Ultimate Cart (SD multicart) - preorders thread
gozar replied to electrotrains's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Is there a way to change the SD slot to one like on the older Raspberry Pis? The current slot won't let you use a micro SD to SD adapter: At the top is the adapter. You can see it is a little thicker than an SD card. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I didn't want to get started into a Metro/full screen apps discussion! I brought it up because on such a resolution strained device almost every app will be running full screen anyway, so I assumed it would free up cycles.

I love the look and progress of the GUI, but was wondering. What about moving away from the window model and toward a full screen multitasking model like what is used on mobile devices? Each full screen app could have multiple windows (like the desktop app with a menu bar) but each app would always have the entire screen to themselves. Apps in the background would never have to worry about drawing anything. Would it be possible then for apps to use different graphics modes? Just thinking out loud. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I've been offered an Asteroids Delixe cabinet, but I have no idea what it's worth. Is there a resource or something to help find the value of arcade cabinets?

In development - SD card based Multicart
gozar replied to electrotrains's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I'm planning on buying a couple, and I already have the micro SD to SD adapter from a Raspberry Pi project, so I'll be able to test. If you are familiar with the Model A and B Pi, the SD card sticks out quite a bit, but with the Micro SD adapter it's basically flush. -

Sounds simple enough. :-) So what's it going to take to get an SDX driver and stackable cartridge support? I'm willing to help fund it! -

Full size SD card! I was assuming it would be micro SD for space. :-) Looks good! How hard is it going to be to update the firmware? -
I could see two relatively easy ways to do this, both include using a teensy Arduino ($16). One is to gut the machine, wire the current keyboard into the Teensy and write the code to convert the matrix (see http://makezine.com/2014/08/07/the-ti-pi-a-raspberry-pi-powered-ti-994a/).If you don't want to gut a machine, wire it into the joystick ports and write some code for the machine to send the key presses out to the Teensy, which then appears as a keyboard to the computer.

So I found a little demo reel of the old Adlib cards with the OPL2, it does sound better than I remember:

The Atari 850, the most pointless device Atari ever made...
gozar replied to Level42's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Should they have removed the RF modulator from the 800 and made it a business machine like the Apple II (slots, 80 columns) and kept the 400 as the home version? How much harder was it for Atari by keeping the RF modulator in their computer lines? -

Reading some of the magazines from the early 80s, it would have been a pretty big deal. It looks like CP/M was still a player up until 82 or 83. -
U1MB + 1200XL = troubleshooting help please
gozar replied to DrVenkman's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Check the ROM socket, it might be loose. When I installed my 32-in-1 in my 800XL I had issues. It looked ok, and ran with the default rom, but with the 32-in-1 it would have random problems. I completely re-did the socket and that helped. -

Wait, this cart could also be used as a hard drive? -
Has anyone ordered from Atarimax lately?
gozar replied to GlowingGhoul's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Heck, I'd try to come over from NW Ohio! -

One other idea, is there anyway to support stackable carts? For example, SDX and Action!? That and an RTC that emulated an R-time 8 would be amazing. -
Wait, no paddles?!?!

Yes, I had to move Altirra out of a folder and put it in my main Atari8 folder. Since everything it accesses will be in the same folder or lower, it uses relative paths for the files, and can transport between machines/drive letters. My setup: owncloud Atari8 Support ATARIXL.ROM ATARIBAS.ROM Disks ROMS Altirra64.exe altirra.ini Hopefully that makes sense. :-)

Advice please: Ordered U1MB, Which Machine?
gozar replied to DrVenkman's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Your 1200XL will also need to have a 28 pin socket installed for the OS, which isn't that hard if you're doing the rest of the upgrade. :-) As for the Side 2 cart, I just took the case off and slide the bare board into the machine. The 1200XL basically consumes the cart, so it doesn't really look that bad and I don't have to modify the case. That being said, the Side 2 did fit for me, but it was really, REALLY tight. I would not recommend it. -
It already is a portable app with altirra.ini in the same folder as the executable. I keep it in an Atari8 folder in Owncloud, so I have the same set up no matter what machine I'm on.

Has anyone caught National Geographic's American Geniuses? The Gates vs. Jobs episode was not very well researched, and even had a few cringe worthy moments. Because of all they got wrong I haven't wanted to watch the other episodes, such as Edison vs. Tesla.

New (alt) BIOS for Ultimate 1MB/Incognito
gozar replied to flashjazzcat's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
If I want to test this on real hardware, can I use an AtariMax Flash cart to recover? Or what kind of USB ROM programmer would I need? -

OSS originally announced Action! for the C64 and the Apple II. At least, I think the Apple can't remember. :-) And was Action! used as a cross assembler for software for the Apple II?
