  1. Totally agree. I also really loved Ni No Kuni on PS3 for the art style. I think we've gotten back a style that was lost somewhere in rush to 3D. Brownochromatic seemed the only option for a long time.
  2. I played 2 or 3 rounds on the campaign list and was really impressed. I never feel like I'm aiming with the thumbsticks in Halo or BF4. Just nudging the gun and hoping. I actually felt like I had some say in my bullets. Just like on PC I'm still thrilled that you can actually survive on foot. Unlike many of the BF games over the years.
  3. Concern that people won't think I'm the wonderful and amazing parent a clearly am? Nah. Concerned when my kid acts like a shit head to someone? Yes. A little more on topic, the gaming scenes in general have a pretty awkward relationship with profanity. It's just ... blegh so much of the time. There's a rhythm to speech that is not respected when someone just says fuck or whatever over and over. If my son is going to learn curse words, I'd rather he not learn them from someone screeching out every swear word he knows. AVGN I don't mind because there's often an interesting progression to the videos. I could do without the awkward swearing character, but eh, I like the other aspects of it enough to deal. For the tubers that don't even offer that and still have all the swearing? Stay far far away.
  4. Really depends on the situation. I don't care much about my son hearing cursing or seeing a boob now and then (up until a year and a half ago he ate from them) but sometimes I want to avoid it because he gets in moods where anything that goes in comes out. Like the first Turtles movie, for example. Does the word damn or freak hurt him? Nope, and he will hear them a lot in his life. But! he's going to run around at the play center saying that to other kids and they aren't smart enough to deal with context. He thinks he's being raph, but that's not going to come through his rendition. I love that movie and I do watch it with him, but sometimes you want to keep it clear too.
  5. Sweet deal, I always loved the big ol' Genesis paddle. Right now I lack one so I just play emulated. I was playing Road Rash 2 last night. Still have a soft spot for those games.
  6. Just got it in the mail and installed. Wasn't a bad experience compared to Halo. I ran through the tutorial briefly as my kids are running around and I'm not big on shooting squishies around them. I was impressed at the controls immediately.
  7. Wife and I loved to play the game. Reminded me a bit of Monday Night Combat, so I took to it pretty easily. There are a few of those DotA style shooters around and I usually enjoy them. My issue is that we had a lot of problems with saves not really loading everything we'd unlocked / bought with the in game currency. We also had hell getting a game some nights. The mandatory online connection to play offline is absurd. It was like they made this rather tight game and then just thought, eh, good enough. That last mile would have clinched it as a great game for me. I played it as part of the EA Access thing. I wouldn't buy it outright after experiencing the issues we did. Which is sad, it's got some great stuff in it.
  8. So I haven't played it in like 8+ years. I got it when it launched, LOVED it, then I haven't played it again since. The reason for that is I seem to remember the boss battles taking a very long time and I'm not sure how far I could get. I may have sucked, though. I was debating making a go at it again but I'm in a bad habit lately of starting up JRPGs. oh my, I just googled it's launch date. It HAS been a while.
  9. While paying full price for a game that may or may not have any support in a year doesn't usually work out for me, I have no issue with MP only. I just have trouble getting enough time in these days where 50 bones is worth getting trounced by kids online an hour a week or so until servers clear out or get shut down. I loved Quake III. Played lots of the CS series, had hundreds of hours of fun in Wolfenstein: Enemy-Territory. That was all mostly in LAN play, which doesn't work out as well as an adult with kids in an apartment :-/. Looking forward to checking this one out on the XBone. Sounds like it's handled well. I know it reviewed quite well but I just didn't want to bite at full price.
  10. Interesting, I've never seen that done. I have noticed that the tempo in some of my n64 emulation seems off but I never sought to quantify it that way.
  11. I fell off the wagon around the same place. I played Grandia 2 before FFX, so the fact that there were random battles was just something that really irked me at the time. I've had thoughts of doing the same run through, although I'm still on disc one in FFVIII after like 4 months so we'll see on that one. I'm actually enjoying it more this time. The draw system after the materia system was just jarring for me and some of the repetitive areas were too frustrating.
  12. Oh yeah, the atmosphere in the game is just grand. I'm nervous to see how it goes with a controller vice my trusty mouse and keys but I'll find out Wednesday, I think.
  13. I know the Chrono Trigger in the store for PS3 is terrible. I have it and I'll never launch it again. The lag before menu was obscene and loading between areas was terrible. And like, there are a few uses of the menu in a JRPG. I was incredibly disappointed. Not sure how the FF games that had the same treatment fair. I'm also not sure how the PSX disc version fairs on a PS3, but I'd be hesitant to get the Playstation Store version on a PS3.
  14. I went ahead and ordered Titanfall. I had picked it up on PC for a similar price a while back and I just don't play on there as much as I used to. I loved the game, though.
  15. Online has free shipping on it right now as well. EDIT: The free was for in store pickup...grumble.
  16. So that's why the blue indicator was blinking. Well my weekend is booked now.
  17. I did it. I'll use it for a few months and then drop it. I find it very convenient and while I enjoy BF4 I don't play it enough to care that I lack the new maps or whatever. I would never buy a Madden but for 4 bucks a month I'll mess around with it a bit. For a casual consumer of their games it's a good deal for EA and me. The vault does not really see a lot of updates but they claim games won't be pulled out of it. I think it's worth it if you are pretty casual about the titles they offer.
  18. I'm positive it's my age group (I'm 29) or slightly younger. We've gotten decent jobs in the last few years, have young kids, and crave our gaming youth.
  19. This is why I'm so glad I didn't give away most of my GCN collection.
  20. I hate seeing that guys page. Just so much sexy in one place.
  21. By measurement of how many current games I can play reasonably well for the money I think stuff is a lot cheaper now that it used to be. There seems to be a much larger variety on the high end, but I'd say the mid range and lower end hardware is much more capable than it used to be. But yeah if you are shooting for the high end it's just so much more expensive than a 350USD box I plug into my TV and go.
  22. I don't remember what it was called but 15 or so years ago my buddy downloaded some 1000 game archive off some newsgroup. We stayed up all night playing them. Some were pretty fun sports games, but one was a game where you just tried to have anal sex with the other character. Sort of like a really erotic flag football. I'm not willing to google to find that since I'm currently watching paw patrol with my son. I guess that's not really that weird in the face of like Katamari Damacy. Sex is actually a thing, after all.
  23. http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Bluetooth-Telescopic-Controller-IP117/dp/B00MUG3JPU I picked up one of these to stick my ageing transformer in once I realized I didn't really want one of the JXD etc type handhelds when I already had so many damn Android devices floating around. I wasn't really sure how it'd turn out but so far it's pretty darn handy. So far I'm played (and enjoyed!) Super Mario RPG, Super Metroid, Earthbound, Goldeneye and Snowboard Kids. The construction seems pretty sturdy, it grips the tablet itself quite well. I was nervous how it would be to stick a 10" tablet in and it works well. The angle is a little off, it would be nice if it was angled back a bit further, but it's not really uncomfortable. I'm guessing with a smaller device it would matter less. So far I've just kept it in landscape mode and it's snug. The hook that holds it up on bottom is off to the left a bit so my charging port is left uncovered. The buttons respond well enough and while they aren't state of the art they are better than other 3rd party types I've used. The mapping is a bit odd. There are 3 modes it can be put in, the iCade, a keyboard, and a gamepad. So far I think keyboard detected the best in the n64 emulation. iCade works well in snes but the mapping is off by default. It's selectable with easy key presses so it's not too bad to change on the fly. I run one of the latest CM builds and the bluetooth paired without a hassle. Charging is via the same USB standard as all my phones use, it's one of the smaller standards, I forget which one. No cable included but no tears about that from me. It claims a 20 hour battery life, but in any case it's way more than my tablet itself will play games. I'm sure the manufacturing is about as consistent as any of these other devices but mines seems just fine. Really enjoying my new mobile emulation. Little girl can't grab all my cables...grumble grumble....
