  1. Lov'n the IIc. I recently re-hooked mine back up to play with using it as a serial console on my Linux box. I wish that Apple sold the 9" CRT that matches up with the IIc in color. I can't fit the bigger monitors on desk shelf.
  2. 32GB SSDs are cheap now, < 50 bucks usually. I like the silent factor of them.
  3. I would say, most of the time yes. You need to play a game to know how well it will appeal to you. I've seen plenty of cool looking games that I ended up not liking just because I didn't like how they "felt" to me.
  4. I use Linux on my mame cab. I prefer it actually. It works perfectly fine, depending on the hardware. It is certainly more of a pain to setup compared to Windows, but nothing requiring uber hacking skills or anything. For reference, I use stock Debian as my OS, and I use a Mini ITX Celeron NM70 based mobo on my current mame rig. I use MahCade! (a fork of WahCade!) as my front end. With a SSD the system boots crazy fast, and it requires MUCH less RAM than a Windows 7 rig would.
  5. Yeah, I'm not sure who the target market is for this thing. I'll stick to my NES toploader thanks!
  6. Tagging this thread so I can be notified when the new Harmony cart(s) is/are available. Keep up the good work Harmony dudes!

    First!

First blog post. I'll use this to introduce myself. I'm LaXDragon, a looong time passionate collector of video games. I've been playing since I first laid my paws on a 2600 back in the late 70's. About 5 years ago I finally convinced my wife to allow me to take over a corner of our basement solely for the purpose of displaying and playing my collection. Prior to this it was mostly kept in storage bins. It started small, just an enclosed entertainment center with a few systems hooked up. In there was also my first MAME PC. First purchase was to get a cabinet. Problem is the ceiling in the basement is pretty low, about 6'8". That and there was not a ton of space. So I was limited in what cabinet I could get. Thanks to the dudes at Rec Room Masters, I was able to find a cabinet the fit the bill perfectly. While the original enclosed entertainment center kept things clean, it really wasn't "showy". So, I did some research, and got some ideas. Ikea sells these gorgeous red shiny bookshelves. With a bit of modding, (adding a backboard, some legs, and finally some interior lighting), I could really show off my console collection. Since then I've slowly been adding more art and tchotchke. My collection continues to grow as well. I regularly check my local thrift shops. I'll blog more about what games I've found, and blather on about the thrill of the hunt. Lastly, more information can be found on my personal home page where I also maintain a custom written database of my collection.

    MAME Arcade Cabinet

    From the album: LaXDragon's Collection

My MAME cabinet. Purchased from the great team at Rec Room Masters. I do not have a lot of space, and this LCD packing cabinet fits the bill nicely.
  15. Oh man, I love my IIc. I've had it on my desk for the last 15 years (before that in storage). I only recently actually re-plugged it back in to see if it still worked. Had not powered it on in over 5 years. I'll have to post some pics of it later.
