  4. Note sure if this has been discussed here before (I did a forum search but couldn't find anything). I found a fun link which shows you how to make retro computer themed paper models. There's one for the Atari. There are free too! http://www.paper-toy.fr/2011/10/10/foldskool-heroes-by-marshall-alexander-x-13/
  5. Just watched an interview with the show's creator where he reveals the Atari 2600 games used on the set.
  6. I was browsing through You Tube and came across this interesting video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7XfaVkIlqo Quite surprised that the makers have including the mighty Jaguar at number 5. Yes, it had it's issues, but I have fond memories of my Jaguar. There were some really cool and innovative games and I actually liked the joypads, dispite what the video says. I have to agree with most of the other choices though
  7. In British schools in the early 80s, there was no clear leader in the debate due to the larger number of machines on the market. Then a few years later, the dominatores were the C64 and Spectrum. If you owned anything else you were considered an outcast and laughed at. It's all pretty stupid now when you think back about it, but incredibly it still exits today with grown adults and their choice of mobile/cell phone. I've written about the computer rivalries in my book.
  8. There's an interesting item on Computer and Video Games that suggests Valve are working on Half-Life 3. Although Valve have never publically confirmed this. The article does sound promising though. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/464734/valve-working-on-half-life-3-and-left-4-dead-3-looks-great-claims-counter-strike-creator/
  9. Take a look at the photos of a father and son, 5 year project to pack their basement with arcade machines. Stunning http://kotaku.com/all-star-dad-builds-incredible-basement-arcade-with-his-509388488

  11. The remake of classic 80s game Elite has entered its fourth and final Alpha phase and is preparing to enter Beta on May 30. There's a new press release on their website: http://elite.frontier.co.uk/ Super, super excited about this one.
  12. North Korea’s bonkers leader, Kim Jong Un, stars in his very own retro style game: “Glorious Leader!” News link: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morn ... ideo-game/ You Tube link:
  13. Just read this on GameSpot... 1982's Atari 2600 game Haunted House is making comeback. Atari announced today that a new version of the game is available now for iOS devices through iTunes. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/atari-resurrecting-1982-game-haunted-house-for-ios-devices/1100-6419652/
  14. Released for the Sinclair ZX81 back in early 1982, running on a 8 bit computer with a tiny 3.5MHz CPU and just 16K of RAM and yet this fantastic game in its day scared the living hoohaw out of me. Possibly the first example of a first person perpective game.
  15. I have one for my 2600, but of if the directions no longer works.
  16. Each chapter is devoted to a year in the 80s rather than a specific computer. Although the ST gets quite a big mention.
  17. Please may I introduce you to my new book called: Diary Of An 80s Computer Geek. This is an autobiographical look at the development of home computers and games during the 80s from a teenager's perspective. The book provides an insight into how the availability of affordable functional devices generated legions of enthusiastic fans and spawned a new generation of coders and developers. The book is currently available through Amazon, Google Play and Apple iBooks. (Only 70p / 99c). http://www.amazon.com/Diary-80s-Computer-Geek-Computers-ebook/dp/B00JYGGCTO/
  18. Classic computers spawned a new generation of fans that wanted to learn how to program their machines. Classic computer users were do-ers, they created stuff, they were innovaters. Modern computer users are just that... users.
