http://tygerbug.deviantart.com/gallery/ Hi everyone! My name is Garrett Gilchrist. I've worked as an artist and filmmaker for twenty years. Recently, Team Pixelboy Games commissioned me to draw/paint the covers for Knight Lore, Wizard of War and QBiqs for the Colecovision. More recently than that, Intellivision Revolution commissioned me to draw/paint the covers to Blow Out, Hard Hat, Space Cadet and Inty Basic Showcase Volume 1, as well as some others we're not talking about yet. You can see my work in full quality here: http://tygerbug.deviantart.com/gallery/ I've loved working with Team Pixelboy and Intellivision Revolution. I'm available for paid work if anyone needs any.

I'm very proud to share my box art for Team Pixelboy's release of Midway's Wizard of Wor. http://tygerbug.deviantart.com/art/Wizard-of-Wor-584191939 Updating the characters of this 1980 arcade favorite turned out to be a big task which took a couple of weeks. All the characters were drawn and inked at a large size [11x17 or larger] to really include a lot of detail, and the full-size art is enormous. At that link you can also check out the original pencil sketches and progression to show how the characters evolved to their final state. Previously, I created new art for Team Pixelboy’s Colecovision port of the 1984 Rare game Knight Lore. http://tygerbug.deviantart.com/art/Knight-Lore-533373239 It's been nice to be part of Team Pixelboy's final year. A lot of good art by good artists has been commissioned for these games. I hope that's appreciated. -

Very exciting! I think I'm allowed to tell you that Team Pixelboy's Colecovision release of Wizard of Wor will feature brand-new cover art by myself, like their release of Knight Lore. I've just been drawing the characters today! Here was my cover for Knight Lore. http://tygerbug.deviantart.com/art/Knight-Lore-533373239 -

Exciting stuff as usual! In mid-April, Luc approached me to create the box art for Team Pixelboy's Colecovision port of Knight Lore. I delivered the final version in mid-May. http://tygerbug.deviantart.com/art/Knight-Lore-533373239 There was a lot of history which inspired and informed the way the characters were portrayed. The 1984 isometric game, ported from the MSX by Riddler, stars Sabreman, an adventurer and part-time werewolf who also starred in such 80s Rare games as Sabre Wulf, Underwurlde and Pentagram. Sabreman was clearly a Rare mascot character. He would have returned on the XBOX in Rare's game Sabreman Stampede, but the game was cancelled. Sabreman had a cameo in "Banjo-Tooie," and starred in "Sabre Wulf" for the Game Boy Advance. Sabre Wulf is also a star of the Killer Instinct series. These early games were rereleased in 2015 in the Rare Replay collection, but in their promo art Sabreman was depicted as the tiny, indistinct pixel art from the 80s games rather than the redesigns he received later. I wanted to show a more definitive Sabreman, with something approximating his cartoony looks from the N64 and XBox eras. The werewolf and wizard took a more realistic tone, though I redrew the wizard to have more cartoony proportions (still based on his posing in the original game's art). The game has been remade unofficially several times for modern platforms. Its isometric gameplay where you explore dangerous rooms in an extensive dungeon may remind you of NES titles like Solstice (though the actual Famicom version of Knight Lore by Jaleco isn't super accurate). Much of the background was rendered in 3D via Poser using existing models, and then heavily reworked in Photoshop. The logo was recreated first in Photoshop then in 3D via Poser. http://teampixelboy.com/knight_lore.php -
