Why do nintendo fans hate arcade games? The anger over the announcement of online play for Mario Bros was bizarre. I was told its a shallow, repetitive game that plays like crap and has 30 seconds of content.

Discovered Space Attack from M Network last night on the harmony. Really fun game.

Dark Cavern rocked! I used to play the heck out of it as a kid. In my opinion much more playable than Night Stalker. I liked the Adventures of TRON too. They definitely had their actor together as far as good game ports. Can't say the same for some of the Parker Brothers and Coleco ports to the VCS.

Does anyone else find the 7800 kind of lame? If the A8bit was a giant leap ahead of the VCS, the 7800 was maybe half a step ahead of it. I just don't get the appeal.

FWIW, the original 7800 design included better sound, but somewhere along the way it was dropped. Adding a POKEY chip to every cartridge just for sound is incredibly wasteful, which explains why only two (first-party) games did it.
The XM will also add better sound, but who knows how many people will get to use it.

Does anyone else find the RGB obsession in present day retro gaming really obnoxious? Like some of these guys would rather chop their thumbs off than use anything lower than component on a BVM. When did this become so important?

I just unwrapped a sealed PC Engine game from 1988. Somewhere a collectard suffered severe chest pain and didn't know why.

I find that I greatly appreciate and prefer European youtubers now. I'm American and I can't stand most US youtubers because they're so high on Nintendo at the expense of nearly everything else. I'm a 26 year old American, yet I know more about the Amiga, Spectrum, C64, MSX, etc than a lot of the popular personalities.

Exerion is a really good Galaga-esque game that you never hear about.

Do all video games really deserve to be preserved? I don't think so.

I believe all software should be preserved. It started it's life in digital format and should be remembered in that form. Just because it was flashed to physical hardware and sold doesn't mean it should stay that way. Everything has a shelf life and when that expires, much of this software that could be enjoyed for generations to come will be lost forever. I understand some are against emulation and digital preservation (especially hardcore collectors). However in reality it always was digital and nothing other than code. HC collectors still have their physical copies and that's cool. But many like the convenience of emulation while keeping their systems and carts stored on a shelf for aesthetic purposes (like myself).

Picked up a Pac Man 35th anniversary plug n play from walmart today for $20. I'm looking forward to firing it up.

@jaybird3rd that's the one. I spent about an hour with it last night. The games that don't use diagonals are great on it, but I had a hard time with Xevious and Bosconian. It was hard to hit diagonals with that stick. The video output is surprisingly good for composite. I'd say it's worth it for the Pac Man games, Galaxian, Galaga, and Dig Dug. Just don't pay more than $20. A big improvement over the Jakks p'n'p's.

The Collectorvision Phoenix discussion is about the most toxic thing I've ever seen on this site. If you're a potentially interested newcomer, go away, they don't want you.

I've cleaned a lot of Atari and Intellivision carts over the years, but they don't begin to approach the level of filth Famicom carts always have. Yuck.

Why is it people always wait until there's a 100% chance of rain to put their CRTs out on the curb? We could have a 6 month drought and no one would put them out, but it looks like a downpour, "Geez, I better put my old TV out on the curb. F anyone who might want it." I saw a great Toshiba yesterday that I would have grabbed if it wasn't drenched.

This place is so much more positive than many gaming forums out there. It's very refreshing. I always leave with a good feeling.

I think this place is by and large refreshingly positive too compared to other gaming forums. That's why I stick around here. =) And I can forgive the Jaguar sub-forum for not being quite as positive as the rest. The fate of the Jaguar wasn't exactly sunshine and rainbows, so Jag fans probably do have a fair bit to be upset about.

I'm smitten with the MSX right now.

Just spent an hour playing Super Breakout. A game like that just swallows you until you hit the off switch.

I got rid of a CRT today for the first time today. I don't even regret it. If you ever come across a late-model Samsung CRT, don't bother with it.

Is the new MST3K season any good?

Just won a BIOS modded 130XE and a 64K/AV modded 600XL on ebay for less than $75 each.

I have a modded 130XE with the 3-in-1 OS chip. Original XL/XE os, 400/800 OS "B" os, and their version of the XL/XE version with enhancements. Also with 320 Ram. Also have their I/O board that plugs into the cartridge/epansion port that ads parralel printers and hard drive ad ons. Have to hook it up and see it all still works. Thinking of selling it.

Whenever Virtua Racing reaches the NA eShop, I'm ready. One of these days, it'll be there when I check.

I like that game and will jump on it the moment it launches. I wonder if it's as popular in real Ike as it seems to be online? The Switch port sounds like it does everything right, at last. The 32X port was great but the hardware was stupid. The Genesis version is low res. The PS2 port was really late to North America, and I don't want to talk about the Saturn port.

Does anyone know the best way to clean grime from cartridge contacts? There's some black crap on the contacts of my Lynx Stun runner cart that a q-tip and alcohol won't get rid of. Toothbrush and alcohol?

Had a weird dream where I was playing King of Fighters 96 on the N64.

Why is MSX stuff so expensive? It's as if resellers had a big meeting a decade ago and decided that MSX would cost infinity dollars. Is it because it's old, exotic, and Japanese? It's a head scratcher.

Just bought myself a Harmony Encore. Very Excited!

Awesome! I think you're going to like it way more than you imagine. When I got my Harmony Encore it really took all the pressure off collecting for the 2600, since it let me play every Atari 2600 game ever made (including all the latest homebrews that aren't out on cartridges yet). The Harmony Encore is the best thing any Atari 2600 fan could own if you ask me! =)
