Hi guys, Do you have any Atari 8-bit images that I can use as a wallpaper for my PC? Cheers, Don

My A8 setup: 130XE (with reserves of an 800XL and 3 XEGS) SIO2PC (running on a P133 PC shared with a C64 with XE1541) TV Browsing eBay now for a disk drive and maybe a Commodore monitor... I also have an ST setup consisting of: 1040STe (4MB) SC1435 monitor

Hi, I recently got an 800XL and when I press OPTION on startup, instead of going to the SELF TEST menu, it goes to a SUPERMON page. There's not a great deal of info about SUPERMON on the net except a review in the Atari magazine archives. Can anyone provide more info on how to use it? Cheers, Don

Hi Bry, PM sent. Cheers, Don

Hi Bry, I got the keybord to work by cutting a strip in the keyboard connector. I noticed one of the strips was broken (maybe from being folded too much). But then my problem when I cut a portion of the connector was it was not long enough to reach the socket so I took a plier to bend the metal (at the edge of the RESET button) a little bit. Now my only problem is the LED not working. Can't seem to find a way to remove it. Also thanks for the tutorial on cleaning an 800XL keyboard. Beleted Merry X-mas! Don

I also use a similar monitor cable and share it between my 800XL, 130XE and C64. I haven't had any problems plugging and un-plugging it to use on the different machines.

Thanks Bry. The keyboard that I have is the second one (the mylar). I'll give it the eraser treatment soon. If all else fails, I hope that new sheet from Best Electronics is not that expensive. Getting a spare 800XL is a bit tricky if you live in Australia. Cheers, Don

Hi Bry, My keyboard connector has the clear plastic ribbon connector with painted on conductors. I will try to push it all the way tonight like what bjk7382 suggested. I opened the back of the keyboard (by removing the small screws) and it has the plastic sheet with all the connectors in there. How does it work anyway? The plastic sheet is folded into two then the spring pushes one side to the other sheet and that causes a signal to be sent? I will try re-opening it again, give it a more thorough clean (I would assume a damp cloth is OK with the plastic sheet?). I will probably work on the rust once I'm happy that all the keys are working. Thanks for the fast replies, Don

Hi all, I bought this 800XL advertised in eBay as non-working . After vacuuming the insides and re-attaching the cable from the keyboard, it suddenly worked! Anyways, I still have a couple of problems: First, some of the keys are sticky and no matter how many times or how hard I press them, they don't register on the screen. How do you fix this? Secondly, the metal cover that covers up the ICs and the circuit board have signs of rusting. Is it still possible to revive this like sanding it and repainting it? Also the red LED doesn't light up. But that's not a big deal. Any tips like DOs and DONTs will be appreciated. TIA, Don

Will SIO2PC work with the parallel port?
doncleth replied to doncleth's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Thanks Bry. I've emailed Steve and here's his reply: "APE will not work with the parrallel port. APE requires a real UART based serial port to operate. A USB based RS232 port will not work. Unfortunatly SIO2PC style software requires realtime response from the hardware which USB does not provide. A PCMCIA or CF based serial card may work for you." -
Will SIO2PC work with the parallel port?

Hi Bry. No I haven't asked atariclassics about it. Is he the resident SIO2PC guru (sorry I'm just new to the forum)? Cheers, Don -
Will SIO2PC work with the parallel port?

Thanks Bry. I hope someone with a USB-to-RS232 adapter will be kind enough to test that SIO2PC works with this setup. Thanks, Don -
Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting an SIO2PC cable. I know that it connects to the serial port of the PC however my laptop only has a parallel port. Will SIO2PC work if I get a DB25 to DB9 adaptor? Thanks, Don

G'day krisjohn, Thanks for the reply. if you can dig up that email that details how to fix up or create a custom power supply, that'll be great. Cheers, Don

Hi, I have a similar problem with my power supply ie. the picture rolls. Can the power supply be fixed? Is it worth getting it repaired in an electronic shop or I'll just get a new power supply (from eBay). Any suggestions? TIA, Don

That image didn't work well so I'll just include the link instead. http://jae_lee.tripod.com/other/logic3.html

Hi guys, Just want to ask if anyone knows if the following mouse can be used with the ST. It's being advertised in eBay as an Atari/Amiga mouse but the seller is not sure. http://jae_lee.tripod.com/other/logic3.html Also, does anyone know how to convert an Amiga or Commodore 64 mouse for use in Atari ST? Thanks, Don

Hi, If you mean transferring an ATR file back to a 5.25" disk, here's a link that may help. http://j131atari.webpark.pl/faq1.htm Regards, Don

Hi guys, I am trying to replace the cable of my STM1 mouse. Does anyone know of a website that has the pinout information for the mouse that shows the connection from the 9 pin plug to the PCB of the mouse? My existing mouse has the following wires in order (starting from where the mouse ball is located) in the PCB: Black Red Green Blue Brown Orange Yellow White I hope someone can have a look at their mouse and let me know how these wires are connected to the 9pin plug (I noticed that there are only 8 wires to maybe one of the wires is not used in the 9 pin plug?) Thanks in advance! Don

Thanks for all your reply guys. I'l see if I can grab up that 1084S or 1072 on eBay right now. Bry, thanks also for suggesting that I use the TV. Actually my 130XE and C64 are both hooked up to a TV now via RCA cables. I just like to have an old monitor to make the retro computing more realistic But one final question, how many inputs do these Commodore monitors have? I just had a second thought that if they only have one, then there'll be a lot of cable swapping if I use my 130XE or C64.

Hi guys, The Atari 8-bit FAQ lists a number of Commodore monitor models that will work with Atari 8-bits. In your experiences, which model is the best ones to look out for? Thanks, Don

Thanks guys. Where can I get more info on using the RAMdisk?

Hi guys, What is the benefit of expanding my 1040STe's memory to 4MB? Will programs load faster or play better ie. smoother graphics/scrolling on games? TIA, Don
