  1. Yes, but you have to use the mixing cable. The audio from the Genesis won't go to the CD without it. The audio from the CD will go to the Genesis, but not the other way around. The mixer cable was SEGAs workaround so you could use the audio out from the CD for the whole Franken-console. Genesis will always process its own audio. The CD will process its own audio if using its outputs. If you use only Genesis outputs, the Genesis will process the CDs audio. The mixing cable enables each component to process its own audio and use a single set of RCA cables for output.
  2. The mixing cable let's the CD process it's own audio, otherwise the Genesis will be doing it. While this isn't too bad for early Gen 1s, you're losing clarity on any of the rest.
  3. That's an idea, although there is a part of me that will want a complete set of those since they look different than the US ones. They have solid colors for each cart instead of the uniform beige we got over here.
  4. So it looks like I need to find a copy of Super Blockbuster to complete the set. Which seems silly since I don't have an actual working unit anyway, but that's what the voice in my head tells me I need to do.
  5. The one thing that keeps me from attending these types of events is the cover charge. A Retropalooza ticket was $25 for a Saturday, and the Gaming Expo was $35 for a Saturday. Add $10 to take my 6 year old, and I'm $35 in the hole before I even start to look for a game to buy.
  6. I thought it was a separate title, learn something new every day. So is the entire collection 11 games?
  7. A good printer can be had for $80. I don't know anyone's financial situation, that may be too much for many people's budget. The ink is the most expensive part of the modern printer, if you buy name brand ink it averages around $3000 per gallon. I buy bulk generic cartridges off e-bay and save tons of money. Instead of $11 for a black and $10 for each of the three color, I pay $16 for 6 of each cartridge. Sorry, this got way off topic.
  8. I picked up the bookcases on Craigslist for $5 and gel stained them. The DVD cases were $10 for 100 on E-Bay. I use a basic ink-jet Brother printer with discount inkjet paper and a cutter I got on sale from Michael's. $30 in supplies total for the cases and shelving.
  9. The main flaw with my setup is the lack of manuals. But we use phone/tablet and internet if we need help with a game's instructions.
  10. Very few people who come into the game room have ever even heard of it. They usually stare politely when I explain what it is. This thread reminds me, does anyone have the Shooting Star cart? It's the only one I don't have for the system.
  11. We call our Genesis setup the Franken-console. A Gen 1 Genesis, 32-X, and Gen 2 CD. It's modded for S-Video and we love it. I burned all of the games onto Litescribe CD's, made custom inserts and used thin DVD cases. I have all but 3 or 4 since they didn't play very well. The entire collection fits on 6 shelves of a small bookcase. The orange ones are 32-X CDs.
  12. I am very excited by this thread. I loved my Microvision when I was younger and hate that the two I own both suffer from screen rot. Now it's just a wall display.
  13. Thanks for the supporting posts and subscriptions! We have 3 more videos posted, two of which apply to things here:
  14. Actually, we filmed in the afternoon. Unfortunately, I forgot to turn on the mic and we had to do a second take. I come from the old school way of only having one box open at a time and not opening another until it's gone. We stored all of the cereal from the video in ziploc bags and aren't half way through them. She prefers oatmeal and waffles and we both didn't want to look at cereal for about a week after filming.
  15. Thanks to the whole thread for sharing info I never would have known.
  16. If you have 2 players, Maze Craze is a blast. Ice Hockey is also pretty fun.
  17. Our weekly video is up, this one is features a more detailed look at the classic.
  18. Thanks. I did it with both on easy, with the left on B the dragons hesitate before biting, making it easier to get away from them. Since I never had the sword, the right switch deciding whether they run from it or not didn't come into play.
  19. I just did it in 39 seconds on level one, and I was curious how that compared to everyone on here. Here is the video of the run on my channel:
  20. I hadn't thought of this. Changes the way I view this and other threads like it entirely. Thanks for shining a light for me.
  21. Thanks, I wanted transparency. More importantly, I didn't wan't to tick anyone off from this community since I've gotten so much information and advice here.
