Sunnyvale Atari Party on Saturday, June 14, 2014
galax replied to Lynxpro's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Even better- auto boot into a launcher for all of your hard disk games, with nice descriptions in the menu. Now using the ST would be just like a multicart- reset and choose game. The purists would probably still complain about the multicart. Has anyone written a launcher like this? It would be easy to do. -
Epson HX-20 saved from the trash

Looks like a good machine. The demo makes me wish I'd hung onto the Kaypro II I was given a bit longer. I think I got that to display a Mandelbrot set in about 4 hours or something. We could have started a demo crew. -
LC Technologies StereoTek 3D glasses
galax replied to Gunstar's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
The Oculus Rift just accepts DVI Input, if the ST arranges the picture correctly, and the RGB converts to DVI OK, it should be possible, and for probably not much more than the cost of those StereoTek glasses. Might have to forgo the head tracking though... -
CosmosEx (new ST upgrade/peripheral from Jookie)
galax replied to DarkLord's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
A few months ago he estimated 65 Euros plus the cost of the Raspberry Pi which is about half that again. It's a cheaper, more compact, elegant solution for those that haven't already got all three floppy/HD/network interfaces. Should offer much higher network speeds too. The single point of failure is a $30 Raspberry Pi. A lot more flexibility about disk formats, and the possibility of network access to the ST's drive; copy or backup stuff remotely without touching the device. He's also considered tapping into the keyboard interface, to allow USB Mice and Keyboards to appear to the ST as native keyboards, no drivers etc. I think many people will find an excuse to relegate their existing devices to the second machine or something, at that price and with the possible features it offers it will be hard to resist. As I mentioned on the other forum, if the Pi can read the ST's keyboard and mouse, and can output its own sound and video, emulating the whole machine in and ST box with HDMI out would just be a matter of software. The ST is relegated to just being a USB power supply, keyboard, and mouse interrface. Horrible idea really, although it would be kind of cool to be able to rescue an old broken 520ST from the garbage and convert it to a 1080p TT or Falcon without causing any damage to the machine. -
That's probably the best option, someone should bulk order the connectors and put together a kit...

Should be a spec sheet for the PC PSU that that lets you know if there is a recommended minimum load on any of the outputs- would they all even be used by the ST? I'd also be worried about that PSU being capable of delivering much more current if something shorts. For the external ST supply, of course be very careful around the capacitors, 1 hand rule, and safely discharge them (I.e. Not with a screwdriver) if possible, etc. would your on/off switch move to that box too?

My cheapo 2 year old LG monitor works with 50Hz. To switch my PC to 50Hz I had to this I had to uncheck "Hide modes that this monitor can display, the monitor's on-screen info confirmed the change. I don't know how common this is.

The description claims "Auto 50/60Hz scan rate conversion. " which is a bit vague but promising... I think I'll try one out.

I noticed this scanline doubler "15Khz RGB RGsB RGBS to VGA Scan Line Doubler Converter" on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/310413209763 It mentions 'Atari' and 15khz in the description, any idea if it has a chance of working with an ST? Obviously I'd have to make up a cable to give it the ST's RGB output.

It's official, Atari Inc did create a Dual 7800 ProLine Joystick Coupler
galax replied to Lynxpro's topic in Atari 7800
Just a couple of recent examples of hacking different controllers together, those are Atari 9-pin DIN joystick ports on an Xbox 360 controller (for Sensible Soccer) and an iCade cabinet (for Llamatron games) -

Break out the soldering iron, these things are usually easy enough to hack together that even I can do it... -
BUYER BEWARE...Shady online Atari dealer (Best Electronics)
galax replied to 3DOMan's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I think when dealing with a business that has such an amateurish and chaotic website it would be a good idea to follow the rule: "Never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by incompetence." -
I'm interested, PM sent...
