  1. The AtariMax carts can be flashed from USB with the USB programmer: http://atarimax.com/flashcart/documentation/ There is also adapters available to allow you to dump cartridges you own.
  2. When I installed it in my 1200XL, I followed each CPU pin until I found a pad on the motherboard, and then made my solder connections there. I didn't want to solder directly to the CPU.
  3. You hit A for enhanced density, which gives you a 130K disk instead of hitting Y to format it which should have given you a DD disk since you set it as a DD disk. :-)
  4. I'm thinking about installing one of my bare SIO2SDs into my XF551 that's been converted to a 3.5" drive. There is space for it at the front on top of the drive, so the display will poke through the top and the SD can be access right about the floppy. I've got a couple of questions: What can I use to fabricate buttons? I would like it to sort of look stock. I'm thinking of re-painting the entire drive. It has bad yellowing where looks like it sat directly in the sun, but had a book or something on the front half, so it's two different shades. Plus the 3.5" drive doesn't match the beige faceplate, which doesn't match the case. What's the best way to paint the whole thing? I usually use it with a 1200XL or 800XL, but it may change to using it with my Atari 800 once my Incognito arrives, so the color and buttons probably should reflect the 800 colors... :-) Can I solder the 5 wires directly onto the SIO plugs? Or is there a better way to wire it in?
  5. Be sure to check out the whole story about the Punta Cana installation: http://www.atarimuseum.com/otherprojects/alan/clubmed-alank.pdf Fascinating.
  6. I do have one, which I really like. Is anyone selling them right now? An IDE+ 3.0 with 512K memory upgrade and flashable OS would be a really nice upgrade for most people, since it would be plug and play. But this is getting way off topic in the Altirra 2.6 thread... :-)
  7. But the Incognito is in pretty short supply, I've been waiting 16 months for mine. And it still requires installation. A true pass through, flash updateable, SDX cart with RTC would be a pretty nice thing to have. Kind of like the SIDE2 except with a cart connector instead of compact flash. Although I don't know how well SDX works with only 64K (but there are plug and play memory upgrades too).
  8. The biggest obstacle to wider adoption of SD is the lack of a pass through cart option. It would be nice to see a new pass through cart with built in RTC. But maybe that isn't a big issue anymore?
  9. That's the ingot power supply. Cut the cord off of it and throw it in the trash before it fries your machine. They are notorious for going bad and taking the computer down with it.
  10. I am now the proud owner of a Monkey Wrench II cartridge, but unfortunately, it doesn't appear to work. :-( When plugged into the right and Atari Basic in the left it doesn't work. ? fre(0) is 8K less, so the machine sees the cart. Any ideas? (And for fun, booting Microsoft Basic off of a disk with both carts plugged in leaves you with a little over 4K free :-)
  11. I started my 10 year old daughter out with TBXL, but the line editing is pretty tough for people that have grown up with full screen editors (in the 80s we didn't know any better :-). Action may be the next step up for her, the editor is a lot nicer and the edit/compile/run cycle isn't that bad.
  12. I was thinking a version of TBXL that didn't require line numbers would be nice, but then it wouldn't be much different from Action! so why bother. :-) With the source code to Action! now available, I'd selfishly like to see more work done to it.
  13. That looks like the Sega knockoff. Beware of using it on an memory upgraded machine. On my Rambo'ed 800XL it quits working in a minute or two. On my 64K 600XL it doesn't have issues, except for the fact it feels really cheap and has an extra short cable. :-)
  14. I just used a regular hole punch that we already had.
  15. I came across this device tonight while looking for compact flash solutions for my SE/30: CF AztecMonster CF-3.5inc. SCSI Converter Card New for Vintage Computer It's a little pricey, but any reason this wouldn't work on an MIO?
  16. Finally got a copy of Monkey Wrench! (Of course, I also got an 800 and 810 out of the deal, plus another copy of Action! which is cool. :-)
  17. Very cool! Thanks!! (Now to see if I still know how to burn DC games.
  18. It raises an interesting point, what if Atari banned mail order sales of the computer lines like Apple did?
  19. I'll just add that StartSSL offers free SSL certificates, which would get rid of the untrusted error.
  20. Looks like RF but on the wrong channel. But you're using the AV connection, aren't you?
  21. After being an 800XL guy for 30 year, my main machine is now a 1200XL. Why? I don't know. It's a good looking machine with a good keyboard. You do need to clean up the video to really use it. With a U1M and Side2, I don't even miss the PBI.
  22. I like the new label, I may have to do that to my 1702...
  23. I went with a 4:3 ratio (1600x1200) screen and rotated it. The 16:9 and 16:10 screens just don't work for me. I really like the dell 2007fp. Bonus is the composite and svideo inputs in addition to VGA and DVI.
  24. Does anyone remember which issue of Analog had a program that let you do windows in basic using a graphics 0 screen and the graphic characters?
