  1. With today's technology, there is no need to resort to any tricks. Use an AtariMax cart, STM324 microcontroller, floppy disk, etc. By putting 128KB on the cart, you game can run on lower specced machines (>64K) too. Allows more time to be spent on development and less on deployment, while increasing profit margins. As Jon said, using EPROMs have to be "the most expensive storage medium known to man".
  2. And an even better web client: https://kiwiirc.com/client/chat.freenode.com/##atari
  3. Easiest route is making games for iOS, although people don't like paying more than a buck per game. Apple takes care of everything. For the PC, look at getting your games on Steam. If you still want to do it yourself, PayPal or Gumroad both make it easy to sell digital goods. As for the digital tax, it's not any more work than what is happening now with selling physical goods. Video61 collects sales tax from MN residents (Or they should be, although there is no reference to this on their order page). Customers from other states are responsible for paying their own tax. In Ohio, it's a question on the state income tax form. You only have to worry about sales tax to customers in the state you reside.
  4. This sums up the problem with first version. It's not the individual instruments being out of tune with themselves. It's the fact that each instrument is playing in a different key. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Over time my Pac-Man skills have not been increasing with my age. Under Mame and on the 20th Reunion Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga I've been playing the speed up versions. Is there a speed up version available for the 8-bit versions? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. If I was doing a cartridge release I'd be looking at piggybacking off the work of Electrotrains and use the STM32F4 as the cartridge: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/257488-racing-the-atari-bus-with-a-stm32f4-microcontroller/?p=3639094 128K and a cost of ~$13.
  7. Their stance on the subject is why I won't be purchasing it either. I really, really, REALLY want this game, but the lack of a cheaper digital only version is stopping me from buying it. The last time this came up with Venture I ended up buying the ColecoVision version.
  8. Follow up article with video: When Atari Ruled the World http://www.pcmag.com/article/352782/when-atari-ruled-the-world
  9. Don't you have an Ultimate Cart? Then you can just copy the rom to an SD card and be good to go. I'm apprehensive about anything that hasn't been continually tested on the real hardware.
  10. I'm surprised more of this projects don't use the royalty free DisplayPort standard. Mini-DisplayPort frees up a ton of space.
  11. Stumbled on this through Google News: Atari 8-bit fans: this is your next read - ExtremeTech I don't know if it's worth the price though. Has anyone read it? (Be sure to check the comments!)
  12. And this conversation was what I needed to add ssl to my Atari Blog: https://gtia.com.
  13. StartSSL was banned for good reason. They were back dating certificates and issuing certificates for companies they shouldn't have been. For free, there are two options: 1) Cloudflare - You put Cloudflare in front of your website, and they offer SSL and IPv6. Problem is that traffic from Cloudflare to your site is unencrypted, but all traffic from Cloudflare to visitors is. For your website, this would probably be fine. Paypal's SSL takes over when the real information gets transferred. 2) Let's Encrypt - Sounds like you've looked at this. The 90 day expiration isn't a big deal since Let's Encrypt is designed to automatically update the certificates for you. That works if you have shell access and can run a cron job.
  14. It's the 600XL that only has RF. The 65XE has composite/svideo. It doesn't have the ECI. The 800XL is probably the best one to get. Pretty abundant, and you may get lucky and all the chips will be socketed.
  15. I like the Dell FP2007 LCD monitors. Composite, S-Video, VGA, and DVI. Plus, they're 4:3 monitors. With Bryan's UAV mod, the display looks phenomenal.
  16. I see a 1050 also. But the printer looks like it goes with a C64, and there is a TI/99 cartridge in the one box. I wonder what else is there...
  17. Wouldn't the Ultimate Cart or Unocart be more flexible?
  18. I've only installed the C, and it is impressive! Can't wait to find time to try the D. Sent from my ASUS Chromebook Flip C100PA using Tapatalk
  19. Wait until Bryan Edward's UAV mod is available. Best s-video I've seen on the 8-bit and a breeze to install. Do a search for UAV for more info. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I wouldn't worry too much about setting up a ramdisk, modern flash drives (SIDE2, IDE+, etc.) are faster than ramdisks. On the other hand, you'll want some extended memory if you are running SDX. An IDE+ would get you SDX, RT8, and storage. You'd have to use an SIO device for the serial port though. Going the U1M + SIDE2 would free up the PBI for an MIO, but it would require modification of one of the 8-bits.
  21. Mine came today, don't know when I'll have time to install it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I'd be interested in two assembled drives. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Those two only require more memory if you don't have a flash cart. An 8Mb Atarimax cart will do Space Harrier. For Mario Bros you can find the original cart or try to get an Ultimate/Uno cart. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
