I think I might have done that in the past but can’t remember. I will go down and try it.
I just realized I had my fujinet plugged in, I might be wrong but I may have at one time had of unplugged (didn’t have it yet) and it may have worked. I will go down and fool around with it a bit.
I’ll let you know if it works. Like I said it is no big thing I was just hoping I could have everything plugged in to the sio and just power on or power off what I wanted to use. -
I have an Atarimax sio2pc-usb. Would love to get a case for it. I don’t use it much but currently I have a cardboard box around it to prevent shorts.
I also have a syschek on back order from vintage computer center so I would love one of those.
let me know who and where to go to get printed copies of these.

Not sure if the percom isolates sio or is isolating sio properly... If you have a 1050 or other drive on with the percom still connected is there an issue?
What happens if you pull the percom power cord?
Well I don’t have a 1050 but I have an xf551 and that one works with the perc on the sio chain. I didn’t get a chance to try it with the percs unplugged but I have a power strip with individual switches for each outlet on order (I want to use they because getting to the back of all the drives to power them up is a real pain in the rear, this way I can power them individually from the power strip. ) when I get that installed I will give it a whirl. -
Hey all,
I have 3 Percom drives and a set of drives connected to the ATR.
In normal circumstances in the 80s I am guessing it would have been very unlikely to have both a percom and atr connected to the same Atari, but in these days things are different.
Sooooo, I have an sio splitter and had both a Percom drive and the atr plugged into the splitter. Percom works fine, but if I turn off the Percom and turn on the atr and try to use those drives it doesn’t see the drives.
This is no big deal but does anyone know why the Atr won’t boot with a Percom in the chain?

I got some hd disks a while back. They did work but I found the oxide coating on the disk started coming off nearly the 2nd I tried to use them. I don’t know if it was just the pack I got or that is the way the 5.25 hd disks are formulated.
There are some dd disks for sale out there just keep looking. -

Very very cool. I saw the video on Fuji net and cp/m.
I don’t have my ATR-8000 networked so I have to rely on disk images. I am doing it old school.
Going to definitely play around with your stuff.
thanks!

I don't know if anyone is interested, but I managed to extract a few disk images from the Wizard of OS (Osborne) collection to HFE(HXC-2001/Gotek) Image Format. These "should" load right up without need to use DISKDEF. WordStar is in there and it works, the other stuff is a crap shoot.
I can't seem to get all the Wizard of OS images to read so I am going through them all and going to extract them for my own collection.

All you have to do is set the volume mount to point to wherever you need it to point.

I want to apologize. I had the volumes backwards. I am really sorry. I was basing the setup to the pihole setup I did and it was the same but i got confused with the mount point.
I got it running. Thanks again for your help and your contribution of this container.

Gotcha. I think what the issue is that the data folder is pointing within the container. When I get some ambition it will download docker and try to change the image to allow the data to point outside the container.
Thanks for the help.

Quick question on this.
I downloaded the x64 version of the tschak TNFS server.
installed the container and checked with the above python script and it is running.
now my issue is how to get it to point to the Atari folder.
I have a docker folder in my synology volume, created a TNFS folder and inside that a folder named Atari. This is where I would like to keep all my files.
I went to the volume tab of the container added that file folder and included what I believe is the correct mount path. However when I check it with the python script there is nothing there. No files or file folders.
I am assuming my mount point is probably incorrect but I have tried a whole pile of different mount points to no avail.
What would be the correct mount point? The folder is located at:
volume1/docker/TNFS/Atari
(I have tried that as the mount point to no avail).
any help appreciated.

The SYSCHECK 2.2 mentioned isn't just a diagnostic device, it also includes a RAMBO type 512kB external RAM upgrade and the choice of 4 OS's that are flashable.
Yes I realized that after I ordered it. That is great news.
I got a uav this week so going to try my hand at putting that in my 800xl. I am trying to get a readable dt-80 column display on my tv. I know it won’t be perfect but just hoping it will clean it up just enough that I can use it when I boot into cp/m. -
I actually meant to delete the last message. I found a few IMD images. Ran them through the hxc2001 emulator software and converted them to HFE and I was able to read the images. I downloaded two copies of Wordstar but the first image had some spelling word processor and the other had some RBBS files on it.
There was one site that had HFE images for download but I just gave them a shot but they didn’t work.
I bookmarked a few sites that have cp/m imd images for download. Going to try to download some of those and see if I can get those working.
Sadly, I don’t think the hxc software can create and actual cp/m disk. There are cpmtools but I don’t think I have the time or patients to futz around with that.
If I have any success I will let you know.
Thanks for the help! -
I've had zero luck with jumpering a Gotek to any but Id's 0 and 1. There's no provision for it in the hardware. It would be fairly simple to flip some wires on the cable to accomplish this though.
Best,
Jeff
Hey Jeff,
What format did you put your gotek cpm software in?
I got my hxc connected to the atr and CPM sees it. (As drive c but it works). I went to the software created a blank ms-dos floppy (being the closest preset i could find) copied the files for word star and data star (I downloaded them from one of the big cpm repositories) on to the floppy images. When I try dir the disk I get no files.
Did you use special settings for the disk images so the atr cpm could read it?
I did try diskdef with a few different disk types but no luck. -
I was planning on ordering a u1m but if this is in the works I am gonna wait. Count me in. This looks great. I can solder but would always attempt a solderless version on boards of this age.
I don’t think it was mentioned but is it possible to get an 80 column option on a future revision? -
It's a crap shoot for chips sometimes, just pop the western digital 2797 in and see if it'll work, as it's pin compatible no harm should come of it.
Alrighty. I still have those chips coming from China. They should be here this week. And the one I just got I am trying to get a replacement for. So if none of those pan out I will try to get a 2797.
Thanks for the info. -
I am trying to get my non-CPM atr working by way of finding a 100% working 1797.
I got one that claimed to be New-old stock. Popped it in and it does nothing but read the disk and boot error. The disks are fine.
I have two coming from China but don’t have much faith in those working.
And as indicted earlier in this thread it seems like the unicorn electronics are all old pulls and of the 6 I got from them none of them are 100%.
So..... does anyone have a line on 100% 1797s? Also, I have been doing some research and it appears that the wd2797 was the replacement. The pins look fairly compatible. Does anyone know if the 2797 chips will work in the atr? I am just looking for an alternate if I can’t find any good 1797s.
Thanks. -
Ah. I just broke down and bought a syschek.
Being that I read that the xe board’s traces come up pretty easily I don’t really want to stress the board out anymore than necessary.
Thanks for all the suggestions. -
Thanks for the input. There isn’t an easy way to determine what ram chip(s) may be bad is there? I know there is that diagnostic hardware available but I really hate to kick in the money for something there is a good chance I will only ever use once.
-
I hate to reincarnate a dead thread but, I got a desoldering station for Xmas and was thinking about installing an ultimate 1 Meg.
Now, I know there are issues with my extended ram on my 130xe but if I installed the u1m in the 130 would it solve the issues I had with my side2 cart? While I am at it I might install sockets for the original ram chips but if I can get around my extended ram issue with the u1m that would be great.
Thanks for any info. -
This is really directed to Jeff but anyone can chime in.
I have an ultimate cart I am using to emulate the dt80 cart. It works fine and I can boot cp/m but the display is very mushy and hard to read. (Same if I try to load ice-t)
I saw Jeff’s screen print and his 80 column cp/m looks pretty good.
I have an unmodified 800xl and 130xe using composite Into a composite to hdmi converter box. Connected to my 39inch lcd tv.
I have vga on tv. I thought maybe I could get a better picture for 80 columns through vga but wanted to check with you guys before I spend more money. -
It shouldn't be too hard to do a utility on the atari to transfer files to a cp/m filesystem disk to a drive connected to the atr8000.
Just need to keep track of the sector numbers for a double sided drive as cp/m addresses sides in a different way.
James
Since the gotek thing seems to be the easiest way to do it maybe we can put together a few CPM disk images for the ATR. Sort of like the great Atari games pack.
This weekend I will have to play with my hxc2000 I have for the st. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can set it as ds2 and use it as drive c> on CPM. -
A terminal program is the way without any additional hardware. A Gotek would be awesome of course, and solve a lot of troubles.
For the ATR8000, the only term program I'm aware of is the version of MODEM7 shipped with the CP/M disk. This is because the ATR8000 uses a software UART, thus simply changing a couple of values in a program's configuration, as with most CP/M boxen, won't do the trick. The good thing is that MODEM7, as shipped for the ATR supports Xmodem and XmodemCRC (Once called Christiansen Protocol, after Ward Christiansen who wrote it).
A GOTEK is the preferred way of course, as it is fast and allows you to use the images you move to the USB stick directly.
Best,
Jeff
Gotcha! I know my hxc2000 will work with the atr. Is it possible to do a sector copy a cp/m application disk on the Atari? Sort of like we did many many pages ago in this thread.
Is found a few places that has some cp/m software in zipped up.
Any real killer apps that were on cp/m. I know about word star. Was looking at getting a copy of that. -
Well, after numerous months, tons of help from you guys, multiple chip swaps and a bunch of hours, I have figured out my CP/M issue. The 1797 was the problem. None of the 1797 I got were 100% error free. For some reason, they worked fine in Atari mode but Cp/m mode they failed! I swapped out the 1787 from my good atr into the one I had issues with and wala it worked.
I am guessing maybe the 1797s I got weren’t truely new old stock but pulls.
Well, I am up and running.
I dumped the 3.02+ rom and attached it to this message. I am guessing you guys can figure out if there are any differences compared to all the roms floating around.
Now, what is the easiest way to get CP/M apps from the internet to the ATR without a pc with a disk drive?

The UAV Rev. D Video Upgrade Thread
in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Posted
I finally got to install my UAV into my 800xl.
I had a lot of fun doing it. There were some oddities that were not covered in the instructions that I was wondering about.
I got mine from the Brewing Academy.
Installed everything and that went fine. I also did part of the 800xl s-video mod.
I was getting a real bad moire pattern when it was installed per the instructions. I was able to get this cleared up by NOT connecting the color in wire to the uav and not lifting the c54 capacitor. (From the 800xl s-video mod). Everything is outputting via s-video on the regular monitor connector.
If looks awesome I was just wondering if not connecting the color in wire to the uav is going to cause issues down the line?
Also, I have a cheaper de-soldering station. It worked pretty well. What is the optimal desoldering temp to not damage the component or board?
Thanks!
