  1. Got the Pac Man Arcade cart for my A8bits. I had to force myself to turn it off.

If it happens again, use a sledgehammer. That'll sort out your addiction until you get another system.

Yeah the graphics on the 400/800/XL/5200/7800 are really nice.

Much better than the 2600 version.

  2. Does anyone else find the A8bit version ridiculously difficult? Sometimes it takes me half an hour just to get through the first round. It seems like there are a ton of enemies early on. I've never seen the electric stage on it. Shame, because I think it looks and sounds nice. I just wish I could do better at it.
  3. That's really cool. As much as this excites me, I already have a CFW PSP, but I don't have a VCS emulator on it (I prefer buying carts because they're mostly cheap as chips). If the Flashback 7 has an SD slot on it, that's a Day 1 purchase for me and I'm putting my AV modded Jr and carts up for sale.
  4. Ms Pac Man on the Inty is AMAZING! It's like a whole new game. I'm grateful we have people like Carl in the community.

  5. I just played the A8bit version last night, and I may have to agree with him. The only thing the original might have over the Inty is the smooth scrolling, but even that I'm not sold on. The block-shifting that happens on the Inty version makes it easier to not move too far ahead of the scroll rate. Graphically, the Inty game uses much more attractive colors. They're nice and bright, while the Atari has very dull, earthy tones (that was likely the idea, though). The sound effects are nice. I particularly like the musical tones played when crystals fall. I also had an easier time controlling with the disc than with a CX-40. If this version isn't better than the original, then it's on equal ground at worst.
  6. Just had a great transaction with Eric7100 on an Intellivision game. Very happy with the experience, would recommend him.
  7. Having never played Boulder Dash before getting this cart, it's an awesome game. It has that "I bet if I did X instead of Y, I'd get past that, one more go" quality to it. I was really pleased that the cart saves high scores. I feel lucky to have ended up with a copy of it. I'm still coming to grips with the rock-drop physics. I'm never quite sure if a rock is going to fall to the left or right or at all yet.
  8. I bought an AtariMax Multicart from Paul Westphal at eightbitfix.com. He's a member here. The transaction was great. He made sure that every game worked on real hardware and even included some games I was unaware existed. He really made a lot of effort. He even went so far as to speak with me over the phone regarding the transaction. If you were considering doing business with him, I would recommend it.
  9. But that ruins it. Makes the game way too easy. I could never stand that in the GBA remake. I could play it all day without dying. XE version any day.
  10. I keep saying this: I'm 25 and I love pre-crash consoles and games. I find the score-attack/arcade and simpler games on the VCS, INTV, and A8bit to be so more endearing and satisfying than slogging through some bloated NES/SNES collectathon-platformer. I'm a working adult with a life, I don't have the time or desire for games like that. I discovered AA, did a lot of reading, researched what to buy, and got it. There's nothing stopping anyone else in my age bracket from doing the same thing. It's easier than ever to get into really old games, with all the information out there now. A lot of young-ins don't know any better because none of the youtube-mouthbreathers give anything before the NES the time of day. In my case, a price crash wouldn't be the worst thing. I would make things cheaper for me and anyone looking to get started.

  12. Hey, I have a mint CIB Wico Bat handle for trade. Here's my thread. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/253632-for-trade-sega-32x-cib-wico-saturn-par-phantasy-star-iv/
  13. The XE version is really nice and more complete than the NES game. It has the intermissions, a lot of animation, and a lot of sprites moving around.
  14. Does anyone else have a hard time with diagonals on this? That's the only thing spoiling a nice little device. Video output is great for composite. Game selection is very good.
  15. Good insight from everyone. It is fun seeing the differences between various 80s ports of games and seeing the results that come from the efforts of a homebrew programmer who does it for fun rather than a paycheck.
  16. Limited supply + disposable income - patience = what we see today and will likely continue to see.
  17. Using my Pac Man plug n play last night got me thinking: is it weird that I play things like Pac-Man Arcade for the A8bit and plan on buying a Pac-Man 8K cart when there are things like that plug n play unit, Namco Museum, and MAME that are readily available? I like playing the near perfect versions of games like Pac-Man we have now, but at the same time homebrew that comes out now is really impressive and I like seeing what old hardware is capable of. Simply having a really nice, new version of an old game that might have been originally a little lacking on the VCS or 800 adds another layer of enjoyment for me Do the rest of you think it's justifiable to support homebrew ports like that when any of us could just go to a second hand store and buy a compilation disc, download it on XBL, or find the MAME roms?
  18. Picked up a Pac Man 35th anniversary plug n play from walmart today for $20. I'm looking forward to firing it up.

@jaybird3rd that's the one. I spent about an hour with it last night. The games that don't use diagonals are great on it, but I had a hard time with Xevious and Bosconian. It was hard to hit diagonals with that stick. The video output is surprisingly good for composite. I'd say it's worth it for the Pac Man games, Galaxian, Galaga, and Dig Dug. Just don't pay more than $20. A big improvement over the Jakks p'n'p's.

I'll probably pick one up if I can find it cheap. It might be fun to strip the board out and mount it inside a better controller. The original "blocky Pac-Man" controller doesn't look too comfortable.

  19. I use a real Intellivision II with a Solar Fox composite mod. It works beautifully. For now, I'm using the stock controllers. I don't have enough of an issue with them to splurge for the flashback pad and adapter, at least not yet. I got used to them pretty quick. The INTV is one of those consoles where emulation doesn't appeal to me. Not having the proper controller ruins it. The compilation disc for the PS2 just made me want the real thing.
  20. Newbie question: How is AA able to manufacture VCS carts? Do they cannibalize old carts or make the shell and boards themselves? What company manufactures them? I kind of like the white sunburst. I might suggest making the background black and the sunburst the same shade of blue as the maze.
  21. Namco never throws C&D orders around? I'm glad they have the kindness to just leave this little niche alone. They'd have nothing to gain from it. I'll gladly support DINTAR and AA for putting this out.
  22. I wish it was hockey season right now. Haven't been to a game since April.

  23. I just got my first Intellivision yesterday, a model II. I played Burgertime and Stampede. The controller was not an issue. I thought the disc was pretty cool. I found that it was easy to get the chef to respond and go in the direction I wanted, that steering it and using it like a d-pad were both effective. I thought it was neat. Also in both games, the fire button were fine. They responded every time I pressed them and it didn't require much pressure. For years I've heard people talk crap about the Intellivision controller, the model II version even moreso. I've only had it for one day, but I like it. It seems like a mountain is being made out of a mole hill by people who've become too used to gamepads or joysticks.
  24. Traded for a composite modded Intellivision II, NIB INTV Boulder Dash, and three loose carts. Everything is great, I'm thrilled with the quality of the mod work and the system itself. Boulder Dash is amazing. Great seller, recommended, A++
