Or PSX, for that matter. Where's the X in PlayStation?
Even worse, there was a PSX: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSX_(video_game_console)
I've read that PSX was an early codename for the PlayStation and it just sort of stuck.

In the vein of the Double Dragon post... The Yoshi games appear to depend on Yoshi's casting their unborn children at enemies to protect a benevolent master.

It also depends on how any games you buy. I don't want a wall of games. I just want to have some fun games to play and my favorites I'd rather have the cart for vice a flashcart or what not. so a few games at 50-100 bucks, eh, that's not that bad over the course of a hobby. If you want complete collections in a specific condition you probably will be upset as a number of games creep up but you are also a bit of an anomaly and the market is probably not going to support you. So yeah, it's guys with goals like mine that ruin your day. I'm going to see something that might be 20 bucks over priced to me and think "Eh, it's probably the only item I'll pick up for a month or two". Past 100 bones and I'm just not going to play ball, though. I will totally agree there. In the sea of great games I'm not willing to spend double to triple the entry fee to fun.

Doom 3 is the only one I recall being very technically dark. All that technology, no tape to slap that damn flashlight on the rifle (without a mod).
Turok 2 ended up having some very dark areas when my last play. I'm not sure if that was a display issue, though.

I severely disliked the Wii controllers. Even the good games fell a bit flat for me. That's a sweet looking wall though. Very tasteful.

I don't begrudge anyone cost savings. Even if it's not passed directly to me. I still consider the price fair most of time. I do wish these protected the inserts better, though. My kids can make quick work of these out of just sheer clumsiness. I have a few games with tears in the the inserts from clumsy hands.

That's awesome. That means I might live in the twilight zone since it's so close to my place.
Funny. Everything is in color....
...How many colors?

I don't think I ever bought a boxed cartridge game. I'm not sure I bought a new game on a console until the Dreamcast era. In fact, Skies of Arcadia might have been the first new game I actually bought. Always used and very few games. Money was a real issue for us. Now I kind of want to. I have some Genesis boxes that I got in a lot recently but all this talk makes me want to own a cardboard box or two.
...screw this site....

My 4 year old has no real value associated with graphics. It's an experience I can't really relate to, being shown Xbox One, Wii U and NES or Genesis graphics all at the same time. He has no concept on the progression or state of the art. It's just a different game to him. Same thing with him "I want the donkey game!" "Can I play Stonic?" (sonic).
Sweet TV, I dig the vibe.

'GCN' still confuses me.
I recall there being some collision between the Neo Geo Pocket Color and the GameCube in common usage. If I remember right GCN is the Nintendo abbreviation for the US GameCube. A (very) brief foray to Google confirms this.

I don't find their online awesome. I find there isn't lag, but I find it disconnects a ton and fails to connect often as well.
I found the Wireless capability less than awesome on the Wii U. Luckily I have kept boxes of various computer crap over the years and had a USB <-> wired Ethernet adapter that was compatible. After that things were great. Nintendo's online platform is still practically non-existent compared to the the real state of the art, though.
I think The Wii U is great because it's practically designed for me. Years of PC online gaming left me really tired of toxic communities. I don't even want to engage any anymore. I never really use voice chat because 98% of the time it's just used to transport hate and discontent into my living room. Half my life ago I probably would have had fun with it but it's just old now. If I see that little mic icon next to a player on Xbox Live I usually just mute it. Nothing is added to my experience. (I periodically test this, I'm yet to be proven wrong). I have lots of little streaming boxes I used for media applications making the Wii U awkward use of the Gamepad there a non-thing. I have yet to take strongly to a lot of modern incarnations of genres I like and open world games I often feel nothing for (before Xenoblade). I buy around 15 games a generation so the volume is fine. I have 13 or 14 and I like them all.
I'm not at all the target audience, though. My view on the Wii U's value or success isn't very useful. If the NX doesn't address some broader appeal I see them losing some relevancy and at least not existing the way we are used to. As mentioned previously Nintendo seems pretty lean and somewhat self-sufficient. I don't see some sudden exit of the market myself but I could see a world where they aren't on my entertainment center anymore.

I didn't throw it away, but I did drop my squish Game & Watch during a drinking and gaming party and the two hinges broke. Always regretted that. I do still have it.

I get confused any time I read about the PS2 HD / ISO ripping process. It's littered with acronyms and tools and awful grammar.

My mother did step in and return a brand new Virtual Boy I bought for $20 when Shopko had them on clearance. I played with it for a bit and she thought it would give me a brain tumor. We both didn't think of the possible value in just storing it, so it was a battle I guess I was more or less willing to lose. Would love to be able to flip that boxed Virtual Boy console nowadays. I also missed on a $20 boxed Genesis III console that sat on the Toys r Us clearance shelf well into the 32-bit era, it must have been there for two years at least. Always thought it was funny sitting there, now that memory is staring right back at me with the last laugh.
I bought one of those Genesis 3s at a KB Toys in the same situation. I bought it over the 80bazillion Jaguars and Virtual Boys on the shelves. I picked wrong. The 3 I got was incredibly fragile and I don't see it as having much value over the 2 I now have. I had a lot of fun with it but I wish I'd picked up a Jaguar since now I'm not willing front the cash for the novelty of playing a Jaguar.

Honestly 60% of the reason my son has a 3ds is so I have something to take away.

Remember, it's not just the brightness or battery life. It's the screen blur. Ever try playing side scrollers on a GameGear? I think it would constitute as torture in some countries, haha
.I think it was Sonic Triple Trouble where I basically just ran to the right and jumped, eventually finding myself at the big ring unsure as to how I got there. The screen on the GG was terrible, especially for Sega's flagship series.

It's an odd place to be that I very commonly see complaints against organizations like the RIAA and MPAA where consumers want to pay the artists or content creators directly for their work. Then we get something like patreon that I gather sort of does just that and I see all this very strange language used against content creators for using it. I'm not sure what is required to be viewed as legitimate but I'm certainly happy I'm not under this sort of scrutiny and criticism.

I saw 'Classic Game Room - The Rise and Fall of the Internet's Greatest Video Game Review Show' on I think hulu the other night? Had me curious. I didn't watch it, just noted it was there. Immediately reminded me of this thread.

I have no problem with the Wii U itself. Between it and my XBone I much prefer it and play it quite a bit more. (My PC is basically a project1999 and CS box once in a while at this point) I like the controller and the Gamepad. I would like a little more use out of the pad, but I think what I get is still good. I also think the games are great fun and executed well. The system itself is incredibly reliable and just gets me to a game quickly.
The thing is I don't want great games from them anymore. They do that all the time, it's not very interesting. I don't want a good controller. That's simply required for entry. I'm used to solid controls, good music, colorful scenes, etc. What I want is something different. Even if isn't the product of a 30 year refinement process. I consider the new Marios great games but they are still just hyper polished versions of the same run. Good work but I'd love to see that level of care applied elsewhere. I got Xenoblade and Splatoon! Wonderful. Most of the rest tread veeeeeery closely to the Mario universe.
I love the Wii U but I'm looking for something a bit different out of the next generation of Nintendo. Innovative is a scary word to me after I met motion controls. (looks longingly disappointed at Metroid Prime 3) After that they may as well leave the home console market as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not averse to a system like this but for the most part I'm pretty sure I can spend minimal time putting together something that works out of stuff I have around. If I spent any money at all I'd have a fine little all in one. I imagine the same reasons these are getting popular to build and sell are the same reasons I won't shell out much dough for something that's not very refined with solid build quality and a good reputation. It's just really easy and cheap to do now.

Playing Luigi's Mansion for the first time. Great fun, but why does he hump everything?

There are ISOs around with different burns to test with. I haven't used them but I had relative faith in the guy talking about it for what it's worth.

Segagen, if I recall it's name a decade ago, did cause a bit of a rift in the community back then. At the time it was currently commercial in the smash pack and people wanted to use it over the available solutions that weren't pirated. That probably didn't help.
I don't ever recall the Dreamcast being a very good emulation console outside of the relative convenience for kids with low skill.

I keep meaning to try adjusting the laser using some calibration iso discs I have because one of mine is finicky. Music cds should be reliable though.

Games you think are worth their high price?

My roommate in college is a bit of a JRPG-o-ophile and I know he adored the Suikoden games. I've meant to give them a spin.
