a parallel port interface. But for more information, try locating Bob Klaas. Last time I knew where he was, was in the Salt Lake City, Utah area. Hope this helps. -Spicy
  19. That is a very cool game! Good work! -SC
  20. Hi All, I have a fairly large collection of Atari ST disks, that are either PD/Shareware that I would like to create images to use in a emulator or provide to the TOSEC scene. I need something to create .ST .MSA disk images, if that is what is currently used for images, or I can attempt to use something else. Please let me know of some links, sites, etc. Thanks all. -SC
  21. Gotta copy the link minus the ) and you'll be able to download it. http://files.dhs.nu/movies/demos/tng-96k_intro.mp4 there's a corrected link. -SC
  22. Another idea popped into my head this morning... On retrofitting this, I had an idea of having molded plastic made to match the shape of your 8-bit, 800xl, 65/130xe, etc.. to mold to the top of the 8-bit on the right hand side near the SIO port. What i'm trying to visualize is the will be in a 1/2" high piece of molded plastic that's the same color and design of the existing top cover, and will fit snugly over it, with the display in the middle of the piece on the right hand side. The LCD screen that's in there would be at a slight angle so it could be read easily, and the slot for the SD card would be on the right hand side, or on the back of the piece, so it wouldn't get bumped by hands plugging in joysticks, etc.. Whaddaya think? Am I mad? -SC
  23. Any more information or updates for this cool little project? -SC
  24. Is there anyway to get more information about this project? I'd like to see more info on how it works, etc.. Does it use a PIC or some other type of cpu, etc. what the buttons do, etc. I'd like to see more of this please! -SC
  25. Hey I just had an idea pop into my head... Why not some how retrofit this into an existing 1050 case, with the LCD display in place of the floppy mech, and those buttons put along the bottom or on the side like a happy mod or write protect switch mod would go, that I think would look snazzy in a desktop setup. You could utiilize the power and the SIO ports plus the drive selection switches from the existing board, or make a new one so you could have those features. You'd possibly have to add a little weight to the case to make it feel like a 1050 drive, due to the floppy mech would be pulled out. just a small rambling and idea... Thanks for reading. SC
