  1. I dug up a bunch of my old consoles I had in storage at my parents. The McWill Lynx and Game Gear still look fantastic.

Awesome bro. Glad that they still do. 8^)

  2. The Collectorvision Phoenix discussion is about the most toxic thing I've ever seen on this site. If you're a potentially interested newcomer, go away, they don't want you.

Correct. And I went from backing it to not, banned from two threads, yet still sleeping like a baby.

Did I miss something? In the last 2 or 3 days?

Don't know. I'm not awwowwed to weed the thread.

  3. Exerion is a really good Galaga-esque game that you never hear about.

I always played that one off Famicom multicarts.

I totally would have played it in arcades BITD if we had it though :)

I liked that game. Early parallax scrolling in an arcade game. Also liked the way you have to balance rapid fire (limited) and regular fire. Some music would have been nice though.

  4. Why do nintendo fans hate arcade games? The anger over the announcement of online play for Mario Bros was bizarre. I was told its a shallow, repetitive game that plays like crap and has 30 seconds of content.

I've come to realize that I actually like other people in person... but I tend to think I dislike people "online." Make of that what you will.

      Skippy B. Coyote

I agree with BydoEmpire, on both counts lol I consider myself a Nintendo fan (possibly even a fanboy) and I really enjoy classic arcade games. I also get along with just about everyone in real life, but can be a touch rough around the edges online.

    4. Reaperman

      Reaperman

It's always felt a little wrong to me to play Mario Bros on a non-Atari system. I should loudly complain.

  5. Got the Rhea up and running in my Saturn. Works like a champ.

I have a regular Japanese Saturn, so it's nice to be able to play certain games in English or games that didn't get a Japanese release. Plus Policenauts in English.

Yeah I'm a patreon backer for that. I'm hoping he'll give priority to backers once he starts producing and selling them.

  6. I find that I greatly appreciate and prefer European youtubers now. I'm American and I can't stand most US youtubers because they're so high on Nintendo at the expense of nearly everything else. I'm a 26 year old American, yet I know more about the Amiga, Spectrum, C64, MSX, etc than a lot of the popular personalities.

And it makes me sad when youtube guys who are 10+ years older than me claim that they're not "old enough" to appreciate Atari games. Yeah ok, bud.

I actually grew up with Nintendo, Commodore, Amiga, Atari 2600, the arcades, and pre-Genesis Sega.

  7. experienced the horror of failing to set up WHDLoad.

I was lucky to get it working last year, though it required a full system reinstall on different media before I got it to work.

I have a modded 130XE with the 3-in-1 OS chip. Original XL/XE os, 400/800 OS "B" os, and their version of the XL/XE version with enhancements. Also with 320 Ram. Also have their I/O board that plugs into the cartridge/epansion port that ads parralel printers and hard drive ad ons. Have to hook it up and see it all still works. Thinking of selling it.

Congrats! I always liked the style of the XE computers.

  10. So, how can I know if my monitor will work with a MiST? It has VGA.

    1. Laner

      Laner

As long as you have the scandoubler option enabled in mist.ini, you should be fine with most VGA monitors.

  11. You know what, I think I'm going to get a C64 Mini when they're out.

      imstarryeyed

I plan to get one as well.. I grew up with a Vic 20, got a 128 later and a 64C years later.

I am really embracing the 2017 - 2018 or 2019 short years when so many things went mini!

That is an era I do not wish to pass me without getting some goodies.

  12. Had a weird dream where I was playing King of Fighters 96 on the N64.

I put this in the Dream Repository thread in General Chat, but I had a dream once where I was playing "the PS2 version of Panzer Dragoon Saga" on a Dreamcast using an emulation disc like Bleemcast. And why was I playing the PS2 version? Because it was cheaper (reasoning I had in my dream).

Seems like many games get ported to the Colecovision, was it that similar to the CV?

Same CPU and VDP, different sound chip, I/O and memory map.

    4. zetastrike

      zetastrike

The soundchip seems nearly identical. I'm told it can reach lower octaves, but that's about it.

  15. I've cleaned a lot of Atari and Intellivision carts over the years, but they don't begin to approach the level of filth Famicom carts always have. Yuck.

I think a lot of NES carts were used as makeshift dust pans for slobs to clean up their coffee tables.

      Shawn

Worst I ever came across was a dead cockroach shell and a mummified spider nest in the same cart.

    4. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

I actually had Worse luck with a few Atari carts...Grimy mud on a couple (No idea LOL), But some of those brightly colored Famicom carts show the dirt in obvious ways...

  16. Mega Man 11 announced! And it's not a stupid fake 8 bit game!

      Sizzling Circuits!

  17. Lagrange Point on the NES is a pretty neat little game. It has pretty quick pacing, not much time needs to be spent grinding. It's a novelty hearing FM synth in it. I'm glad it got implimented in the new Famicom Everdrive update.

    1. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Right on! I just got an Everdrive N8 and I've got the Famicom version on the way...Should go nicely in my Sharp Twin or my VGA, RGB, S-video Famicom.

  18. I'm in the process of rewatching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers season 1. Meeting the Green Ranger at a con back in July and listening it 3BlackGeeks podcast got me wanting to see it again. I'm loving it, it's a very likable show.

    4. Skippy B. Coyote

      Skippy B. Coyote

I think this place is by and large refreshingly positive too compared to other gaming forums. That's why I stick around here. =) And I can forgive the Jaguar sub-forum for not being quite as positive as the rest. The fate of the Jaguar wasn't exactly sunshine and rainbows, so Jag fans probably do have a fair bit to be upset about.

  21. Is the Colecovision controller any better or more comfortable than the Intellivision? I've never used one. I'm not sure what to make of the joystub on it. I'm going to have to get one for my Ultimate Flashback.

It's actually worse, imho, but then I grew up with the Inty. If I had grown up with a CV I'd probably think otherwise.

      It's a bit better.

    4. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

I grew up with Coleco and really liked it at the time, but it's a controller you really manhandle...We've all had many better controllers now...I still kind of like them nostalgically once in a great while...

  22. It's a shame how much of media is designed to make people feel awful about themselves. It makes me sad to think of people who lack tools and support who fall for it.

Not sure if you're mocking me or serious. Rene mentioned that any homebrew or flashcarts could have the same problem, not just the everdrives.

    3. Keatah

      Keatah

Serious because I keep reading here on AA that machines develop all kinds of problems after tinkering..

Will this burn out anything on my emulators?

  25. Why is it people always wait until there's a 100% chance of rain to put their CRTs out on the curb? We could have a 6 month drought and no one would put them out, but it looks like a downpour, "Geez, I better put my old TV out on the curb. F anyone who might want it." I saw a great Toshiba yesterday that I would have grabbed if it wasn't drenched.

In the nearby low-class apartment complex, they throw out CRTs 3 per week on average. For years now!

    3. simbalion

      simbalion

I've seen that, with 'FREE' signs posted on them no less. But, it might not be the end if one gets wet. My late friend used to let them sit somewhere dry for a day or two and often they still worked.

    4. ledzep

      ledzep

Maybe you're looking at it backwards, maybe CRTs sitting out in the elements cause rainstorms, much like freshly washed cars.
