I know Chrono Trigger saw updated FMVs in the Vita/PSX/DS versions. Final Fantasy 3 at least saw a 3d treatment on the DS. I rather liked the old style graphics so I was never quite sold on it. EDIT:I see 4 did too, I think I played about 10 minutes of that.

"You know what everyone loves in multiplayer? Inexperienced teammates that don't speak your language and don't care to win. Why don't we add that to single player!" -WAY TOO MANY DESIGNERS.

As far as the getting older, I find that I just don't care as much as I did when I was younger. At least, I care about a lot of other things more and it's harder to 'put my all into it'. When I'm focused on just the game every once in a while I find my skill is considerably greater but it's a rare mindset for me to be in. With SNES I've been impressed that I haven't actually had a failed battery yet. (I hope they aren't listening to this and in a contrary mood)

Looking at X/X-2 for Vita is 8 bucks shipping making it about as much as a next day shipped copy from Amazon. Deus Ex for Wii U is considerably more than Amazon for the sale. The non-greatest hits Chrono Cross is neat.

If they could put out a setup that streamed from my PC to my TV as well as the Wii U streams to the Gamepad I would be very interested. So far the over network streaming has been and intermittent success for me. A dedicated Steam box powerful enough to play recent games isn't something many of us are excited to buy and toss into the entertainment center it seems.

Sorry, reffering to the above not trusting the talk about a lot of backwards compatibility. I'm agreeing with you that it's probably something that will get a lot of support. I'm just pointing out that I think beyond anything else, the allure of people possibly buying years old games would be a pretty attractive deal. Especially on games that aren't so old the rights are hard to work out.

If it's easy enough I'd think getting more money for old stuff would be guaranteed whether we wanted it or not.

I guess mine just updated today. I'll give it some time but so far I'm not a bigger fan of this one than the last. I do hope it ends up being a bit more stable for me, though.

I've mostly ignored the media leading up to release so I didn't realize there were team AI aspects that mattered. I pretty much always hate that mechanic. I very uh, fondly, recall blasting through a level in Gears of War only to realize my AI team got stuck in at the spawn. I'm not picking it up yet to due just time constraints but that makes me feel alright about it.

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: KRYNN SERIES now on GOG
omegadot replied to JamesD's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Oh wow, those games basically ushered me into PC gaming. I also loved the books growing up, incidentally. -
How has this not been posted yet? Retro VGS
omegadot replied to racerx's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I think I'd feel less bad about those crate things if they games weren't 'random awesome games'. -
The PS4 we have a work is used exclusively for pick up games between co-workers so I know that's a perfectly supportable style on that platform. While I find the process of buying and installing games on modern consoles to be annoying (and love that my Wii U doesn't need it) it's not an evil pit of sorrow enveloping all our game time. I've been impressed with the PS4 experience as compared to the Xbox One, but I do play a number of the MS exclusives. If my Xbox One broke I don't think I'd replace it, for what that's worth. I like it once, probably not twice.

It's been a long time since I've needed to be any more involved in updating my games for PC than my consoles. Steam or Origin just do it if they are running, which one usually is if my PC is on. I don't recall the last time I needed to actually tweak games more than I wanted to at this point. Things like sensitivity aside as that's a case in the console as well. I think I've had more system / UI instability in my XBone than my PC, so maybe that's a vote in the original incarnation of this thread as a PS4 or XBone decision. My XBone has had issues with my controller not recognizing in Netflix, sometimes the home 'burger' button causes the UI context to seemingly switch to the home menu (I can hear it booping when I move the stick around) but the home menu isn't actually displayed, the game or app still is. For a while I had issues with games launching and just closing. Updates are as frequent as they ever have been lately. I do dig the controllers, though. My PC v console issue is that if it's on my TV I want to use a controller lounge back but the optimal interface is still usually mouse / keys (especially in FPS) so I am either a little irritated or feel like I'm at a disadvantage. But that's just me. I've certainly never had a midrange card last 7 years and still be able to even play new games at any sort of reasonable framerate. It depends on what you want to play, but after 3-4 years you are probably pretty limited if you enter at the midrange. I'm also not a 'super hi-res across 3 monitors' kind of guy. It's been a long, long time since consoles were as simple as the NES or since PCs have been DOS boxes with lots of exposed frustration and tears.

Games You've Finished Without Continues
omegadot replied to BillyHW's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hm, I don't think any. I've never had the focus for games where it was feasible. I think I've cleared a few RPGs without dying but that's a much different deal. -
That's pretty exciting. It's nice to see enthusiasts carrying on these wonderful old systems.

Legend of Zelda NES Game Over screens.
omegadot replied to Nutsy Doodleheimer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I think the GCN collection also has the one on the right. -
I've hooked up my box with steam in big picture mode a few times with high hopes and a lot of games had undesirable controller support and I had to get up a number of times to handle various direct x type pop-ups and stuff. It was neat and I left it for a while but it was definitely not less of a hassle than PC gaming as it is. There were also far fewer couch coop options.

What's the latest games you've played on your Wii U?
omegadot replied to Ransom's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
I got Yoshi's Wooly World in the mail from Amazon today. I picked up the Amiibo bundle since it was available and not expensive. The Amiibo is pretty neat. It's like a little stuffed toy with the chip thing on his bottom. I really like it and my son is in love with the thing. If you use the Amiibo during the game you get a second Yoshi similar to the clone characters in 3D world. It's neat. If you touch another Amiibo, or at least Mario, your Yoshie is turned into a Yoshi of that character's style. The game is a joy to play. The first three levels aren't at all difficult to get through but the exploration from at least Mario World 2 is back. I love the laid back approach and the visuals are brilliant to me. I'm of a mind that really enjoys the arts and crafts style a lot. I the latest Kirby fell flat to me because it forced me to look at the Gamepad screen which is much more dull than my TV and I found that distasteful but this game doesn't require any touch elements and can be played with any of the zilion pads. I'm excited to give co-op a go later on. There is also an easy mode where Yoshi can fly. It seems good for the little ones so far. I can't imagine wanting to use it other than seeing how it works. This mode also lets you bypass levels. All in all the game isn't at all meant to be a major challenge, just a fun romp, it seems. -
My favorite underrated game for Sega Genesis...

Kid Chameleon is a real classic with very few modern analogues. I guess sorta Kirby in the different powers vein but that's it. -
PS1 Beginners BUYING GUIDE & Best Games
omegadot replied to Metal Jesus's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I feel bad but the only games I have on my Vita are PSX JRPGs and Cool Boarders 3. It's the best place to play them with the standby lasting so damn long on that system. It's a really great handheld (other than the expensive proprietary storage media, wtf!) and I wish it saw more attention. I feel like half the games on the PSN for it are anime games that I can hardly parse the title for. To some of the above, I feel any list with FF7 should have 9 on it as well. I'm replaying it and it's just such a well executed FF in my opinion. And compared to the story in FF7 the plot isn't a giant bucket of 'what the hell?'. I loved FF7 and only recently actually beat Sephiroth after a save corruption years ago that left me burned, but to me 9 really deserves some credit. -
The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

That's a pretty cool deal, MaximRecoil. I still have yet to add an Atari anything back to my collection this go 'round. I'm such a poser here.
