  1. I want to say it was a Pelican card?? It's been like 15 years now. I believe I lost a Rush 2 save among others. Mighta been Mad Catz.
  2. I find a lot of people aren't aware of Plok! which I really enjoyed playing growing up. I'm not sure it really counts as obscure, though.
  3. I had horrible luck with 3rd party cards. N64, Dreamcast, PSX all nuked saves. Admittedly I'm clearly a slow learner there.
  4. The thing about a back touch pad is I didn't find the ergonomics to at all support that nonsense and it's use just felt so arbitrary. I don't really like motion controls but the wiggles and waggles tend to map to something similar. The touch is just like a crappy button in a lot of cases. It was like 'well, L2 and R2 don't fit on the real thin form very well, pff, touch pad.' when it comes to use. I think Tearaway (never actually played it) used it in a sensible manner but my experience was not that.
  5. Won't make me popular but I never much cared for the original GB if I'm honest. I always had trouble focusing on the screen. I'm also a person that has a lot of trouble with 3D displays (my 3DS is never in that mode) so I'm not sure if my eyes are just not top notch or what. I find the form factor to be quite comfortable but playing was never easy for me. Toss as many good games at it as you want but I can't do it. Similar issues with GameGear but the colors helped a lot. Other than those two I've generally enjoyed any console I've played. Granted I've never played anything I'd consider obscure.
  6. It's not just the game systems but customer web-techy interfaces in general are pretty bad across the board if you want to search around for things. I have no idea why, I'd expect it to be a focus area when all we want is to easily find more crap to buy. I find Steam's interface to work pretty well. I don't recall it irritating me in the last few years, at least.
  7. Mine wasn't programmable but it did look very similar otherwise. I liked the larger size as even at a younger age I found the SNES pad to be a touch small.
  8. Wish I could recall the brand but growing up I had a clear plastic SNES controller with autofire that was a bit larger than the stock one and I really loved it. Unfortunately I got mad at Megaman X and I broke the thing. Oddly enough I have more nostalgia about that than the stock one.
  9. If it were down to 3 I'd keep my Dreamcast, N64, and Wii U. I can't really emulated them well at all and the controllers are interesting and other than the Dreamcast, unique. If the Wii U / XBone don't count as they are more just my current consoles vice part of the collection I'd keep the GCN in it's stead. I own: NES, SNES, Virtual Boy, N64, GCN, Wii, Wii U, Genesis, Dreamcast, PS2, PS3, XBone, Vita, Grey Brick GB, 3DS, GBA.
  10. I really like my Vita and it's been great when I travel but in most cases I can see an issue with 'i'd rather play this on a ps3/4'. The DS line has a lot of specific experiences that make sense on the platform but not a dedicated console and that compounds with it marketing to a demographic that isn't driving cars or working all day. But it has plenty of JRPG content for me to be...content.
  11. N64, Genesis or SNES flashcart. Wife ordered today with then on sale. Not sure which.
  12. Hm, I keep a lean collection relative to many here. If I HAD to, the Wii. I have a Wii U and GCN still. If that's considered cheating, then... I guess SNES. It's one of my favorites but the cost of the best games and the fact that its library is easily emulated / heavily ported makes it mostly a nostalgia thing which is overcome by reality.
  13. Best Buy still has Wireless controllers for 40 bucks. Amazon did over the weekend but I missed it. Needed a third for Knight Squad which has taken over our evenings.
  14. Or just make it a splash screen / skippable video. Today I absent mindedly hit 'c'mon' and caused my teammate to jump back to base, losing us the game by a fraction of coverage. I was ashamed.
  15. The pattern of releasing an updated console like a year before the next iteration has yet to be met so I'm still expecting that.
  16. I finally circled back to it as a daily play. It's probably my favorite online 'shooter' since Counter-Strike. I found CS to be less a focus on shooting and more on position and strategy and economics of the buy system. That's even more a case for Splatoon. The dynamic of different kits + paint + paths + skill is just outstanding. The fact that it's wildly appropriate for basically anyone walking by is a bonus. Now if they'd cut the need to watch the irritating video every time, that'd be greeeaaaaatttt.
  17. I finally got around to playing the Mega Man game after getting one of the archive.org packs and it does a pretty good job of scratching the itch. Thanks again for the suggestion.
  18. I'm not sure I think SD cards would happen but it would support a merged ecosystem I suppose.
  19. I think my most expensive one was 40 USD with 3 controllers. The sports edition runs a bit more.
  20. I'm quite interested in these solutions but it seems like ordering is tricky.
  21. I use Wah!cade these days but I rather liked Maximus for it's relative ease of use with some prettiness still intact. Got am email with this deal, figured I'd pass it along. It's a gnarly looking link, I'm sure rife with some email tracking infos. http://www.maximus-arcade.com/products/maximus-arcade-software-registration-code?utm_campaign=Black+Friday+2015&utm_source=hs_email&utm_medium=email&utm_content=24115796&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-9Jpdes7OHT-kE2ThTi1MyaUmu-UitRwCwn30sv3hVGNSnhGntYKVhWJ7sTLIGLHpYHeBUjlCy-aEPr5_EXP_Aa2WADpw&_hsmi=24115796
  22. I've been looking into the DC-SD deals too. I have two Dreamcasts and one seems to have a lot of trouble reading discs for very long. Oh my, that Dreamcast USB is expensive, though.
  23. The Coop sale wants all of my money. This is exactly what my wife and I crave.
  24. For me the Wii U stands apart, I'm not even sure why. When I typed that up I didn't think about it. It's probably one of my favorite consoles period. It also may be the last thing worth collecting on.
