  1. I find it very interesting that the highly touted "Roll of honour" that was featured on their site with the names of all backers is deleted from their site. The same roll that was apparently the cause for delays earlier when not enough people had signed up for it... Either people have forgotten about it or lost all hope/too embarrassed to have their names associated with the device or RCL are too ashamed to list all the people they ripped off publically in case these people go to court. Remember that RCL have already lost a case in court and now have the IGG hounds chasing them. I'm so disappointed that it had to go this way. The original Vega is a lovely device in its own right although pricey, with the only big minus is the missing keyboard. A project by honest and decent people and even had the console assembled in the UK which may explain some of the high cost, which I am perfectly OK with.
  2. Congratulations to Atari for smashing the crowdfunding goals. Admittedly those 100k was way low anyway, but still. Hope they'll pull it off and not burst into flames. Remember that the Vega+ and Ouya also were huge successes in their respective categories but Ouya died and Vega+ is an unreleased mess of drama, courts and bitter disputes. Oh and don't forget Gameband... I won't get the Box because I already have more capable devices for everything it does and I think it is waaay overpriced, besides, the new Tempest will arrive on PS4 anyway. That controller combo sure looks like a great deal for some good looking controllers though. Might get a pair or two for use on said other devices provided they don't suck. Will wait for reviews.
  3. Worked really nice with the Ouya where everyone who bought the console or registered on their website was issued a "Developers licence", didn't it? If nothing else they got a lot of content on their store. 90% of which was simple android junk shovelware but hey, looks impressive from a distance at least! Given Ataris recent legal crusade against the likes of Nestlé over KitKats Breakout ad and other sillyness the risk is more that Atari is so aloof and high strung about their legacy that they will only let the most noble of developer let their hands on their most holy IP and develop for this most exclusive of systems.
  4. My hat is off to Atari. They actually made the announcement about a new announcement in April as they promised, however at the last minute but we are used to that. Still a shame that we can't know squat about the internals or any exclusive games for it until the last minute either but we are used to that too. I think they better bring something capable to the table and a bunch of cool games if they expect people to shell out a couple of hundred $$$ a year in advance and hope for the best. Atari Vault? So lame. I already have that for PC and a Flashback 4 and 8 so that is not exciting at all. I will with almost total certainty not buy this device as I already have several devices that can do the same or better, but if their cool joystick comes with USB I will probably buy 2 of those and use on aforementioned better devices. EDIT: Someone said emulation for their 8-bit computer, 5200, 7800 and Jaguar. If they manage to cram that in the box together with some a virtual console-esque hub for getting games my interest in getting it is vastly increased.
  5. I'd love to see the Atari trademark bought by a competent corporation with the talent and money to make shit happen. As what happened to aforementioned Indian Motorcycles. But the old Atari is dead and I'm sure people would be equally pissed if, say, Samsung bought the Atari name and started some projects under that name, but anything would be better than the current Infogrames ownership really. If French Peugeout bought the rights to the Oldsmobile brand it wouldn't be a "true" Oldsmobile either, but we would have "Olds" roaming the streets again, for what it's worth... but Oldsmobile enthusiasts would crap their pants in pure rage just like Atari fans are doing now.
  6. Why oh why do you keep tormenting me like this, Atari? Why must I continue to suffer? Seriously though. This is ridiculous. Concerning Mac's departure from the project, good riddance. He's better off finishing the game-watch than dabble in more projects. How or why he left is his story to tell. EDIT: I'm sad to see Historian go. For what it's worth you contributed more than you think in my opinion.
  7. Wouldn't be surprised actually, but at least in some jurisdictions there is a clear difference between a pre-order and a crowdfunding pledge, where if you pledge money to a crowdfunding scheme and they up and run with your $$ or simply fail, the joke is on you but if they call it a pre-order you may claim your money back. A recent court case in the UK against the trainwreck that is the Vega+ project has the creators fine-print overturned and the backers can claim their money back, even though formally it was a "donation" but the court ruled that the backers had paid for a product and treated it as any other pre-order. May not mean much internationally, but hopefully it's a small step in the right direction. I am extremely sceptical towards crowdfunded video game systems in general.
  8. Wow. Gone for 2 weeks and the taco really hits the fan. I haven't seen any mention of crowdfunding anymore. That is good. Also haven't seen Big Mac around for some time. That is also good. Read some blurb about new AMD chips. That is good. Design of console is still stylish and sleek, and the modern controller looks nice too. Glad to hear that the joystick will double as a paddle, that was one of the big questions I had early on. But we all know that it's easy for Atari to talk the talk, and apparently very hard to walk the walk. Still very uncertain that anything will become of this device of course, as it is a bit jinxed and cursed. In all, everything is good in r̶e̶t̶r̶o̶l̶a̶n̶d̶ Atariland.
  9. Legacy and modern devices eh? iTari 2.600 Since everything modern has to have a name starting with a lower case i or u, and have a . in the model number despite it always being followed by a 0. yTari would be more fitting. Y not?
  10. My only hope for the announcement where they will announce that they will make an announcement later on is that they have dropped the stupid indiegogo crowdfunding scheme and will fund it through conventional means. If so I might find interest in the thing again. I don't give a single f#%k about their lame cryptobuzzcurrency brainfarting. I'm with Historian on that one as just a lame attempt to raise the stock and be one with the it-crowd for the moment.
  11. Concerning Gameband: isn't it almost 2 weeks ago they promised to get the website up and offer more info "by the end of the week" or something along those lines? It appears that both the Gameband and the AtariBox live in an alternate dimension where the perception of time itself is warped and distorted. We are but mere mortals and as such cannot comprehend these mysterious forces without going insane.
  12. It's a step in the right direction if done right, creating buzz and "brand awareness". Sure they can rake in some nickels and dimes pushing tees and hats with the Fuji logo on it, heck even i got a bag with the Atari fuji on it as a present because the person giving it to me knew i liked to play "those old games", but it is a far cry from producing stuff that ACTUALLY relate to you as a game/console/tech-related company, rather than a fashionable brand. Selling licences for clothes, bags and hats with speakers in the brim will not give them the experience need to make a console, but i guess they rather take it on the same way, just license it and hope for the best. Yes, they are making that Rollercoaster Tycoon-thing and that Pride-parade game, but it's a far cry from the position they really want to be in. I'm looking at it from this angle: there are 3 current hardware projects with the Atari logo that is relevant right now. The Flashbacks, which are by all accounts some kind of success. The Gameband, which is (from my perspective) on life-support and struggling hard, and the very much dead Ataribox. The latter 2 has (had?) the same people on them at the top and things are not well, and AtGames handles the first one. Maybe i'm making a too simplified analysis but i'm ready to say that Mac & co perhaps isn't the best people to handle these rather advanced projects and should perhaps "stick" (heh!) to USB-sticks on bracelets. Of course i have no idea if AtGames are more capable or even interested in making a watch or a more advanced box, but i really like how they upped the ante between the rather crude Flashback 4 and the much more elegant Flashback 8 Gold which is my most recent buy. Things are certainly moving in the right direction there.
  13. Took some serious time reading up on this. I'm all aboard on the AtariHoax name. Watching people discuss penny stocks and the fantastic new ideas about to come out from the companies behind those stocks is great fun. It reminds me of the movie The Wolf of Wall street when DiCaprios character, after being fired from a big wall street institution, turns to pushing penny stocks for useless companies with outlandish claims and promises. Needless to say, he and his cronies are the only ones to get rich from the ordeal ?
  14. Just goes to show that they might be eager to respond if you are an investor with big bux in stocks, but neglecting and dismissive if you are an average Joe with a legitimate question, drunk or not. This has only fueled my disregard for this company.
  15. So far everyone who has emailed Atari or Ataribox has had only spam or nothing returned. I doubt they care or even read these, assuming the mail address actually goes anywhere. Did they have a presence at all at CES?
  16. Yeah you know your console is a winner when Coleco Holdings is endorsing you, even when you have canceled the campaign for it.
  17. I won't. I'll rather wait until they have the actual damned thing on the store shelf and get it then rather than part ways with my money now and hope I get something in 6 months bar any silly USB-connector delays like the Gameband backers are experiencing as we speak. I hope Atari sobers up and ditch the crowdfunding malarkey and find some real investors with good connections instead.
  18. I know that AtGames that makes the Flashback consoles has sold new paddles a while back, and the Activision edition of the Flashback 8 comes with new paddles in the box.
  19. Feargal is taking the brunt here as he's been the face of this adventure. He was the one being interviewed by Ed Fries, and he is the one listed as boss in the project. Like every other aspect of this project we are merely grasping the few straws we have before us. The only really big difference with this project and Chameleon right now is that Mr Kennedy and his team spoke too much and all the time, basically whatever you asked he had an answer to immediately, every one of those answers were lies though. Mac and team Atacobox never speak, aside from that one interview thats getting old now and some repeated blurb about AMD and Linux, and the message of delay. So as earlier stated by others. Not damned for too much communication or too little. Merely poor communication.
  20. I believe he is no longer that interested in this thread as he's no longer involved in the TacoBox by his own accord. It's mostly food-related silliness anyhow.
  21. Not unlikely actually, since only people on the mailing list has been informed by Mac's crew on the delay and their Facebook and Twitter has been eerily silent, with Atari SA themselves in France stating to French media that it will be put on delay. Something isn't right behind the woodgrain wall, that's for sure.
  22. The Gameband is also dealing with issues at the moment. The continuing problems with their USB C connector haunts them and now people were asking on their KS comment section why the latest update was delayed. Snipped from their response: "We are ultimately a small team, which can be fun when we are building cool (and sometimes challenging) things, but can also be a challenge when anything out of the ordinary hits the team. Weve been dealing with some pretty substantive personal issues this past week. Not an excuse, just an explanation for our unexpected radio silence. Well be getting our communication back on track from tomorrow, and thank you a lot for being patient with us." Historian has told us they are separate projects, but we've also been told by Mac et. al. that they are part of an ecosystem. I can't help but wonder if the issues plaguing the band has spilled over to the box. I'm getting a feeling that the small team has taken a bigger bite than they can eat.
  23. So a tech start-up with some dubious crowdfunding adventures behind them will approach Sony and license the rights for a RCA Studio 3? "In 2018 relive the legendary gaming experiences of TV School House 1 & 2, Gunfighter and Moonship Battle in HD! Sign up here for our weekly spam telefax!"
  24. Was involved? Was never? I thought Atari *is* still involved and it still *is* more than a licensing deal. I'm probably reading too much between your lines but the way you are wording it like a thing of the past make a small part of me believe that this system is unofficially dead and buried now, with Atari and Mac having parted ways.
  25. I find it interesting when they say that they will give a new schedule and detailed information soon when they so far has given us extremely little information. So eager to start collecting our money. So uninterested in telling us what we are paying for. And on another note the fact that they clamped down on the Dreamcade campaign due to the the Atari titles on there ostensibly because the launch its own system was imminent and didn't want competitors and then failed to realize the system leave a bad taste in my mouth.
