Does anyone here still trade/borrow classic games?
omegadot replied to Atari the Jedi's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I've borrowed / loaned games up until recently. Mostly with newer stuff as older stuff I can just emulate if I'm curious. As far as trades goes, that goes on all the time via forums but I don't know enough collectors to trade myself. I probably would though. -
What's the latest games you've played on your Wii U?
omegadot replied to Ransom's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Just picked up Splatoon today after work. Excited to try this one later with my wife. -
I have a mix myself. I like having the original available but emulation offers flexibility and requires 0 other monetary investment so why not.

Still enjoy Smash and Mario Kart after the kids go to bed. Excited for Splatoon and debating Hyrule Warriors. My wife and I have usually enjoyed hack n slash / beatem up games in the past quite a lot. -
That seems usual for GOG. I hope it's a poor rollout and not something that is the new norm. I have no need at all for another DRM clad sclient

Well, I've started to build up a fair stash now xD
omegadot replied to The Usotsuki's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Well SF2, if you have a fellow person to play with, is probably going to see enough play time (I'd guess) to warrant the cost of a current good quality indy title. Skulljagger is one of the first games I played on an SNES and I might pick it up for that reason, but I won't pay a lot since it's not a great game and I doubt I'd play it a lot. A few bucks at most. Super Mario All-Stars I had no issue paying a little more for since I actually enjoy all those games a lot and will spend time with it beyond a blue moon nostalgia dose. -

And it begins again...' If you figure out how to get people to give you entire collections, clue me in please. -
So Pacman turned 35 today...

Oh I'd be described as bad at both so I like the one I read as slightly sillier (Ms.). -
Who's given up on thrift finds (classic games)?
omegadot replied to video game addict's topic in Classic Console Discussion
For the first few revisions of the plain grey PSX I thought the failure rate was also quite high. I had a working one for years but I recall a lot of friends having to tip it on it's side and eventually it just failed. Granted it's probably just an every-day cdrom that can be replaced more easily than magic-fu to fix the later systems. No idea on the PSOne. Given that these things go for like 10 bucks it's probably a worthy exploit. -

I prefer Ms. Pac-Man myself. -

Eh, with the PS3 and PS2 playing PSX games I couldn't see myself actually caring that much to own the PSX. I admit I have a fond memory of the disc load sound + intro sound but since Sony has had basically the same controller since the PSX and the following consoles play the discs I'm not sure how sought after it would ever be. -

I go to the one right by work on lunch a few times a week. Picked up a Dreamcast the other day for not a great price, but it does work great. I needed a new one as mine was having issues reading discs and I'm too lazy to replace the battery on an already iffy console. But for older stuff? I did see some 2600 carts all at double ebay prices so that wasn't the day I joined the cool kids. -
If you were Nintendo, what would you do?
omegadot replied to TPA5's topic in Modern Console Discussion
As far as value goes, the fact that when I buy a physical game on the Wii U it works and I can play it as-is on a system that has been entirely stable since we bought it for Xmas right after launch is important to me. I like the reward programs on the Xbox One because I've so far paid full price for exactly one game. What I dislike is that system has been irritating and I feel like I'm renting the games. I often bounce around and take a long time to beat games (like years sometimes) so losing service and hassles of installation sometimes just prevent me from gaming at this point. I think it's fine at 300 USD but since Nintendo is missing some key genres for a lot of people it would probably need a drop to really catch on as the 'it's for my kid's' system. I'd love to see more games for the 'mature' (wants to kill stuff) crowd since offscreen play would just be a delight. I love this for CoD when I'm sort of jonesing to play a shooter and the kiddies are up. Removing the need for the gamepad to use the store and other features went a long way to winning my heart back after some initial frustration over the interface / battery life on the pad. -
Never thought I would but just ordered an Xbone
omegadot replied to Tickled_Pink's topic in Microsoft Xbox One
I'm only partway through each of the campaigns but post a billion patches I haven't noticed anything going wrong bug wise. The Xbox One itself I still find to be a mess, but most of the games I have, MCC included, work pretty well. Assuming control input works and the game launches. -
My nes keeps blinking with new 72 pin
omegadot replied to The007Squirtle's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I wish I'd known about the cardboard method of cleaning years ago. I got a Genesis 2 recently and it worked alright but it was a little finicky about being touched and I had to seat games a few times. I just spent some time with a piece of cardboard and the stack of carts I had and bam, it's solid now. Got lots of gray stuff off. I even wiggled the system a bit to see while playing Sonic and no troubles.. -
I didn't get to play, mostly because my HD is about full, but I did read about the rollers in a few places. There are plenty of examples in the shooter world of a class / weapon combo being clearly over powered but still being defeated by skilled players. Rocket launchers and sniper rifles off the top of my head have been at issue since at least the Quake 2 days that I've personally experienced. I actually like when things aren't all even, it makes it more interesting over a longer period of time. I'm still pretty jazzed about this release. Seems like it's been pretty well accepted as a good game already.

My nes keeps blinking with new 72 pin
omegadot replied to The007Squirtle's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hm, I had great luck just removing the thing and pushing the pins back out. The NES that currently sits on my shelf has some third party 72 pin adaptor (from the store) that seems to be good still after a year of admittedly light use. -
I don't play it the most, but my Dreamcast is my favorite. It's starting to become pretty cliche to dote on the Dreamcast, I think, but it was the first new console I was able to buy for myself. It was primarily where I was introduced to online gaming through Quake 3, PSO, and Alien Front: Online. It gave me my first tastes of homebrew. I loved the arcade games on it, the fact that the modem was packed in and it had 4 ports for great Power Stone matches. I still think the look of it all is pretty cool and was a demarcation point between consoles looking fun and looking like ultra modern VCRs. I really just enjoyed everything about it's launch, marketing and actually owning the thing. I had one of the best Christmases ever with it and my cousin. He had Quake 3, which I'd only ever played on PC a few times at a friends house, and we dug in and did pretty much nothing else.

ROOM OF DOOM video featuring Brett Weiss
omegadot replied to NowThereAreNoLimits's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Pretty neat. I've read a few VG history books, mostly on the late 80s through mid to late 90s but I was unaware of his books. I liked the video quite a lot. -
Sonic Classics 3 in 1 a good buy?
omegadot replied to thetallguy24's topic in Classic Console Discussion
http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=25863 There they do state that there at least some changes, if that is what you are referring to. Sounds like it's the ROMs with a hacked menu and some other fixes so I'd guess same performance? -
Aaaand this post kicked off a yearning that ended with... http://www.ebay.com/itm/141661305409 That heading to my house.

Ah yes, the overuse of the word rape. I remember being maybe 14 and a super cool internet user. I used the word rape once around my mother talking about a game. I actually didn't curse around my parents, I think it was some stupid test the waters moment. I'm glad she didn't have anything sharp on her. I think I'd have been in 15 pieces buried around the yard. From then on I knew the line, it was well behind me and I ran back to it with a quickness. Naturally a number of years later I look at that moment (and many others while growing up) with a disappointed sigh at myself. Offensive references aside, I think most of the time all I want out of people that I'm not close friends with is to fulfill some objective. Why am I only seeing one way traffic on this device, my car is doing this when I accelerate, etc. If like 40% of what you are saying back to me is just extra curse words or hard to navigate slang I'm just going to go elsewhere. I don't know you, I only know what you are saying to me right now. If a lot of the content is useless to me that doesn't breed confidence in the rest of your content.
