Analysis
Maybe the serial numbers are assigned to cases, later also stuck on the box, and both are stamped with the Y/M when they pass QA. So ones that fail and are repaired will have out of order stamps?
Maybe 2009309 had its entire board replaced?
The out-of-order numbers seem to happen in the final months. Maybe supplies were so short that Atari repaired every unit they could that had previously failed QA, shipped them, and then shipped the prototypes JANs?
Other sightings:
LittleJoe has the only Rev 3 Atari I've ever seen, but efforts to contact him here and ebay failed. Unknown serial #
AtariJoe has "a few." His email, youtube channel and website are gone. He stopped tweeting & posting on FB on 1/30/2017. May be deceased?
the.golden.ax had 1, sent it to Longhorn, I assume that's the # above, he was going to send it to Marty for a museum
maiki has X 11A4 304699, sounds like a pal 3

How many were made?
All 2600 Jrs: 2,071,066+ made (assuming no overlap in serial numbers and assuming Ravenprose's number is real)
1-chips: 19,290 in the contiguous block of known 1-chips 2038237 to 2057527
32,830 counting 2038237 to 2071066, assuming it is real.
45,508 if we assume 2025559 is a 1-chip (optimistic) and assume 2071066 is real and count to it, and assume that 2009309 is a glitch
60,000+ if we count from 2009309 to 2071066 and assume the 2 3 s are glitches (very optimistic)This seems even less likely after finding 201118650,000 might be a good guess, as that's a nice round number of chips to order from a fabricator.
Assumptions for all units listed:
Long rainbow model Atari 2600 Junior
Serial number format appears to be: A1 YM NNNNNNNMade in Taiwan in the year 198Y for 7-9 or 1990 Y=0, month M (1-9,A,B,C for Jan-Dec)
Color of YM doesn't seem to matter. So far I've seen blue, green and black.
NNNNNNN is the raw number of units made at that factory (I have no actual evidence of this)

This looks like a 3-chip, right?
I was hoping 1-chips started around unit #1,900,000 and they made 170,000+. This one I just found suggests they don't start until after 2,025,558 and there were around 45,508 made (if we assume @Ravenprose owns a 1-chip and it was one of the last ones made)
Otherwise, we have only confirmed they made 2057527 - 2042053 or 15,474 1-chip units!! That's about 0.75% of total production of Jr.s if the serial numbers can be trusted.

I assume someone figured this out but it wasn't listed. It seems the format for Long Rainbow NTSC serial numbers is

The yy seems obvious, and the mm is always in the range 00-11. But that could be coincidence, as the XXXXX seems random. Maybe, like the score in Asteroids, it flips after 100,000?

That picture of the FB3 is exactly what I'm hoping for -- those chips are perfect for extracting data. I fear the glob-top... It doesn't make it impossible, it just makes it more annoying than I want to deal with for now.
I'm surprised nobody has done a tear down or review of the FB4 showing the chips.

The great Google is rife with search entries theorizing that the FB4 is just a generic ARM machine running an emulator.
Which is great as I have experience reversing Arm and Thumb. Sadly none of those site say which Arm chip it was, nor include a picture showing which, if any, external ROM is on board and what kind of anti-tamper work they've done.

I am considering buying a flashback 4 and seeing what I can do to it. I decided to research it online first and I can't find a single picture of it's mainboard or description of the chips it uses. Does anyone have that information or pictures?
My goal would be to use a chip reader to extract information from the ROM and the reverse engineer the program in Ida Pro to see what I can work with. But that requires there to be a ROM/PROM, and preferably for it to be accessible (some boards cover them in black sludge).

Not a useful data point, but mildly interesting: apparently some boxes have the serial number on them. Only 1 out of 3 of this type of box I've seen on ebay.
