The power level of this thread will be OVER 900. Give the VCS another year, and we'll get it to OVER 9000

I should probably stop, but to quote Darth Vader, "All too easy"

I imagine that if Fred shows his "prototype" VCS to Wozniak, Woz might lose his composure (whether it be uncontrollable laughter or just taking the board and tossing it across the room). Could be another episode of comedy in this whole saga. As for the possibility of them showing a real, working board...that would be a surprise only a few weeks after Wyatt quit. I have a feeling at this is to stop the hemorrhaging of El Reg's article. Who's up for a Coleco Chameleon repeat, just this time it'll be a RPi4 in those lovely VCShells? As for the conference, sounds like that Weird Al song personified.

Here's an upcoming console I just heard about (kind of like the Switch, but focused on classic handhelds) that I expect to see available before the Ataribawx: https://www.analogue.co/pocket/

Dragon's Descent - Roguelite/Action game
Shaggy the Atarian replied to Revontuli's topic in batari Basic
Congrats on finishing this. I've been watching the 7800 version development more than this one, but it is tempting to pick up both -
Every time I see that "Ataribawx" sticker, I imagine the new Atari VCS mascot: Chicken tacos, obviously

I think that this is why they are suddenly all extra salty regarding the Amico. Everything about it is better and has been handled the way that Atari should have done it. Now all they have is envy, and what better way to pretend that the superior retro console sucks than to misconstrue and lie about it? I wouldn't expect anything less from the Dupe Squad.

To quote some Shakespeare (far too above the paygrade of Karl & Miguel to grab the reference): Further proving their inability to understand the visuals of the INTV trailer, here are examples of 3D polygons on the Amico (2.5D is talking about the camera perspective, not what the game objects are made out of). Something that I think an 11-year old girl would understand, but not the VCShills (I would also be amazed to see the Jaguar pulling off any of these games in real-time textured 3D, simply because it's impossible to do so. Where people get their ideas on graphics and rendering is often non-scientific)

"We've lost two of our prophets because we didn't bother to pay them, and we put heretics out into digital exile, but rest assured, we'll soon figure out how to make the AskPCB prototype do something more than turn some blinky lights on." Otherwise, best analogy I can come up with is people being so emotionally invested in their sports franchise that they can't turn their backs on it or it is like admitting you are stupid. Atari SA is the Cincinnati Bengals of Atari owners, but because they used to be the Miami Dolphins(Warner Atari), they may perform again via invested hope and magic.

The walls are closing in! Just like Atari's next big announcement!Stay tuned!

I know that's supposedly the PS5 dev kit, but it looks like someone at Sony has been spending a little too much time browsing foot spas on Amazon.

The Spectre Files: Deathstalker (Arcade)
Shaggy the Atarian replied to Shaggy the Atarian's topic in Prototypes
Welcome. I love protos and am glad that this one was finished. If you like the humor that Brian Colin put into his games, this definitely fits...campy comic horror. -
Back in 1984/85, Brian F. Colin was working at Midway. He had already done work on games like Discs of Tron, but with the arrival of the laserdisc arcade machine, he had an idea to put his knowledge of film making to good use. Converting a text adventure game into an FMV one, he spent months on creating a Choose-Your-Own Adventure game by the name of The Spectre Files. This included doing most of the filming in Chicago during one of the coldest Winters on record for the city (and in a building that had electricity, but no heat). When the game was practically complete, Midway saw how the bottom had fallen out of the laserdisc market and canned Brian's project. He recovered quickly by designing Rampage, which you all know became a smash hit, but the Spectre Files footage and materials got stuffed away into storage. Fast forward 30~ years and with all of the remakes and remasters that have been done to games and film, plus a revival of the arcade spirit, Brian remembered the project and began working with Galloping Ghost Productions to resurrect the game and give it a new chance at life. Digitizing the film and finishing the game took a few years, but earlier this year, Galloping Ghost began shipping cabinets to interested buyers, the first unit being located at the Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, IL. The cabinet was patterned after NFL Football, under the assumption that had it not been cancelled, Midway would have reused the same cab design. I'm not sure how many others have picked up the game, but I got my hands on #4 of 10 LE earlier this year (GGP said they would make up to 50 units; I just haven't heard of any additional sales on this since I got mine). It also doesn't use a laserdisc player (thankfully), but runs on a modern computer and looks really good in action. Here's some direct capture footage of the game in action that I recorded last week. It's unlike anything else in the business, although I do wonder if it really would have passed location testing, as once you replay it a few times, you can end up playing for a half hour like I did. Still, it all fits for October: One other note: The woman seen in the screencap is Sharon Perry, an animator at Midway who is credited with coming up with the bow for Ms. Pac-Man, and worked on many of Midway's titles in the 80s. Brian also starred in this as the hippie, the elevator zombie, the Flying Friar, and some other characters. Here's a bonus video I made of it earlier in the year to see additional footage, in case anyone can't get enough.

If Atari delivers a link to their October Medium post of the VCS circuit board to the backers, would that still count as having "fulfilled" the orders? Since that's the only thing they'll actually have seven weeks from now.

As expected, Stefan ignores that for a 2nd time, Atari has lost the company making the thing for them, believes that a couple of props on a table qualifies as "production." Sounds like someone in dire need of a vacation and some Xanax.

Speaking of that, former Digital Eclipse guy putting a call out to devs with Atari SA horror stories. Curt is one, my friend that worked for Human Head is another, and there are many more. Very curious to see if anyone pipes up on this:
