  1. For an extra kinky gaming experience, put a Xonox double-ender into two Atari 2600s at the same time.

  2. Finally. SOMETHING. I switched to OpenMSX, and while it has some not insignificant annoyances (you want the system ROMs to be in... Documents?), it does function. I just need to figure out how to set up a proper joystick... that'll come later, I'm sure.
  3. I've been banging my head against a wall trying to get Super Game Module titles to run in a ColecoVision emulator, and all I've got to show for it is a concussion and a bloodied wall. BlueMSX was the first emulator I tried... I expected that to run without issue, but the Super Game Module isn't available in the drop down list of machines. You can download the file separately from the BlueMSX site, but even when you unzip it and put it in the "machines" folder, it just refuses to come up. Next up is GearColeco. In contrast with BlueMSX, it's got a simple, intuitive interface, but it won't run Super Game Module games, despite the creator's claims of compatibility. There's nothing in the readme that explains HOW to make those games run, and naturally, the creator DrHelius can't be reached via email... only Twitter, which I no longer use after the Musk-pocalypse. I wouldn't even need to contact him if there was a useful tutorial included with the emulator, but evidently instructions are like Kryptonite to the makers of emulators. Finally there's CoolCV, from AtariAge's own Nanochess. It actually will run SGM games without much fuss, but it's an extremely bare-bones program, without a user interface and with the expectation that you drag ROM files over the CoolCV icon. I'm sorry, but it's 2024. I need menus. I need to be able to select and change options without tapping random function keys and hoping for the best. If anyone knows how to make the first two emulators run Super Game Module titles, I'd love to be let in on the secret. Google has been no help at all, which should probably be their motto at this point. (Remember when Google was the leading search engine and didn't just coast on a reputation it no longer deserves? Pepperidge Farms etc. etc.)
  4. Hot damn. Yes, I would like this very much. What's the ETA on its completion? (I guess I should keep my expectations in check, as you seem to be working on a dozen projects at any given moment.)
  5. Does this emulator come with an interface of any kind? Dragging files onto the emulator to get them to start is not really the way I'd like to use this. I'd use BlueMSX instead, but that comes with its own frustrations.
  6. I keep reading "DS9" and think this is somehow related to Star Trek.

This idea's already getting a Frosty reception.   Based on the blowback so far,  I wonder if they'll even do it.  If they do,  people will go elsewhere.  I don't think it's something that will catch on and be copied...It will only hurt them.  Just like I was telling my sister the other day when comparing Taco Bell and Del Taco.  Taco Bell is shrinking the sizes,  (And sometimes raising prices and shrinking things (new smaller Mexican Pizza if it even still exists))...And I am a fan of Taco Bell;  but Del Taco simply raised prices,  No screwing around,  no mind games, the sizes are still big and Awesome!  Del Taco is clearly superior!  Wish we had one here instead of 90 miles away!

My guess is people will get mad and they may lose a small number of customers for a short time... the vast majority probably won't have any idea they're doing it. 5 years from now everyone will be doing it and forget what it was like before.

@BydoEmpire Could be...And that's the fear.   Vote with your dollars.  A smarter thing for them to do would be to run a late night sale or something...(IDK,  though,  I don't think Wendy's around here stay open late...That's why everyone goes to Taco Bell...(And because it's better ;)

  7. Whose idea was it to turn Yar's Revenge into a slightly wonky Panzer Dragoon game, anyway?

Thanks,   I've never heard of that.  And considering even the game down below on YouTube is Yars' Revenge from 1981...Well it looks neat enough,  but why in Hell call it Yars' Revenge?  Which already exists...And that reboot could have just been its own game since it has nothing I can see from Yars' Revenge anyway!

  8. There's a Virtual Boy emulator for the 3DS now, and let me tell you somethin', Virtual Boy games work astonishingly well on the 3DS. They fit like a glove. It's as good as actually playing them on a Virtual Boy.

This might make me reconsider my decision to not replace my 3DS XL, which recently died

Turned out my 3DS survived the fall after all! I've installed Red Viper and it's quite impressive.

  9. Thanks for sharing these games, but I do wonder why there are Atari 2600 versions of games that had previously been exclusive to the Emerson Arcadia. What was UA, anyway?
  10. In 1989, Atari released Secret Quest, as the 2600's answer to The Legend of Zelda. This was a comical overreach, on par with Dhalsim stretching his arms across the world just to scratch his back. Despite this, Secret Quest was still a better game than any of the Swordquest titles.

  11. Maaaan, thrifting sucks these days! I went out to Sierra Vista today, and you know what I found? Paper envelopes for CDs and DVDs. Whoo freaking hoo. What the heck happened to the video games? I thought the collecting bubble finally burst, but you wouldn't know it from looking!
  12. I might as well ask here... does anyone have a moderately powerful GPU that they're no longer using and need to get out of their house? I'm thinking of a GTX 970 or higher... something that ranks a 9000+ score on Passmark. I'm finding that my tastes in Steam games seem to lean toward the kinds of titles that don't require much power... but the GTX 750 I'm using in my build isn't cutting it for Street Fighter V on 1080p. Let me know, thanks!
  13. It really sucks collecting Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis games. Every third party for those two systems decided, "Eh, why make our cartridges look like all the other ones?" And you've got weird sides and ends on your cartridge that you can't put with the first party ones. Damn it, Imagic and EA.

I'm cool with Imagic carts, at least they stack nicely. Now, let's talk about the bane of my existence a.k.a. M-Network. :P

    3. DragonGrafx-16

      DragonGrafx-16

Other than EA and Accolade all Genesis games use the OEM Sega shells (Not Sonic & Knuckles, obviously lol)... nowhere near as bad as 2600. And at least the EA and Accolade carts are the same height as the OEM carts and so can stack with them.

  14. Well, that sure makes the Time Pilot originally released for the ColecoVision look like crap. I initially had misgivings about an expansion for the ColecoVision too, but it's here, it's existed for over ten years, and it's been well supported for those ten years. If you don't want a Super Game Module, you don't have to buy one... but you're not going to get the best possible version of Time Pilot, either.
  15. Hm. I'll have to make a mental note of this. I just updated, thinking it would get rid of an onscreen nag but that it wouldn't have affect my flash drive. Shows what I know! So this is Linux only, then? Is it easy to use once you're in Linux?
  16. Wait, is that the Gen X Grown-Up guy? I watch your YouTube videos!
  17. Heh, I've heard of this guy. What convinced you to move from the Sega Genesis to the Intellivision? (Please don't port the planned INTV game Curse to the Intellivision.)
  18. Uh, how does this work? Are these just ports written from scratch, code conversions, hardware emulation, or what?
  19. There absolutely needs to be more Atari Lynx games. It's ridiculous that the killer apps for this system were not included. If you have to make a deal with the Bridgestone, the current owners of the Epyx IP, just make it happen. If you have to charge more money for the DLC, I'll pay it. I'm not picky.
  20. Dang, he was only a year older than I am? Shocker. I thought those guys were at least ten years older than me, particularly Ed Semrad.
  21. Konami Arcade Classics on PSOne has got to be up there. You would think that such a diverse collection of games on such an advanced system would be emulation, but no! They're ports! I couldn't believe it myself, but the Retro Core guy says they are!
