1. Question number 5 - Reproduction is the correct word for it hardware wise. The Flashback 2's main chip is an exact reproduction of 2600 hardware in a single chip format. Case wise, it's of course changed a bit. And yes, the switches changed due to costs. 884631 OK, I've changed the wording of the answers mentioned. Thanks for pointing those things out for me, I knew that there would be a few inncorrect items there.
2. Thanks I'll fix it. Are there any other errors? I typed it up in a hurry and didn't really proofread it afterwards.
3. Hey guys, I just created a little FAQ for the Flashback 2. Take a look at it and let me know what else I can add or correct on it. I think I may have something wrong on the games list (Is Atari Climber still on the list?) so LMK. http://www.staticgamer.com/modules.php?mod...aflashback2_faq
4. (for the Atari 7800 Homebrewerpalooza contest) Pac-Man! Congratulations! It was great to see the participation in the contest and this certainly won't be the last time. The judges responses were varied and interesting. The prizes will be sent out before too long, I will need each participants address as I want to send something to everyone who participated. Thank you!
5. Yes that's exactly it. I guess I worded that incorrectly... Hmm, pre-order at Wal-Mart, not a bad idea
6. Well I was at my local GameStop today and I asked them when they were going to have the FB2 in and they said....August 24th. Of course, when the FB1 was released they also got it in much later than Target, so I'm hoping that's the same case this time around as August seems far away.
7. Either that or include the Homestarrunner RPG on the FB3. That alone would probably sell quite a few.
8. Thanks for the pics Curt! I especially look forward to Yars Return. I'm not sure aobut Caverns of Mars, not because of how the port looks from the pic but since I have yet to play it, so I wouldn't be sure what to expect.
9. I would be willing. I could never believe how much game consoles cost down there. My jaw dropped when I saw the Dreamcast going for R$789.
10. If this has been brought up I apologize but I just got the latest GameInformer mag (Issue 146 with Gears of War on cover) and in the classic GI section they cover the Retro Redux competition for a few pages and then they have a page that has three 2600 game reviews on it, Outlaw, Vanguard and Haunted House. Looking at those entries from the RR competition, they seemed more suited to the 5200/7800/8-bit platforms, but I still thinks it's cool that they had these people trying to create original ideas for the ol' 2600. Sorry I don't have a scan of the articles yet, but it's cool to see.
11. The graphics are a bit weird, but overall it's a cool little site. Can't wait to see the stuff on the FB2. So where's Commander Champion?
12. I'm so glad this contest was created: Tubes (awesome game), Beef Drop (awesome game), Q-Bert (awesome game) Frogger (awesome game) and Pac Man (awesome game) are all now on the 7800! And maybe we'll get lucky and a few more surprises will surface by Sunday. 867478 Hmm, should I? May as well, just so you all know what has been submitted. And of course, I can accept any others up to Sunday. Here's what else has been submitted so far: SpaceWar 7800 Robotfindskitten Combat 1990
13. Meteroids is not a hack 864890 Why am I more excited about the Flashback 2 than the XBOX 2 or PS3? Maybe because I know what it will actually do, when, and for how much? 865011 I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way at the moment.
14. Just a heads up to everyone about the 7800 Homebrewerpalooza Contest. It ends Sunday. Remember, any homebrew, even if it is just a hack will be accepted. Many thanks to all who are participating! If you have a file ready just send along a .A78 file with instructions to my PM box. (I would put this in the contest forum but I figure that most people who are interested in the 7800 read this forum more often than that one.)
15. Well, does Save Mary use extra RAM? It seems like a few titles from the time Atari made Save Mary used extra RAM in them. And about the loss of Thrust -> BattleZone is a nice replacement though. But if Thrust is gone I guess that there will be very few homebrews on the FB2 then, which is really too bad since the homiebrews have been the lifeblood of the system since Secret Quest
16. Dang, no kidding. Just think of it as buying a copy of Thrust+ (for slightly less than the Atari Age store sells it), and then they throw in a console, a joystick, and 40 games for free! 862792 Wow, I love the way your mind works! BEST RATIONALIZATION EVER! Seriously! Now I can't wait to hear that Thrust theme song coming from a real live VCS. (even if it's only 39 "other" games -- many of these are exclusives! and most of them aren't on the paddle controllers! don't be so cheap-- it costs money to play games!) 863014 I wonder how much the whole bundle would cost if we were to separate each game as well as the 2600 with paddles and the A/V mod? I don't know what the average price is these days for a wood grain 2600, but if you were to get every game in cartridge form (and lets imagine the new games showing up on the FB2 as new releases which seem to go for $20-$30 usually), the FB2 package would probably be worth over $100 in the form I'm speaking of. So I definently see it as a great deal. I'm still surprised that there are a few who don't want to pick it up considering the new titles like Yars Return this will include. BTW- Curt or anyone else have a pic of Yars Return yet?
17. I'm part of the crowd that would love to see Atari become a contender in the next gen arena again. I know it's a remote possibilty, but I'd back them up.
18. Hmm, some of that reminds of the NUON processor, but on a much more advanced scale of course. I wonder if NUON helped inspire Sony, Toshiba or IBM to go in that direction with the architechture (TOshiba is a possiblity as they included one in a DVD player of theirs)
19. Thanks for the pics Andy. Yes, there's lots of cool stuff in the works thanks to Curt. Also, so people know - the units on display at E3 are special 10 game units without the special menu. Hence the spartan game listing in the one photo. 858864 I was wondering about that, thanks for the clarification. Well, I hope that the FB2 is a success for Atari. I am really curious to know what else they have planned as far as hardware goes. It's great to have Atari releasing hardware again, even if it is in the form of dedicated systems.
20. mystery games: E.T. & Radiers of the lost ark 858849 oh no not ET (just kidding) Hmm...maybe Solaris and Midnight Magic. I could settle for those. Or maybe Star Raiders and Warlords. Beh, there are too many possibilities! 858853 E.T. Vector 858856 Now there's something I hadn't thought of. Being the sucker for vector games that I am, I'd probably love it.
21. From what Alex H has been saying (in the Homebrew forum) Man Goes Down is not completed yet. And the complete list at ClassicGaming.com doesn't include MGD. They do claim 4 homebrews (and no mention of hacks); I'm not sure what homebrews beyond Thrust and Atari Climber (which I assume is Climber 5?). 858852 Ah, I hadn't dropped by that thread in a while. I guess I should stop being lazy and just check in. Still, if one of the hidden games were homebrews, that would be a nice surprise.
22. mystery games: E.T. & Radiers of the lost ark 858849 oh no not ET (just kidding) Hmm...maybe Solaris and Midnight Magic. I could settle for those. Or maybe Star Raiders and Warlords. Beh, there are too many possibilities!
23. On page 6 of this thread Curt said towards the end of July. Unless that has changed (which I would certainly be happy with...the sooner the better )
24. Here's the only Pong unit I have. I hope to pick up an Atari made one soon.
