  1. I will try the standalone 512 images without ATMEGA1248P next week when I am back. And I also will follow your advise: "I strongly suggest you spend the $35 or so to buy one of the flap-type sockets, as these have never exhibited problems when programming the chips. " This is why....:-) First of all it is a "pain in the neck" to get those chips out of the sockets easily, and I broke 1x pin I/O 0 on the ATMEL 49F040 chip, (and also the pin in the burning socket is a bit bended now, so I am going to get the ones you adviced) > > Module with the paper-clip, everything works normal (Rasmus 8 in 1 games) > Also I tried running the module without the paper-clip on I/O 0 (was curious if it was needed or not): >
  2. Perfect, nice list and thanks for the help with the Pi images, good for the community! 3. Hi Biokemyst, I am not using the RetroPie with the disk system (because I use the other emulators, I use the RetroPie mainly for games without disks) >> http://www.mrousseau.org/programs/ti99sim/ >> http://www.mrousseau.org/programs/ti99sim/README.html RE: also, my retropie emulationstation doesn't recognize the ti99 emulator so I have to access these games from the command line. Is there a way I can integrate this emulator back into emulationstation? Yes it works from the RetroPi menu (similar like options like Atari, Nintendo, Sega MAster System, etc.) 5 min. ago I just upgraded to RetroPi v4.1 all works. > See the other Atari Age thread for more details: > http://atariage.com/forums/topic/250767-how-to-install-ti-994a-ti-99sim-on-retropie-v36-raspberry-pi2-or-pi3/ > Youtube video
  4. Also got the Rasmus 8-1 image to work (512K image burned to the ATMEL AT49F040 chip) (then tested, but the XB27 menu came back, however pressing A or B opened up the games, like Sabre Wulf, Bouncy) then I put the 128Kflash image (of the XBv27 060315.zip file on the ATMEGA1284P), but without the EEprom file and followed the same procedure (thus also overwriting the data portion). Now the module works okay. I think we need to update the installation document for the UberGrom as it is not so clear. (Next week I will test some other packages and can put it in a document to share with everyone), maybe it is good to put it in Message #1
  5. Hi Matt, Thank you for the explanations! (I just want to be sure everything is working okay and that I do not get shortcuts/fire, etc. or have to deal with power fluctuations even is the right time of the year for fireworks). Literally I have lived 2x next to a house that burned down to the ground here in Bangkok (like a normal fan catching fire). Also all my electricity here in the apartment is not grounded (I forgot to mention that), it is a wonder that the TI keeps running with the power outages and fluctuations in power here. All works beautiful, exactly what I needed for the cartridges that require 32K. Good start for the New Year!
  6. Good news, I just managed to get the XB27 image burned on the UberGrom http://atariage.com/forums/topic/229718-extended-basic-v27-suite-cartridge/page-21 XBv27 060315.zip PS. the text hidden in the EEprom file is interesting :-) For the ATMEL AT49F040 chip first I got an error: > Then pressed the "ID" icon > After that it worked to burn the 512k file > -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next item to sort out is how to get another .bin on the module
  7. Hi Jim, Thank you for the fast reply. I found the document earlier today and those steps work okay for the ATMEGA1284P. What I did not do yet is to programme the 49F040s (I opened an earlier XB2.7 and saw a sticker on it and realised it need to be programmed) Sorry if I ask basic questions here (or maybe it is somewhere explained already or in a video), but I am still having trouble to see the logic here. Question: 1. Do I also follow the same steps for these chips to be programmed (with all the same settings as in the PDF? as it indicates only ATMEGA1284P 2. Are the Flash128 and EEprom files kind of standard for each UberGrom built? or does it depend on the complete package. (or do I only program the 49F040s with unique software?) 3. If I want to load for example Rasmus 8-1 cart, then I only push the .bin to the 49F040 correct? (and leave the ATMEGA1284P with the flash128 and EEprom)
  8. Also I just tested it to get the list updated, you only have to restart "Emulstation" (and not the whole RetroPie) that saves time when added / removing .ctg to the roms directory. At this moment I am upgrading the RetroPie to version 4.1 and check if everything still works. > https://retropie.org.uk/2016/11/retropie-4-1-released/ (In case some is upgrading from 3.x will need to update the RetroPie-Setup script first. See the upgrade instructions on the Wiki for more details.
  9. Etownandy: The education module like PHM3090G.Bin Milliken Addition Sequence it is working and I have tested others as well. Number Readiness Sequence, etc. I just learned why the gamelist.xml was not updated as .ctg files need to be installed in this directory (it is in the installation document, but that time I was not sure if they need to be both in /opt/ti99sim/cartridges, but that is not needed) Roms need to be here (if you add .ctg to this directory then the best is to reboot the RetroPie) root@retropie:/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ti99sim#
  10. I tried to convert the Educational Rom to .ctg file for TI/Sim but it gives errors (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uBiaDrJav8g-Yjk7w2wfVE5CKHGKCZidBE3W7tVGBWQ/edit#gid=0) you can find the .bin image at AtariAge (it works with Classic99). Also I converted PHM3090G.Bin to .ctg which seems to work fine root@retropie:/opt/ti99sim/bin# convert-ctg /home/pi/temp/PHM3090G.Bin TI-99/Sim .ctg file converter Found the following names: * MILLIKEN Module Summary: Title: MILLIKEN GROMS: 3 4 5 root@retropie:/opt/ti99sim/bin# mv PHM3090G.ctg /opt/ti99sim/cartridges/ But I do not see it appearing in the Retropie software list (not sure if I need to refresh the directory) also after a reboot it is not listed (I remember I had some issues on my system to get the cartridge list updated when adding new files). I wrote it down in my configuration file last time: Adding Cartridges  Goto RetroPi settings o Parse Gamelists only change from “On” to “Off”  Normally it should work to add the additional .ctg files to the /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ti99sim directory, but somehow the gamelist.xml does not get updated also after the reboot the RetroPI I do not get the list updated (and therefore cannot see the Milliken to test it in Retropie but it should work in a linux environment)
  11. Sorry I am a bit newbie here to figure out how it works: Are there detailed (step-by-step) instructions how to burn the Uber-Grom card? (I am having difficulties to see the whole process and it is a bit trial and error now, I read through the forum, but could not find 1-2-3 clear instructions). Step 1: I need to use the MiniProgrammer to flash the ATMEL1248P correct? Click the code memo tab and then click the file tab and open to load the 128k flash file (must be a .bin file). Click the data memo tab and then click the file tab and open to load the EEprom file (must be a .bin file). (I found in the XB27 package a Flash128k file, but also a 512K file and a EEProm file) then other postings only have 1x bin file (can I use the Flash128K file). [EDIT] for example, which of the programming files I put on the ATMEL1248P chip? http://atariage.com/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=396166 [EDIT] and how do I put the other software on the ATMEL AT49F040 ? is there a procedure) > which files are these, as I only see sometimes single .bin files in the forum. > Once I programmed/flashed it, can I overwrite it again with another .bin file ? (and is there a limitation or can it be done as many times as possible ?) I found the PDF of Gazoo (posted via Ralf) "MiniPro programmer, it CAN program 1284p chips!" (he is using v6.10) I had version 6.17 (also via Ralf) which has the ATMELMEGA1248P in the list, but the software complained it was outdated and I got the v6.50 installed, but [EDIT[ -> ATMEL1248P is in the list (type it in the search window) http://www.autoelectric.cn/download.html Step 2: Do I need to program the AT49F040 as well (I do not think so as it is memory only) ? (I have a socket PLCC32 for the MiniProgrammer) http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/genesis_cart/doc0998.pdf Step 3 - Tursi has the GromCFG tool (I have used that before with the XB2.7 to upgrade to newer images) (but that can only be done once the hardware is running and an image is on the module already, like XB or EA?). or do I use this tool to flash the .bin files to the Chip ?
  12. Hi Matt, I just re-tested all the scenarios with the 32K board directly connected to the TI (internal power and external power) and all results are the same (with the exception that I cannot hear the Speech of course). The FlasRom99 not coming up is I think to do with my micro-SD card adapter or plug-in/out the cartridge (need to investigate it) as I used other 32K expansions and it has the same behavior (so it is not related to the 32K board). All cartridges work fine so far I can see/test. LED modes: -------------- Thanks for explaining the led-light behavior when it is off or on depending on accessing the 32K or ROM addressing, but do you know what the difference is between the dimmed-LED mode and bright-LED mode ? (like in the Parsec Video) as it has the same behavior when it is directly connected to the TI (with and without the external power) and I do not see a difference as when a Speech is mounted in between (In future I will use the Speech + EXT power or do the quick modification in the Speech to avoid that I damage something). With the 32K card directly connected and using EXT power I see this: 1. TI-99/4A turned OFF. 32K board powered via EXT power (jumper set) and bright LED is on 2. Turn ON the TI-99/4A. the led goes off on the 32K board 3. Used the 2048K Games module until the menu appears (led goes bright and then back to dimmed mode) 4. Pressing space bar (going through the menus) is switching between bright and dimmed (and stays dimmed when not pressing any button) 5. Playing Parsec (same as the video before), now the Led is flickering continuously (until spaceship gets hit by alien, or crashes into the ground, then the LED is bright solid until the sound is completed, then it is back to flickering again) I just want to make sure if the LED behavior is normal behavior as I need to give away 2x of the 32K boards (and it was a bit confusing to me if the TI-99 is turned on that the LED light goes off) Thanks in advance for all the help, I love the solution! It also opens up opportunities for people without Flashrom, etc. but if they have an Extended Basic + Cassette Cable + Recorder only to load assembly games (using Tonny Brouwer's solution) or via a wav file from a mobile phone/line-input (if someone converted it to a wave file). Ronald Thanks for your help!
  13. Sorry I did not see your earlier post about the educational modules. I have the V9T9 .bin formats (Milliken, Scott Foresman, Plato) and the large .bin Education rom for Classic99, but I have not tried them to use in the RetroPie / TI-SIM and convert it to .ctg let me try today
  14. A few more items I see: 1. Turn on the TI-99/4A and stay at the home screen (red led light is off) 2. Press any key (selection menu) (red led light is still off) Modules: 3a. press Games 2048K, then the led lids up in dimmed mode (as the module get accessed) 3b. with the normal Extended Basic the led light does not lit up at all (is off), but with SIZE I can see 24488 bytes free 3c. with the Flashrom99 (then the red-led in the flashrom module keeps flashing, I guess it cannot see the 32K) but if I wait long enough and try a few times pressing the reset key (short time period), it seems to work fine and comes with the Flashrom99 menu. 3d. Extended Basic v2.7 Speech seems not to work during startup (this is the Speech "Texas Instruments Home Computer" which Gazoo and Tursi helped to include) It garbles when using jumper "TI" (but rest works okay when going to ExBas and SIZE shows 24488), CALL NYANYA works, but after QUIT (FCTN-=) then it garbles with the Speech. When using jumper "EXT" and external +5V adapter then it works fine (Speech talks during startup) My guess is that the 32K is not ready yet, when the Extended Basic V2.7 is starting and want to utilize Speech+32K. 3e. Editor/Assembler module works (but red led is off) (using TI internal jumper)
  15. Hi Matt, Perfect solution I have been looking for 2 years, finally it is here in the market. I also have a question about this as I read that a modification has to be done in the Speech Synthesizer http://ti994a.cwfk.net/32k.html But I just tested out 4x 32K side car expansions and they all work fine without having the modification done and also without the external power supply. (all modules work fine like Extended Basic V2.7, normal Extended Basic, Editor/Assembler, 2048K Games, Flashrom) all with the Speech Synthesizer connected to the Console, then using the extension cable http://www.connectworld.net/cgi-bin/hello-cables/L1172 Speech Synthesizer looks okay and standard to me: I noticed it takes a while before the red-led light lids up, then it seems to be all okay, but the led light is a bit dimmed. (Speech works, 32K works). However I see this behavior (32K sidecar is directly connected to the Speech Synthesizer): 1. jumper set to "TI" (internal power) >> e.g. using 2048K Games, playing Parsec, the red-light is not completely bright, a bit dimmed and keeps flashing >> until the alien hits the space-ship, then the led light is very bright solid (not flashing) 2. jumper set to "EXT" (external power) using a +5V adapter 600ma (which I btw also use for my nano-PEB) same behavior as above with Parsec Here is video of the led light. VID_20161228_183814.mp4
  16. (I had to search a bit, but found it back). This is the Lego Zoo protection kit for Nano-Peb (but should work for the 32K side expansion as well)
  17. Good idea and it looks good too! I was only utilizing Lego to build a case around it (there is somewhere a "Lego-Zoo" picture and today we used the Garage lego 348 set
  18. I have the same problem, it is very hard to remove the 32K side expansion (especially when connected directly to the TI-99/4A. The best is to plug it into the Speech Synthesizer (easier to remove all at once). Also an extension cable can be used (I ordered these some time ago), this will help also with NanoPEBs, etc. http://www.connectworld.net/cgi-bin/hello-cables/L1172 To protect the 32K side expansion you can use the Garage Lego set no. 348 and add another layer on top (warning: do this only if you get approval of the 5 year old boss) > https://www.toysperiod.com/lego-set-reference/legoland/building/lego-348-1-garage-with-automatic-doors/
  19. There is/was a whole zip file on the internet which had all the modules already in .ctg format. See step number 5 (in the initial post), the zip file is still downloadable
  20. When playing Alpiner (the game competition going on this month) in JS99er.net then the only issue I have is that somehow the key movement get stuck (e.g. going upwards or left / right), To solve it: go to options and select PC-keyboard toggle on/off to stop the issue. It looks like a repeating key-loop issue in the emulator? (it does not happen in other emulators, the real TI I need to try out later)
  21. I have the same invisble snowman and speech issues, but I cannot try my real TI with Speech at the moment. Luckily the speech is encouraging "Here we go again".
  22. Thank you for this (I did not read the manual of course), but now I know to go for the green targets, was not sure what it was. I saw the nest many times, but the vulture once (I will try to stop at the birds nest). I have not seen the black caves yet.
  23. Hi Vorticon, strategy: * Sticking to the edges is the best to switch between sides * When you have falling objects, then wait until the next falling item comes (because you have more time to move left and right) * Once you have falling objects and enough space, then go up in diagonal direction * best is to use a Joystick (I am using Suzo the Arcade, with the DB9 to USB converter and Classic99) * when you see larger moving sprite items passing by (like the Skunk, Eagle, Snowman/Skieer), then try to keep moving away from it (e.g. using the edges at the screen) * I noticed that the seconds only count down when standing still (not moving). Not sure if that is an emulator issue (I would like to play on the real iron, but no room for it at the moment to install it) Once you cleared Mt. Everest, it is easier to go a few levels further New: 56268
  24. New score 39099 (moved the thread to here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/259666-high-score-competition-dec-16-alpiner/?p=3645518)
  25. New score: 39099 but there is a very irritating figure (snowman with red propeller head?) to pass by (I believe he brought me down 6 times several meters and then you can climb up again, but also it seems the sprites do not move smoothly here). Just curious if other people also see this happening? Reached Mount Everest Then in next round ther are new objects falling down from the mountain!
