  1. Honestly 60% of the reason my son has a 3ds is so I have something to take away.
  2. I think it was Sonic Triple Trouble where I basically just ran to the right and jumped, eventually finding myself at the big ring unsure as to how I got there. The screen on the GG was terrible, especially for Sega's flagship series.
  3. It's an odd place to be that I very commonly see complaints against organizations like the RIAA and MPAA where consumers want to pay the artists or content creators directly for their work. Then we get something like patreon that I gather sort of does just that and I see all this very strange language used against content creators for using it. I'm not sure what is required to be viewed as legitimate but I'm certainly happy I'm not under this sort of scrutiny and criticism.
  4. I saw 'Classic Game Room - The Rise and Fall of the Internet's Greatest Video Game Review Show' on I think hulu the other night? Had me curious. I didn't watch it, just noted it was there. Immediately reminded me of this thread.
  5. I have no problem with the Wii U itself. Between it and my XBone I much prefer it and play it quite a bit more. (My PC is basically a project1999 and CS box once in a while at this point) I like the controller and the Gamepad. I would like a little more use out of the pad, but I think what I get is still good. I also think the games are great fun and executed well. The system itself is incredibly reliable and just gets me to a game quickly. The thing is I don't want great games from them anymore. They do that all the time, it's not very interesting. I don't want a good controller. That's simply required for entry. I'm used to solid controls, good music, colorful scenes, etc. What I want is something different. Even if isn't the product of a 30 year refinement process. I consider the new Marios great games but they are still just hyper polished versions of the same run. Good work but I'd love to see that level of care applied elsewhere. I got Xenoblade and Splatoon! Wonderful. Most of the rest tread veeeeeery closely to the Mario universe. I love the Wii U but I'm looking for something a bit different out of the next generation of Nintendo. Innovative is a scary word to me after I met motion controls. (looks longingly disappointed at Metroid Prime 3) After that they may as well leave the home console market as far as I'm concerned.
  6. I'm not averse to a system like this but for the most part I'm pretty sure I can spend minimal time putting together something that works out of stuff I have around. If I spent any money at all I'd have a fine little all in one. I imagine the same reasons these are getting popular to build and sell are the same reasons I won't shell out much dough for something that's not very refined with solid build quality and a good reputation. It's just really easy and cheap to do now.
  7. Playing Luigi's Mansion for the first time. Great fun, but why does he hump everything? VID_20160106_193141640.mp4
  8. There are ISOs around with different burns to test with. I haven't used them but I had relative faith in the guy talking about it for what it's worth.
  9. Segagen, if I recall it's name a decade ago, did cause a bit of a rift in the community back then. At the time it was currently commercial in the smash pack and people wanted to use it over the available solutions that weren't pirated. That probably didn't help. I don't ever recall the Dreamcast being a very good emulation console outside of the relative convenience for kids with low skill.
  10. I keep meaning to try adjusting the laser using some calibration iso discs I have because one of mine is finicky. Music cds should be reliable though.
  11. I only played 1 and 10 I think. I like the games in 10 much more but I had many more good memories of 1. I have shared 10 with my son though so it's almost a wash there. For myself I prefer 10.
  12. Ooo I dig those manuals. Not in the market for more stuff for a bit though.
  13. I feel like the market is so big at this point you don't need some crazy market share to make money. Nintendo churns out fantastic first party titles. While I've owned 3/4 Sony systems and 2/3 MS systems I'm not as aware of their first party support. While I think many or most of us enjoy multiplayer gaming, many of us aren't concerned with KDR rankings anymore, making many of the highest selling titles not really a requirement. The age spread at this point seems far more balanced across the years. I know even the Wii U provides me with enough titles and the addition of practically any other system provides with me with a bit more balance. As it stands I think there's enough room for what is out there for a while. If steam manages to take root with it's awesome indy support and flexible console range things might get a bit crowded, forcing someone's hand but I'm not sure even that can do it. Maybe it's informative that other forms of media providers like music studios, book publishers, movie studios, etc all manage to have a much more crowded market and maintain variety.
  14. This weekend we played a lot of Epic Mickey: The Power of 2. I picked it up with Captain Toad and Duck Tales a while back for pretty cheap off Amazon sales. For what it is it's pretty fun so far. It's really slow going coop with an almost 4 year old. In fact, a few times I've held both controllers . You can turn off the second player to do the more technical team work yourself, though. I'm not very familiar with Disney's history but even without it I appreciate the style of the characters and levels. There is some pretty rough framerate and a few other rough gameplay edges but overall it's pretty fun. Definitely worth the 10 bucks or less it was. Also been playing through Luigi's Mansion on the GCN for the first time. I've had my 'cube since launch but never ended up buying or playing it. Really enjoy this game. So far it's significantly easier than the 3DS version but quite a lot of fun nonetheless.
  15. With video games, nostalgia will make me pick something up and play it but it won't make me play it for a long or again after that thin veneer over my memory wears off. With music or other art forms that are much more passive I might enjoy it more based on associated experiences though. Simple example: Skies of Arcadia (DC). Loved it and feel very fondly for it but the encounter rate is sooooo high I'd never slog through that or rate it well at this point.
  16. Maybe it's obvious but I found out I can move my saves over from the Wii SNES emulator to the SD2SNES and they are detected. I was happy since I didn't really feel like redoing the first 5 hours of Chrono Trigger.
  17. Obviously any level of access to the wrong person is unacceptable but I'd speculate part of the reason it wasn't made to be a big deal of is that it's not that uncommon. I had what appeared to be a similar issue at a bank website a few years ago. I never saw a report about that. I logged in one day and panicked when I saw my balance and a ton of debits I didn't know about. Then realized I didn't recognize the account number and scrolled up top to the name. Someone else (alphabetically similar, maybe related to the result, eh?). I'm pretty sure many of the more complex sites I access on any given day load largely from cache then update, making them all a fiddly bit away from being an open door or at least a window. Steam's is slightly more surprising to me in that I figured the client itself cached a whole lot as it's basically their own browser but with the sales changes I'm guessing they did a lot of extra content distribution and caching on top of whatever Christmas attacks went on. I used to wonder if the sales were already on my machine in some encrypted blob like the pre-release content. I guess that's not true.
  18. Getting the my X-Arcade dual stick setup and kiosk to put it all on a few years back stands out. I love arcades growing up but I was a bit too young while they still existed. Not the greatest hardware but it's still a blast and my wife likes a number of the game she played on a tv plugin unit growing up. Rocking my daughter to sleep last night to Chrono Trigger on my new SD2SNES is up there as well. My best memories are less because I got something I didn't have before and more from what I can share with other people.
  19. GameFAQs is the only videogame forum. League of Legends the only community. Hell on earth.
  20. I find the gamepad perfectly comfortable. I'm on the small side of average male. My son has trouble but there's only so much to do there. Battery life can be a pain if I forget to charge it. The pro controller is great on a charge though.
  21. I basically handed my son the Gamepad and he took care of the unlocks in Mario Maker. I wish there was just a setting. It was helpful for him to have his hand held (he's just about 4) and I didn't really mind it. It's a lot like having abilities and items slowly dolled out in a more traditional game but it did feel awfully forced and not necessary for many players.
  22. I ended up with an SD2SNES for Christmas. Quite happy with it ruling my SNES. More than worth the investment.
  23. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/12/25/psa-steam-is-having-security-issues-extent-as-yet-unclear.aspx Valve reported a caching issue. That reddit link also says caching issue. Embarrassing, yes. Hacked? No.
  24. I think anyone that loved Goldeneye on N64 immediately gives up the frame rate argument against any game.
  25. Really, even if the Saturn was a home run the 32x and Sega CD really damaged it. Just too much hardware too fast.
