  1. Yea, I got Howard Scott Warshaw's DVD (Once Upon Atari, I believe) at the CGE and it's got some pretty interesting stuff. Those programmers had it pretty good back in the day...
  2. I recently managed to pick up a Tapper in a lot with a bunch of commons. The 2600 version was surprisingly good. The addictiveness was definitely still prevalent in this version. I'd have to say, this game may make my top 10 games for the 2600 list.
  3. Hehe...I was never in the running, so it doesn't really affect me. The most I've paid to date is $8.50 for a King Kong so far. Most of my collection comes from "the wild" back in 1995.
  4. Wow, that sucks. I would kick my brother's ass.
  5. How valuable is a labeless Quadrun anyway? I would imagine that the price woud drop significantly.
  6. Funny...flea market hunting is one of the few things I have in common with my wife. We both love to go through old junk piles together looking for that elusive Atari game. She even once told me that she had a dream about going through an old box and finding a Chase the Chuckwagon! Scary.

  8. Going through eBay today, I saw Crypts of Chaos currently going for $40. This is one of the games I used to have as a kid, but don't have now as a collector of over 500 2600 games (label variations included). The game wasn't that fun to play, but it irks me knowing that I used to have this game. Spy Hunter is another one of those "used to have" games that I don't own. What rare games did you guys used to have when growing up?
  9. Man that's awesome. I didn't realize that there were plans for Madden before EA got involved. I know the first released EA Madden was back in '89 for the Apple. The first console version of course, was on the Genesis in Christmas of '90 I believe.
  10. I agree with Adventure being way overrated, but Yar's Revenge is probably one of the best 2600 games I've ever played. My current favorites (in no particular order): Yar's Revenge Asteroids Frostbite Demon Attack Warlords (best multi-player game ever)
  11. What software do you guys use for tracking your collection? I'm starting to put mine into the the Atari Guide Game Manager, but it doesn't have any label variation information. I'm having to insert additional rows into the Excel sheet for these situations and it's quite annoying. Is there one out there that already has this information? Thanks in advance.
  12. Are there any rarity differences between the 2-color (b&w with maybe one additional color) and 4-color (full color) versions of the standard Activision labels? I've noticed that I have these two versions for Barnstorming. It seems that the 2-color were for earlier Activision releases. I've not seen this difference in the standard label documented anywhere.

    Score!

This sounds innocent enough, but we all know that's how this obssession started for all of us... 1. Play the Atari 2600 again 2. Go out and look for games had as a kid 3. Once this is accomplished, go out and look for games wanted as a kid 4. Eventually, this turns into go out and look for anything Atari 2600 5. Uh oh, go out and look for any classic video game stuff (Colecovision, Intellivision, Odyssey2, etc.) 6. Classic video game stuff all of a sudden includes classic electronic toys (Mattel and Coleco handhelds and pong machines) 7. Go on eBay to look for games marked ER on VGR's list or R5+ on Digital Press guide 8. Start inventorying label variations 9. Go on Atari Age and posts goofy message 10. ...
  14. Of course you guys already are aware of this, but...Warlords is the best multiplayer of all-time. I can't imagine anything coming close...Street Fighter? Dr. Mario? Madden? Mario Party? I don't think so.
  15. I just noticed that the picture on the box shows a 4-switch version.
  16. Can you guys tell me why this Atari 2600 is so highly valued? Is it because it's in the box? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...1&category=3537
  17. I recently began collecting again after being sidetracked for 8+ years (I was a contributor on Greg Chance's site). Anyway, I was just going through my Digital Press guide and noticed that there are a two R1 that I don't have - Dark Chambers and Super Football. I can picture these clearly in my mind still in the shrinkwrap as part of some 40 2600/7800-game deal, but somehow I don't own these. Are there any common ones that you guys can't find? Or has eBay prevented you from having this WTF feeling that I'm having?
  18. I know you were kidding, but I thought that it was a B&W scan too. The table was in color though, so there goes that theory... I just haven't seen the variation mentioned on any label listings.
  19. Thanks guys. I didn't know that spray adhesive worked better. Also, the soft iron method sounds great.
  20. Was there a color and a black and white version of Thunderground by Sega? The reason I ask is that I just saw one on eBay with a B&W label.
  21. My first reaction was that it sounds like River Raid.
  22. I just picked up a Dishaster with the label that is peeling and warped from water damage. My question for all you experts out there is this: Should I try to remove the entire label and re-apply it using the glue stick? Or should I just try and glue the label on the best I can (accepting the warped areas as is)? If I were to remove the label altogether, what's the best way to do this? Can I use a blow dryer or something? Thanks in advance for your help.
