  1. So my wife and I had some time today and really wanted to play a light gun game. We ended up picking up 2 Guncon 2s and Time Crisis 3. I didn't realize it needed the video cable thing and didn't get it with my guns. Luckily I found out I could use 2 y cables and a regular RCA cable through my switch and it worked great. We had a blast after that 10 dollar surprise requirement. That's what I get for being a bit ignorant, though.

I see a few other Guncon 2 games for the PS2, any other good ones?

I also managed to picked up Paper Mario 1000 Year Door, Smugglers Run Warzone, Lego Star Wars 2, Monsters Inc and PK Out of Shadows for 45 bucks on the way in because a thrift in the mall had a little sale. My kids will probably love the 2 Disney titles.

  2. I ended up installing it and caught a Charmander in my game room. My son got a kick out of that but it unsurprisingly reminds me of Ingress a lot and I doubt I'll keep on it at all. Super cool idea none-the-less.

  3. I'm a minority here but I really enjoyed it. I need to finish it still but I've had a lot of fun. I never worried about things being necessary or not and just enjoyed the gameplay. I thought there was a bit more problem solving than 64 (which I still own and play) and I thought the non flying parts were fun. Gamepad play is certainly odd and I wouldn't want tons of games using it but I'm the instance I enjoy it.

Edit: I had lots of fun with the robot!

  4. Honestly I don't see a point to supporting outdated formats where they aren't necessary. I enjoy my disc and cartridge consoles but I see no reason to have one purely to have the format. With things like greenlight and the still living homebrew scene I'm not sure why a box dedicated to this would be enticing as anything but a novelty. The chameleon always struck me as redundant at best.

  5. I would think tape backup is great because you do a backup them they sit in a dark closet in a climate controlled space unless someone hoses something and they are called into action. The library need paper backups might see higher use but still don't touch something like a Disney movie hammered into a cheap deck hundreds of times.

  6. I wanted to like Dark Souls but I find the older I get the less time I have to play games, and playing a game that forces me to repeat the same section for the 42nd time because it keeps sucker-punching me is not as enjoyable as it once was. By the time I beat some sections I didn't even feel the satisfaction I might have once felt beating a really tough section, I just felt like I had wasted my time.

I have a very similar approach. I put in MDK2 a while back on Dreamcast and I ran into the some of the harder areas that I recall grinding through as a teenager and getting a thrill out of it but now I'm just like eh, next! I like a challenge but I think I prefer to get it in other areas of my life at this point. I don't mind saying I like my games to be accessible and not require a large investment. Some genres I have a high level of skill in from years of play but otherwise, eh, I don't mind something on the easy side that's not super long. Maybe I'm just not hardcore anymore.

  7. I would think until the fans of the first generation systems die we are only adding ranks to the amount of people aging to a place where they can afford to collect. I found some bank statements from college and slightly after before I said eff this and joined the Navy. I had like a few bucks at the end of each month and I don't recall spending time at bars or bopping around town. I was worryingly broke for quite a few years. Fast forward a few years and I have great employment in a hot field and I can put money into the hobby again. I imagine a lot of my peers are entering or have entered this phase in the past few years and added to the ranks. I'm sure the youtube culture supports and validates this hobby strongly but at the same time it doesn't exactly reach out and get you. I really got back into it via this website (so blame yourselves!).

For about a year I ran a little blog where I'd talk about games I picked up or played in a slightly humorous light and after I dropped it due to life and figuring no one cared much I did get few messages from half acquaintances that they had been living vicariously through the text. They had little interest on jumping in but they enjoyed reading about the experiences.

  8. I'm pretty sure there are plenty here that either own or have worked in used game shops. Is there often a threshold on the amount of games that will likely just sit on the shelf? There's two shops in our mall. One is a collectible shop that's sort of a pawn shop and the other is an actual used games store with a few other locations in the area. The used game shop is actually more annoying to go to because of the raw amount of just filler to decent games.

  9. I'm a Weirdo!

Wait...uh yeah as long as it's non-working gear! I agree with everyone who said that! Strangely I generally don't want to see anything working turned into art. Yet I don't really have any problem with a belt buckle made of an NES controller, though I always assumed those were non-working to start with....But now I'm starting to wonder...How did I know those were non-working? Can I read minds? HMmmmmm..

That's just a strange intersection of the giant belt buckle crowed and the game collector crowd. Shudder.

    :-p
