I have 0 memory of the Sega Saturn even launching. I just recall it being on store shelves and then nowhere a bit later.

Hackers going at PSN and Xbox live again?
omegadot replied to cybercylon's topic in Modern Console Discussion
There's no doubt in my mind that <insert kids here> will try to DOS any major service they can to get attention. I would even abstract that a little to 'Kids will do whatever is popular to get attention'. I didn't notice any service interruptions on XBL, though, for what it's worth. Friends with PSN report similarly (I was curious earlier). -
You must evacuate your game room, What do you take?
omegadot replied to Hyperboy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
My handhelds. I'm not about to go rooting around with cables and what not in an emergency situation. -
I picked up some last minute things at Gamestop while my kids played at the park and they were running ads for this one still. As if you could buy it...

I've seen a number of developers that have no concept of security. I would guess their environment doubled as a museum of trendy worms and other malware.

My affinity for the Wii U is my only cause for regret. Not 100+ bones regret though. I'm on a similar path as you regarding this console.

I took the money I ended up not spending and bought Some GCN games I missed owning. Rogue Leader and Luigi's Mansion and then maybe some GBA game to finish the 60 USD allotment.

I've run: snes9x zsnes epsxe pcsx2 mupen64 From my understanding of the 7/8/10 line I'd be surprised if the move from 8 to 10 broke much.

So I was on my phone, I think it was the Japanese import version and I just didn't notice .

Oh hey, down to 77 shipped on the US Amazon. If it goes down to retail (60USD) I'll get it.

Welp, they caught it, mine got cancelled. Phooey.

Have You Ever Camped Out for a Console?
omegadot replied to bretthorror's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Man, it's about 6 years to recover from all the socialing. I think there's a significant difference in perspective, which is natural. I can't speak for the world at large, I've only really gone to two product launches and they were probably only around 2 hours a piece. I wasn't even excited for Halo 3, I didn't play Halo 2. But being around lots of people that were excited was fun. They all talked about the series and I like seeing people enjoy things. I've also stood a lot of Navy watches and if you think standing in line for a console is dull and feels pointless, hooo boy. Staring at a door for 8 hours hoping it doesn't open is much worse. -
Have You Ever Camped Out for a Console?
omegadot replied to bretthorror's topic in Classic Console Discussion
[redacted grumpiness]It's easy to not realize that the social aspects to the launches can be pretty fun if you've never been there. I sort of felt the same way before I went to a Halo 3 launch night. I was only there because I was hungry and Walmart was 24 hr. It ended up being lots of fun. I'll stand around for a few hours chatting about games with people. Days stretches my interest, but hours, sure. My time isn't too valuable to have fun. I mean, it clearly isn't, I'm posting on a video game forum. It's been 10 years now and the smallest toes on both feet go numb at the drop of a hat. I had no feeling in parts of my feet for nearly a week, I think. The thaw out process was quite uncomfortable. It was just all bad. I still have the toes, so that's good, but it's a common reminder that mother nature gives no fucks. -

I'm from buffalo, so I get windchill You're damn lucky at those temps. I was dumb in cold weather and did a fair amount of damage to my toes that bothers me years later. I've never camped out. I've gone to a few launches for halo purely from coincidence. I get excited but not enough to deal with all that. -
If I ever get my order I won't leave it sealed. I'll be giving it a fair chance.

Reading around it seems like it might not be good, but there is fun to be had. I've definitely enjoyed some games that are not good.

Eerie Sense of Urgency in the Collecting World?
omegadot replied to MotoRacer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
No doubt. Bad for me since its been a favorite since I bought one in 2000 but for life reasons it's my smallest collection after virtual boy. -
Rediscovering FF7 - From an Adult Perspective
omegadot replied to MotoRacer's topic in Modern Console Discussion
If the opposite of PC is crass, then I don't think FF7 falls into that category. There's space between 'differently abled' and '@#$^in' useless cripple'. While I occasionally put on some AxCx I'm not about to invest a large amount of time and effort into some empty experience layered in curse words and violence just for it's sake. In FF7 there's a little rough language but they fit with otherwise kind characters. The cross-dressing scene is something that's worth thinking about. It wasn't a simple one liner, it was a fully thought out arc. The above linked blog was interesting. I don't have any trans or cross dressing friends that I'm aware of. A few came out of the closet and I didn't much care. Reading another perspective on something I experienced via the game is pretty interesting and definitely part of auditing these scenes as an adult. -
My online order just went through...we shall see.

My wife's phone updated and the shape buttons are just a source of confusion for me. Google can't seem to nail down immediately useable.
