  1. Just for the record, that's all ingame graphics, except maybe 3 seconds. I've just completed it and it looks that good. The parts with the crosshair are just the ghost-combat scenes. The third person mountain climbing and village exploration is the normal view. This is such a great game, I like it even better than some of the later RE games, e.g. Zero and Nemesis. So cursed mountain was good or no? It's been popping up on Amazon for pretty cheap here and there and it didn't sound terrible.. nor did it sound exceptional either. The premise was unique though. At least no mansions of deranged scientists and megacoporations creating an infected zombie horde. Hex. [ actually had a discussion on figuring out how zombies even work, and decided a cheap weapon would be to convince zombies that they logically cannot even move in the first place. ]
  2. Bump 1... I'll post some pics if that's of any use here. Hex. [ Just is burning out from classes... ]
  3. Very cool item... I've already overextended this month and I have ditched all my turntables... But have this free bump! Hex. [ remembers his Muppet Show Fan club Flexi-disc... too bad it didn't survive my childhood. ]
  4. I may have gotten a clue on this today... I was teaching my lab section and one of the students has a portable USB laptop drive that he stores all his stuff on. It wasn't behaving well, and then it went beep. In a similar way that my 360 went beep. I'm very surprised that it was coming from a hard drive, but the behavior and tone were dead on. Soo... it's possible that my 20GB drive is going bye-bye a little early. What are my options here? Obviously the MS brand drives are super overpriced for a lot of nothing. And I really am not big on paying out for DLC items so there's not a ton on my drive. I do want to transfer off the saves though and my profile as it stands. Am I just stuck paying too much for a tiny hard disk and that's the end of the story? Hex. [ Isn't panicing yet... everything is still working... ]
  5. The PM has been sent Houston... Hex. [ Knows Brad doesn't live in Houston... It just sounded good right then and there. ]
  6. To move things a little more on topic... Dino, are you planning to dump the cart to compare it to the one Phantom picked up, or is it pretty much a foregone conclusion that the ROM contents are identical? I know there are some folks who are really into this kind of thing, I'm just more a curious onlooker on the matter than anything else. Regardless, I hope you get your new item safe & sound. If the lone batch of repros that were produced didn't exist, I sure wouldn't own one. That's a ton of cash for any one game in my world. Hex. [ Definitely does quantity over rarity in many cases... ]
  7. Actually, I meant that I'm sorry that you're having these problems on the family front. I sent you a PM concerning the Neo-Geo lot. I'm interested. Hex. [ Is about to get back to the joy of layout in about an hour... fUn... ]
  8. Also a general agreement here with the original poster. However, I disagree with the comparisons across platforms statement. It's been done for as long as the console fan first proclaimed one system to be better than all others and why. Usually over ports -- because you at least then have something apples to apples like -- but not always. Perhaps that's why it's so prevalent on the Wii... not enough apples and the controller lacks two thumbsticks in many cases. <shrug> It's also interesting that the GCube was also called 'kiddy' despite having mature titles such as Eternal Darkness, Killer 7, and of course the reissues of Resident Evil. The same thing can be said about the Wii. No more Heroes 1 & 2, Madworld, Red Steel, The Conduit, Dead Space Extraction, House of the Dead, Resident Evil... Sure they're 3rd party titles, in a majority of cases, but there's not a lot of 'kiddy' in Madworld, No More Heroes, and Killer 7. It's a convenient label to slap on the Wii. It sticks for at least one reason in my mind: Namely that it's a great way for Nintendo to target the non-mainstream gamer market. They've typically geared themselves to be family friendly and made a good chunk of money doing it. Why stop now? As for the fad part, the Wii has lost some of its luster over the past year for me, but I don't view it as a crappy system, there's still some things that the PS/360 just don't have implemented well and that's okay I'm happy with the little white slab. Hex. [ This silicon level circuit design thing is just getting tired... ]
  9. Hate to say it, but this is old news. I've occasionally gone looking for a frame of reference on what to pay/sell an item for and that disclaimer on their used stuff has been there for years. What frightens me more as of late is all the generic cases I see for the previous gen systems (XBox, PS2, Gamecube). What gets me is they don't differentiate price in relation to what they're selling. Just continue to not give them money and maybe the folks at corporate will get a clue. HA! corporate... clue... I kill me. Hex. [ Tends to use Gamestop as a place to make a 'shopping list' of games I'll buy new on Amazon for less. I'm a smartie EvERy day... ]
  10. Every once in a while during gameplay. If you do a google search, you can find a few forums where people are having this happen but like I said above, half of the replies are "It's a bomb", "your 360 is sentient", "mine died soon after", etc... It's happened while I'm playing games and while on the dashboard. But nobody has come back with a diagnosis on what's causing it to happen. If the system wasn't so failure prone and all the void warranty stickers, I'd just bust this baby open and fix it proper. <sigh> I'm thinking about adding a 120V fan to suck air out of the case to help get the temperature even further down. Since everything involves KNex I can cage the fan up pretty easily. Hex. [ Unfortunately, few problems are truly solved with cheesecake... ]
  11. Well, I was gonna send my sympathy & interest via PM... but... Kevin's inbox is full up. I'm also interested in the Neo Geo CD lot. Can you send me a list of the titles included via PM after you've sorted through your inbox? Sorry to hear that this is happening regardless man. Hex. [ Is at a loss concerning this... ]
  12. Well, its time for another gripping episode of "What the heck is going on here!?" After playing games on the 360 I picked up a while ago I've been really getting into it. Now the unit occasionally beeps. Nothing bad happens. It just beeps nor can I correlate it with anything meaningful in terms of what could cause it. I did a Google search and found other reports of the problem occurring, but nothing meaningful in terms of the root cause. That and the various smart ass remarks that after similar post 15 I was having the urge to use a hammer on forum users. Anyway, I have two guesses as to what's happening, but maybe someone here can help narrow things down. My first guess is that a fan is starting to seize up and the system is saying "Alert! a fan has stopped turning or is turning at below the threshold speed. The other guess is that it's an over temperature alarm. I'd buy into this, but the system continues to operate normally regardless of the beeping. I also have my system out in the open where it has adequate room to 'breathe'. The beeping is clearly not anything like a singing capacitor or a bum hard disk. I've had enough experience with both to know those noises. Anyone else having this happen on AA? Even though the diagnosis is sketchy, the problem is real. I figure the answer will crop up eventually. Sounds like something from the X-Files. Hex. [ Has spent a ton of money on gaming stuff... Curse you addictive behavior! ]
  13. Well, I broke down and picked up a copy of Rock Band for myself and I have GH Guitars for my PS2. So since I'm going to need some space (again)... A brand new Wii version of Guitar Hero 3 with new guitar controller in it's unopened box. I'm asking $50 + shipping -- which is less than what I paid for it. Also got a Ghostbusters statue from the Amazon exclusive Slimer edition of Ghostbusters. I've only opened the box to inspect its contents. It is still in the packing baggies and styrofoam. It's a pretty good sized piece. About 10" tall and has a good heft to it. I'm just not into Ghostbusters all that much. $30 + shipping. Trades for interesting things are always good... Hex. [ Whee! I get to play System-Administrator again! ]
  14. Oh No! The message it will go! Go-go PM-Zilla! Hex. [ Has roughly half a dot of Rock Band skill... ]
  15. Resurrecting an old thread... Since this has hit the $20 mark on Amazon, I opted to snag it. I did a marathon session of about 6-7 hrs yesterday and have had fun exploring the worlds in the game, modifying vehicles to meet a variety of needs. Once you score the high-grip tires from beating the witch the first time that helped a ton as far as maintaining control of the vehicle, the other thing has been for me widening my wheel base to up the stability. The taxi level is easier if you have two passenger seats on your vehicle -- all you have to do is keep the passengers from falling out. Hence the stability issue I mentioned earlier. Getting the Jiggy was easy. Getting the speed Trophy was a pain. Other notes: Propellers on land will bump your speed and 'hang time' so you can truck at a good clip underwater and you glide a bit if you pop off a hill or ramp too. Do not mix standard and high grip wheels on your drive wheel pair. You get wonky control and you'll likely spin out a lot. Engines, fuel tanks, and ammo pods are stackable. You can always reduce weight a little bit by using light body parts in less vulnerable locations and heavier parts where damage is more likely to occur. Stack a box on your trolley cart in town to get a little more reach to higher places. The Jingo search quests have a timer, but no serious limit. You can always run around and look for the item, and then restart the quest after you find it. It'll make your time better. I don't know if it buys you anything, but it's a pretty easy thing to make the game go smoother. The Egg Launcher is your friend in the early stages. Use it in the first witch fight for a quick win. Keep revs on your blueprints when possible. Some mods just don't work out. Hope to play some more tonight before bed. Hex. [ has really had enough of this schoolwork crap... bleah! ]
  16. I did HDMI on my 360 and it does look really nice. I also try to keep my eyes open for good prices on cables. It was a lucky hit for a friend of mine and I when I picked up two $4 Wii component video cables (Nintendo brand) at Toys R Us. I don't know why they charge $25 for a video upgrade now other than that they can. Also, Monoprice is excellent in the bang for your buck category. I bought a few flat style HDMI cables from them and they work great. They are a little stiff, so I have to be careful when moving things about. At around a buck a foot of cable, I can cope with that. As a side note, they at least used to have a nice price on component video for the PS2 as well. Sure it's a 9 year old machine, at least you can see every pixel with decent clarity. As for Monster brand cables, I wholeheartedly agree. The only reason to buy them is if you can get them at a deep discount that makes the price comparable to what you'd pay for a nice average cable. That's how I got some nice Monster S-Video cables for my N64 and Gamecube. Digital video does simplify the interface a bit and other than the fact that there is probably some DRM in the format, it's great. Honestly, I can't tell the difference between the video quality of my Wii with that of the 360. Just my opinion -- get HDMI if you can and your TV supports it, else component video is a very reasonable solution that works quite well. Hex. [ Okay, this was fun... I guess I should get back to writing my paper again... ]
  17. Sadly, I'm not sure I can name 10 that are exceptional must buy items... Lumines (not 2. 2 is annoying with those damned music videos interspersed in the game.) Untold Legends (either one) Katamari Island (the barrel is already scraping) Persona (far cheaper and better looking than the PS1 predecessor) Castlevania uhmmm.... I own more than that, but it's not coming to me. I really gotta hack mine one of these days. Hex. [ Also needs to fix his Wii homebrew channel flub. <sigh> ]
  18. Guilty as charged. The rest of my life has really taken over any significant activity on CTCW/GG. There is a stack of things accumulating that are ready to be sold. Some will be the last fandango for them. (My K'Nex Stand) While I too liked the old name, I would occasionally mention the site to younger gamers and the response was this incredulous inflection. Almost as if I were describing an Internet meme. In that context, Mike's choice makes perfect sense. What has been a real turnoff from a buying perspective is some of the sellers that are asking DP level prices for their stuff and insist that it's worth that. When I poked at the original Game Gavel that was the apparent stance of the sellers there. There's still some bargains to be had at acceptable prices -- and when I spot them, I bid, but the signal to noise ratio is looking pretty sad. <shrug> Also, I've gotta full on agree with Jess on the "Don't ever sell it to E-Bay" comment. Competition is good... it keeps folks generally pretty honest. Lastly, I like the scheme for breaking the categories out, but at the same time it's kind of a pain. I'd like to see a "see everything under this category", "see all software", and "see all hardware" options if possible. It's not huge but digging into a category with 10 entries or less just makes me wonder if it's worth digging through. I'd also like to filter out a few sellers from my searches. They weren't horrible transactions to merit any serious complaints, but I'm avoiding them in the future as a general rule. Hex. [ Does not like the HEAVY use of stock photos that EBay is seeing now. You really don't know what you're gonna get... ]
  19. I've been playig Raiden Fighter Aces for the past couple of days... Oh... I am so horrible at this game. And then the game told me so. The achievement: Shot down 256 times excluding your last fighter. <Doh!> Still, I've gotten a little better at the games, but clearing them is currently not in the cards anytime soon. Raiden 4 is tempting though. Hex. [ Needs to print off some diagrams... fun! ]
  20. I think they just keep reworking the same game and story multiple times. I cleared the GBA version, and have the Sega CD version ready and waiting to play. To put that scene in context: female singers from across the land are being kidnapped. Kyle (the dark complected guy with a sword) winds up being the bait in an effort to flush the kidnappers out. Why they didn't use the female characters, I guess some comic relief really. The graphics on that version shown look nice, but I don't need another copy of the same game. Hex. [ It's like Chrono Trigger for the Snes and PS1; do I NEED another copy? ]
  21. Finally took my machine online... Hex65000 Hex. [ Was actually going to use 'Hexxy' for my tag, but there's a guy in the UK with that one. Such is life. ]
  22. I did my share of online multiplayer back in the days of Unreal Tournament and Quake 3... I suspect the one reason my 360 languishes so much over here is that the huge focus on multiplayer really means that there's not much for me to really pick from the library. Remove other genres like FPS shooters, and realistic racers and that list shrinks once again. What's really sad is that when friends do come over, I'm typically at a loss as to what we should play that is multiplayer. This trend plus the digital download only trend will probably get me completely out of the modern gaming scene more than anything else. Or my hands are crushed in a freak accident. That would get me out of gaming. Hex. [ The cat is finally content with her warm spot. I can't feel my arm. Help! ]
  23. I for one generally like the DC controller, but I also know that with extended use it would start to be uncomfortable to play because the joystick nub had ground enough skin away to be painful. As far as the analog design is concerned, I always found it to be pretty solid. The D-pad is a wash though and the controller should have seen a second analog stick. Kind of like the XBox "Duke" controller :] Extension cables for the controllers has become a requirement in this house. Picked up a few for a good price on the Chuckwagon a few months back. My only complaint now is that the games don't universally support the higher-res VGA output. I SO wanted to play Vigilante 8 in high(er) def for the fun of it. Oh well. S-Video will do. It's not the end of the world. Hex. [ dangit! where's the cat!? ]
  24. Perhaps one of the few reasons I still keep my original GBA around... I do think it was pretty novel, but finding cards nowadays is tough. I'd like to fill in more of my Animal Crossing and Pokemon E-Reader cards, but it's such a crapshoot when you come across such things. As far as usage goes... I don't use it often. It's one of those "Nintendo is experimenting" items... like the Virtual Boy. :v] Hex. [ Now that someone knows what I want to do... perhaps I can let the project die in the ditch a proper death. ]
  25. I've bought a ton of stuff from Jess. Everything was as expected, and he even puts up with long rambly messages from me that sometimes even have a point. Always an awesome guy with very reasonable prices. Thanks man! Hex. [ Has realized he can't type worth a damn tonight.. it's really getting tired. ]
