  1. You are probably referring to the UK's Retro Gamer, which is not written in capitals, lets not confuse things further Carl's Kickstarter was the first of the two, but Mike's Kickstarter and first issue were before Carl's first issue. There were two UK magazines with Retro in their name in the early 2000s: Retro Review 4 Issues since January 2002 https://archive.org/details/RetroReview02 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retro_Review Retro Gamer 152 issues since January 2004 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retro_Gamer http://www.retrogamer.net/ RETRO Videogame Magazine (Mike) 11 issues since January 2014 Kickstarter October 2013: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/socalmike/retro-the-multi-format-throw-back-video-game-magaz More Kickstarter October 2014: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/socalmike/retro-video-game-magazine-year-two http://readretro.com Retro Gaming Magazine (Carl) 2 issues since February 2014 Kickstarter March 2012: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/989925720/retro-gaming-magazine/ http://retrogamingmagazine.com/ Edit: Also Retro Gaming Monthly September 2012: http://www.magcloud.com/browse/issue/315758
  2. Different to the Ultrasatan- emulates floppy disks instead of a big hard disk. I find 500MB hard disk partitions more convenient, but some things (games, demos) only run from floppy.
  3. You should see 5v DC between pins 1 and 3, and 12v Dc between pins 1 and 6, and 0v between 1/2/3, and between 3/4/5. Measure with the computer running, and don't touch the PSU as there will be 110v in there. Obviously be careful not to short curcuit anything as well. It's not definitely the PSU, but it's the first thing to rule out because it's easy to test, easy to fix, they go wrong quite often with age, and a bad PSU can cause all sorts of weird effects. Your Master tracks pro floppy probably isn't PC formatted, so you can't read it from Windows. Windows thinks it is an unformatted disk and offers to format it as a blank disk. You should be able to rip an image of it using Floimg, or download the copy of Master tracks pro that I linked to.
  4. April fools day of course, see you all back here in 357 days
  5. In the Coleco Chameleon movie its demise will have more ceremony about it: Of course Hater Brigader members will be depicted with pitchforks and flaming torches: The toy fair prototype will be a MacGuffin, where the contents of the Jag Shell is never revealed to the audience no matter how much they want to see inside it:
  6. A disk image is a file that contains the data from a floppy disk that your emulator program can use instead of a real floppy disk. Use the .ST file format for most disk images. Formatting erases the disk, you only need to do it on a blank unused disk to set up the layout of the disk, a bit like drawing the lines and space numbers in an empty car park before you can use it. If you re-format a disk it will ignore the existing format and set it up as if it was a blank disk, losing all data that was on there before even if the disk structure is still the same. I've never used MIDI with a PC. If you don't get any answers about using MIDI from an emulator on here you could try the Atari Musicians Network Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/atarist/
  7. Not interested, Mike can use the law to recover that money, or chalk it up to experience. Good idea, subscriptions are over here: http://atariage.com/forums/page/subscriptions
  8. With the RVGS, yes, but he never said anything publicly about the Chameleon.
  9. I say we take off and nuke the molds from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
  10. It's a floppy drive replacement, unplug the floppy drive and plug in the Gotek: http://www.tehkella.net/retro/?p=439 - it can be bought pre-flashed to save you the hassle of flashing it with HxC firmware. You could also connect it externally with the right cable: http://www.atari-wiki.com/index.php/Connecting_an_HxC_Floppy_Emulator_to_an_ST
  11. I always shook my Christmas presents and peeked around the wrapping to try to work out what was inside; there's no way on earth that I would have been able to resist peeling back some of that that black tape to take a look inside if I was Mike, especially after the show when it didn't need to work any more. Actually I wouldn't have even considered taking a homebrew ball of wires, tape, and electronics onto a plane without looking inside; imagine the TSA questions.
  12. I'd recommend Steem SSE or Hatari emulators- recent versions of both will run fine on Win7 64: https://sourceforge.net/projects/steemsse/ https://hatari.tuxfamily.org/download.html Getting data from your floppies should be easy if they are PC formatted, if not you could use floppy image or similar if it's not a USB drive: http://atari.8bitchip.info/floimgd.php - last resort would be to send them to another user on the forum who can rip the files from them; I'll do it if you are in Canada, if not you can probably find someone closer. You can get Master Tracks Pro 3.6 here if you can't get it from the floppy for some reason: http://tamw.atari-users.net/mtpro.htm I assume you want to connect it to a MIDI device? I think there's a way to setup the emulated ST to use the PC's midi ports (if you have them), Steem has settings for it but I've never done it myself.
  13. First thing I'd check would be the ST's power supply- test the voltages under load (with the ST running). Any PSU capacitors bulging?
  14. Are you trying to use the MiST's support for USB to ethernet, by going USB->Serial DB9, DB9->DB25, and DB25 Serial->ethernet? Several places that could go wrong: you could try the whole thing with a PC first to check that it's wired up correctly.
  15. I found another photo of Sean Robinson after the Mysterious Hardware Guy Lee was unmasked:
  16. Easy to replace if you can find one, someone will have one spare if you ask around and wait. You could try cleaning the heads first though. In the long run an HxC or Gotek flopy replacement might be cheaper and less hassle. As someone said above it could be the floppy controller and not the drive though. You're not very specific about exactly what the errors are and when they occur, whether there is noise/movement/drive lights etc. There may be some way to rule out whether it is the drive or controller based on the errors. It could also be the power supply, some STs need 12v for the disk drive, separate from the 5v that most of the rest of the machine uses, I would check that your PSU is OK before ordering a new disk drive.
  17. It's format a: /1 but you may also have to specify double density with /4 or /f:360 or /n:9. Why not format it on the ST?
  18. They could also highlight the text and click on Remove Format. True but they might want to keep the bold, italic, underline, etc.- both ways are very useful. BBCode mode is also handy for nested quotes (see above), if there's a way to do this without editing the BBCode I haven't found it.
  19. When you run into that sort of problem use the lightswitch button on the top left to delete all of the pesky and tags in "BBCode Mode":
  20. Great news that they/he/she are starting to correct this; PayPal refunds are easy to give too. If everyone receives what they are owed we can call off the hounds
  21. For anyone who hasn't yet had the pleasure of meeting Sean Robinson, there are photos of him on these articles from 5 years ago so you know who to look out for: http://www.columbian.com/news/2011/aug/28/champions-of-commodore-computer-clubs-founder-find/(click right arrow for second photo) http://www.oregonlive.com/clark-county/index.ssf/2010/10/on_101010_computer_club_celebrates_nerd_holiday.html Those photos were a lapse in security for a man who operates his businesses from UPS Stores: http://washington.intercreditreport.com/company/robinson-creative-solutions-sean-robinson-602879690 http://www.whois.com/whois/robinsoncreativesolutions.net Robinson Creative Solutions, 6715 NE 63rd St # 481, Vancouver, WA 98661 http://www.findusabusiness.com/c/b/sean-robinson/5750059 Robinson Sean (Principle), [email protected] 3337 W. Florida Ave. Pmb 239, Riverside, Hemet, CA, 92544 15 years ago he had already built up quite a reputation for upsetting people as 'almightyarcade': https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/rec.games.video.arcade.collecting/almightyarcade
  22. What disks are you trying to look at? Commercial games usually give errors if you try to look at them from the desktop. Try formatting a blank disk (or one that you don't care about) and save the desktop layout to it, make sure the write protect tab is closed of course.
  23. Different how? You mean he didn't have delusions of grandeur about trying to make his fortune out of the gaming community back then? Oh wait, PostalGamer/ParcelGamer/EKGaming, GamerSpots, ChaseTheChuckwagon: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/247145-coleco-chameleon-hardware-speculations/?p=3464192
  24. Families, friends, hobbies, work, sport, politics, religion... you can try looking but you won't be able to find a drama-free aspect of human life.
