The Genesis 2 has at least a stripped down Z-80 part inside. It's not marked as a Z80, but a different number I think (I'm doing this from memory). But there is proper sound support on the Gene2. Hex. [ The miracle and the loooooney... ]

This is an experiment I tried with one of my 2600s that had a bad CMOS inverter. I soldered a wire to ground and then measuring with a meter tried to pull down the inputs on the IC. If the output was inverted all is well. You may try something similar on your unit. Although, be smarter than I was about it. Toss a 330 ohm R between your test points and ground. That way if you short something it's not a dead short (bad thing). You can also try the same technique with one end tied to +5V, but put a 1kohm in series with your test wire, Some ideas that worked for me. Hex. [ Will I accomplish ANYTHING today? ]

I agree that Sony will not let thier PSP become another N-Gague. I saw a couple of semi interesting titles on that inital release list, but nothing that said I must buy one now. I'm more inclined to get the DS just to have another Mr. Driller. (which looks a lot like Mister Driller Ace for the GBA) Even then that's $180+ gone right there. People will buy the PSP in droves. Sony has pretty much pre-programmed them through the hype. My argument is that I don't think Sony can build durable hardware if thier lives depended on it. Nor have they accounted for the abuse that a 10yr old kid will inflict on their hardware and media. Perhaps they are banking on that abuse. Hex. I might be able to help you. I'm sure I have a complete NES toaster oven deck floating around with the 72pin replacement connector already inside. Included is pretty much the standard load out (2 ctrlers(orig), gun(orig), power brick(3rd party-new)) The exception is the video cables. I have a pair of very generic 5' RCA cables that you can use for composite video/mono audio. Also at your option I'll throw in a two commons from my stacks. Everything has been cleaned and tested to the best of my ability inside and outside and I expect that it will serve you well. Its asking price is $35. I'm a bit on the high side in comparison to a thrift, but still at least $10 cheaper than the big chains for a deck. Not to mention the lack of dirt means that you don't have to clean it yourself. Many excellent points. I'll simply toss in my own behavior patterns and make of it what you will. The Star Wars analogy is adquate, but I feel that it strikes better with the Transformers series of toys. (A line I love ever so and when I have actual money collect pretty rabidly.) The problem occurs when you get that toy and it is in one mode out of two or more possible modes. What do you do? Keep it in the box where its 'resale value' will be much more than a loose figure? Or do you open it and actually transform the toy, getting to know the mechanical intracasies(sp!) of the peice and enjoying the stimulation it brings to you and your imagination? The similarity is this: you can leave the Transformer or the game in the sealed box and say you have the item, but until you have opened the box, you have not experinced the item. I like having boxed Transformers (I have many), but to not have a loose one is not doing the toy justice. IMO, the same thing applies to cartridge gaming. I will strive to have the nicest cartridge in the best box I can find -- typically, once I have a box and a book that's decent it becomes very subjective as to me upgrading my collection and that game will either be purchaced because it's good trade bait, is obviously better than my own copy, or I forgot I owned a copy (done this too many times to count. ) However, I dont actively seek out sealed cart games, in the majority of cases. In most cases I'd want to open it and you could hear people having heart attacks across the country. Unless it's ET maybe. I have a simple solution for your repro-label problem: Print it in a way that is obviously not from the original. For example: I have a couple of N-64 games where the front sticker is gone. Way gone. My solution was to find a good picture of the sticker, size it up to about the size of where the sticker goes and print it on my black and white laser printer. This way there is no question about it being an original item, but merely a resonable reproduction to give the user the ability to (mostly) enjoy the cover art. Of course through complete deception you could always say otherwise. I've considered doing this for some of my front labels that are MIA. It's better than nothing and clear it's not an original part. Also, it's been hinted at here, but have you cleaned your cartridge contacts thoroughly? Q-tips and alchohol are the best route there. Hex. What interested me more was the one that took any video input and would convert the output to a VGA monitor. That level of flexability seems logical as opposed to a special box for each system. In fact you could probably use the A/V selector that is geared towards composite video. On a semi-related note, Nintendo sells a component video cable set, but are apparantly on backorder until March? Hex. [ It is all ever so truly ambitious... ]

I've said it before, so I'll keep it short... I'm not motivated to buy and properly outfit another platform at this point. I have _SO_ much to look at for the current / previous gen platforms that I can't justify it. Maybe later, but I plan to put my money towards all that 'obsolete' stuff that I didn't want to shell out big bucks for. And a couple of spare decks wouldn't be a bad idea either. Hex. [ ... I am interested in your findings on this. Especially because I have extra 17" monitors taking up space. The Dreamcast VGA box does look nice there is the downside of it being at a 60Hz refresh rate. On an LCD I doubt that it would be as huge a deal, but on a proper CRT, you prolly would feel fatigue a bit faster. Those breakout boxes look pretty cool I must say. Then you have to figure out how to break the video output of the console out properly. That may be the hardest part. I have never seen RGB video cables for any of the current gen consoles. I'm sure they exist somewhere, but it does not appear to be really common. Hex. [ No matter how I push it around... ]

Thanks for the heads up, I bought three of those units while they are still available (2 without the woodgrain sticker). You might consider picking up one of those for spare parts. As for the ones without stickers, I'm thinking a 'gameskin' like solution for at least one of them. Lastly, can you post schematics for your various adapters? Mini projects are cool! Hex. If the deck is in good working order $35 is very reasonable. Just remember to clean your contacts before doing any marathon playing. While it's generally agreed that the chain stores are a rip-off, I have seen them selling basic decks starting at $40 without any games at all (not even mario/duckhunt) Lastly, invest in a new connector. If the one in it is okay now, you'll want it for when it craps out later. Hex. [ Wonders what punishment would be appropriate for the designer of that stupid connector. ]

The time when emulation is its handiest for me are one of these conditions: Space Constraints or its so horribly rare that I have no reasonable hope of finding it. In those cases with older games I don't feel so bad. The glaring example for me is the NES. I have about 50 carts to my name. Some are uncommon or refused to emulate well. The rest I really don't care if I own the originals or not. I really don't play NES games very often, I'm not really sure why. Of course, the other niceity is try before you buy. I did that with Biker Mice from Mars for the SNES. It gave me a reasonable idea of what the game would be like when I finally came across a copy. Emulation has it's definate uses, but can be abused just as easily. Hex. [ Impact is imminent... ]

Thanks from me too on the good spot. I picked up a copy of Advance Wars 2 as well. I did poke around to see if there was anything else worth my time. I considered Bomberman, and may go back for that one, everything else was just the same overpriced crap really. As for 'demon customers' I'm prolly more 'medium evil. I want to be left alone as I look for stuff. I will only run them around if I see something worth a price check, and strangely it always seems to check at ~$50 That's not intentional. The last thing I bought at a Worst Buy was Final Fantasy Chronicles. ($20) I then found it later that week for a fraction of the price. Since I didn't open it and had my receipt, back it went. end of story. I'm sure we'll see restocking fees more often and other BS tactics. Look, It goes over there. The new Starfox Assault and Xenosaga 2 games look pretty cool. However, neither look $50 cool by any stretch of the imagination. As I've mentioned before I've got plenty to play while I wait for the price to drop. Not to mention my want list of stuff that is available... Hex. [ Just not in that much of a hurry anymore... ]

I've recently been picking up a few of the light gun games for the PSx and I have an untested Guncon 1. The question is though, where can I get a decent light gun that either supports all three of the PSx formats or a Konami gun? Lastly, does anyone have a decent picture/link to what the Guncon 2 is supposed to look like. I just waded through a bunch of Epay auctions and I know there were a bunch of 'compatable with GC2' accessories, but what does the real thing look like out of the box? The other gun I have is a Nyko that does double duty with the Saturn and PSX. I can't get it to do anything useful on the Playstation though. It works well when I play Virtua-cop tho. So far I have: - Time Crisis - Time Crisis : Project Titan - Gunfighter with Jesse James - Lethal Enforcers 1&2 - Crypt Killer BTW, does anyone have some good leads on a complete Menacer unit including the goofy pack-in cart?
