  1. You need an Atari 1040STe with an Atari SC1435 colour monitor. That's what I have. :-)
  2. Hi guys, I'm getting a BOOT ERROR on my XF551 disk drive and I suspect it has a dirty head. How do you clean it? TIA.
  3. @bjk7382 There's a screen shot of a green alient at http://vjetnam.hopto.org/atari/index.php?f...tt&dir=r&page=2 @SS This thread is getting me interested about the game. Can you scan the whole manual please?
  4. Here's a recent thread on using SIO2PC with Macs http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=47721
  5. Yes, the USB-to-Serial adaptor will work with APE. However note that APE can only use COM1-COM4. I was just lucky that my laptop PC had COM3 available.
  6. Hi guys, I finally managed to get a 5.25" floppy disk drive mechanism (they are very hard to find) but unfortunately after hooking it up with the XF551, I'm still getting the dreadful BOOT ERROR. Now for the questions: 1. What causes a BOOT ERROR? 2. Are there other ways to fix it other than replacing the mechanism? Regards, Don
  7. Hi guys, Will a cable like this work? http://www.cablemax.com/show-item.cfm?catl...s.cfm&id=310338 Not bad for $3.25 -Don
  8. @Saikyo Yes you can use MAKEDISK in Windows XP but as I said it is unreliable. I could say it works in 50% of the disks that I create. I have an old Pentium machine that I use for MAKEDISK and also to use APE for Atari 8-bit. Don't throw your old PCs away.
  9. Hi, I've got a 1040STe (4MB) and an Atari SC1435 monitor. I've got a MouseMaster where a Logic3 mouse and 2 Quickjoy joysticks are connected. Don
  10. Yes. Search for MAKEDISK. Copy it to a Windows 98 machine (not too reliable on Windows XP). Use MAKEDISK to write the ST files (*.ST) to a 1.44" disk (preferably a DSDD disk). If a file is in *.MSA, find the software MSATOST to convert it to *.ST. Note that you may need to put a tape on one hole of the 1.44" HD disk for it to work although some of the guys here say that is not necessary. Don
  11. Have the same problem running a PAL 130XE and connected to a TV via A/V. Weird.
  12. The reason I asked for it was because I saw the Paperboy ad in an Antic Magazine. Does that mean that publishers at that time were advertising games for games that are yet to be developed? Oh well I guess my only option is to play the Atari ST version. Thanks, Don
  13. Hi guys, Was there a Paperboy for the Atari 8-bit? If there is, can you post the ATR here? Thanks,
  14. I got hold of an USB-to-Serial cable last weekend, tried it with APE, and it WORKED!
  15. I'll let you guys know if this works. BTW, is there an easy way to distinguish a 360k or a 720k drive 5.25" drive? If I can't find a 360k drive, can I use a 720k drive?
  16. Thanks Steve. You've got a good memory coz that's how I actually removed the mechanism. Now the next task for me is to go to the weekend swap meet and get an old 5.25 disk drive. Cheers, Don
  17. Hi guys, Sorry for being pesistent. :-) Can anyone give a "for dummies" instruction on how to replace an XF551 mech? Looks like I'm going to have to do it as my drive always returns a BOOT ERROR message. TIA, Don
  18. Thanks for the reply guys. I'll see if I can get a parallel interface and try hooking up my Epson inkjet printer. Should be good to be able to print from an old Atari 8-bit computer. Cheers, Don
  19. Hi guys, Is it possible for an Atari 8-bit (with a parallel interface) to print using a current model parallel printer? Thanks, Don
  20. Does anyone know of any website that shows a step-by-step instruction (with photos) on how to do this fix? TIA. Don
  21. To kheffington and TMR, It would be great if you can post the files in a website so we can download. Thanks, Don
  22. @raster/c.p.u. Can you post some info on how you made the S-Video cable? TIA. Don
  23. One of them is the XE-line silver cart (game is One-on-One). I'll try the rubbing alcohol fix and see if it works. I also read from somewhere that a rubber eraser also fixes problems with carts but I haven't tried them yet.
  24. Hi guys, Is it possible to fix a non-working cartridge? I have a couple of cartridges that doesn't work and I notice that these cartridges have rattles inside. I am tempted of opening the carts up coz I don't have anything to lose, they're broken anyway. I just thought maybe the rattles are caused by something on a cart's PCB that was loose and maybe putting it back will make the cart work again. Any ideas? How do you "properly" force open a cart anyway? TIA. Don
